Blackberry Storm to hit Best Buy November 23rd

We just want to warn all you Sunday newspaper readers out there: Don’t be alarmed when you flip to the Best Buy ad and see the Storm front and center on the Best Buy Mobile page for this Sunday. Yup, there it is in all its glory, supposedly available for sale today. It is even listed with a free Plantronics 360 bluetooth headset. Don’t go running down to Best Buy just yet though. It wont be there as these fliers were printed before the latest delay that pushed the Storm launch to November 23rd for Best Buy. A small disclaimer on its website confirms the new release date. So anyone who doesn’t want to brave the crowds at Verizon stores on release day can head on down to your local Best Buy one week from today and score yourself a Storm. Start robbing those piggy banks though, as the Storm without a contract as purchased from Best Buy will set you back a cool $599. Hit the jump to see the full Best Buy advertisement in this Sunday’s flier and the pricing page.

[Thanks, Brian!]

@ paul the icrap loving bunghole

Ok bunghole why would an apple lover like you have a lousy 3g vzw blackberry(which one by the way?) considering that I think you are a liar I have a VERY hard time believing that in a “metro” area on the east coast so close to NYC you would have a hard time getting a good signal. where exactly are you? And does your home have walls made from concrete that are 10 feet thick? I am in a place called Trenary Michigan. Look it up you obviously diluted massively biased bunghole and then tell me how lousy VZW’s 3G is. Now you mention choice and mentioned the free wifi spots you frequent with your Icrap. Ya know what bunghole I can choose to buy an extra battery for my pearl and Storm hell I can buy ten batteries for my BB so that I never have to worry about my BB cutting out on me. How does it feel in Mcdonalds when after LEACHING off of their Wifi and your Icrap dies on you? FACT Wifi eats batteries! How will it feel when your Icraps battery fails? Golly gee bunghole you will have to send your beloved TOY in for a new frigin battery. Oh yea I can also chose to pick up more memory granted I can only have 17 gigs on my Storm(1 onboard and 16 on a card) at any given time but I can pick up a million cards so that’s what 17 million gigs I could have on my Storm. If anyone needs more than 17 gigs on their smartphone at any given time then they need help. So don’t blow smoke up my ass an tell me about choices. I choose a network that provides me with coverage in a place that might as well be the northpole. Enjoy your Icrap bunghole see you at Mcdonalds.

P.S. Honestly look up Trenary its in the middle of frikin nowhere. But don’t fret bunghole there is a Mcdonalds about 50 miles from here.

OK, so I will reply one last time and then leave it with what you may say.

So, I see you are saying that there are no apps available for the Storm. I consider that understandable seeing as the storm has not been RELEASED yet. I wouldn’t expect to be able to get an app for a product that hasn’t been released.

I admit WiFi is not a deal breaker for me… and considering im a business man, I’ll stick to playing games on my X-box 360 and PS3… I have a phone to be a well rounded multi-meadia powerhouse that works with me… not a toy.

Choice is a priority for me. I chose the best product that will meet my needs. I don’t try to FORCE my opinion of products on others.

Once again, when the iPhone first launched, the App Store didn’t exist, so there were no apps for it either. I’ll wait for the launch and then the BB Storefront or whatever it is called to come out to start compairing that.

I have tried the iPhone, It’s a decent piece of work…. but it doesn’t do what I need it to do. You get that… what “I” need it to do. That is WORK.

What happens when I go on a business trip and need to use my cell for hours on end? Do you thing my clients are going to wait for me to get back to the hotel so I can charge the phone. No, when I’m dealing with multi-billion dollar contracts, I need to talk to people. The Storm has the OPTION to change batteries AND change data ON THE FLY. We don’t really know if the multi-touch of the storm matches the iphone do we? I mean… considering the storm hasn’t been released!

I hope the iPhone does get a legal version of the ‘cut-copy-paste’ utility… more choices and more advances in technology benefit us ALL. I’m not out to put down the iPhone, I was just informing you that you have your facts a little off.

Stop drinking the iPunch. If you have nothing nice to say…. TAKE IT TO THE APPLE FORUMS.

@ Garrett: No, it’s not until the 23rd. I work in Best Buy Mobile, and we’ve been made aware of the issue with the weekly ad, as well as the update on the web site. Anyone calling in today or until the date it is actually released is being told the same thing, that it has been delayed until the 23rd.

^ After 10 years of development, where is the ‘X = Close App’ function in Windows Mobile? Give it a rest about the iPhone lacking a function already. Is that what really pups your tent, for god’s sake? You’ve obviously got your own homebrewed koolade just to throw stones from your glass house. It’s a pretty level playing field so _all_ major mobile OS’s are going to have healthy suppport regardless of your desire for monopolistic trends.

    @ directvrep:

Sure there are many useless stupid apps in the App Store, but let’s NOT forget there are well over 8,600 apps with MANY MANY VERY USEFUL APPS. Again choice is a good thing.

Having no WiFi is a deal killer for many users. No surprise that the Storm has none as VZW offers NO BB and few other devices with WiFi. So we are more in agreement than you said.

I stated the Storm was crippled as it had NO WIFI, it doesn’t and YOU even agree. Hooray.

I also said it had NO apps or games. Again I stated the TRUTH. The BB Storm has none, period. The measly, 700 apps for the BB are not designed for the Storm as it runs a different OS (4.7 I suspect) and has a different touch UI. So where is any of the so-called BULL in what I said? I am quite sure apps will arrive, but when and how many is a big question mark.

This is what goes happens on this blog all the time. I will copy what I said in the first post here:

“Fantastic price for a crippled device with NO WiFi, NO multi-touch, NO games, NO apps, I am driving right over to wait of the line!!!

    Let’s rejoice!”

I stand by this completely. Again we can analysis than you can attack the facts with gusto!

Price for unlocked phone stated here is ridiculously high. If you do not agree you must have lots of very disposable income in a down economy.

No WiFi – Storm has NO WIFI

No multi-touch – Storm UI is in no way the same as the iPhone and does not have the same multi-touch gestures as iPhone has.

No games – Storm has NO games right now (BB apps are NOT for Storm and with NO WiFi gaming will be more limited to single player as opposed to WiFi where multiplayer over WiFi is commonplace.

No apps – Storm has no apps right now as the small amount of apps for BB (RIM claimed 700) are not for Storm.

After years in the marketplace RIM has only 700 apps. iPhone has 8,600 in 4 months! So knock the App Store if you like, but Apple has sold over 200,000 downloads (reported a month ago) and the apps tend to be better and cheaper than the BB ones. Since I own both I can tell you this.

So what BULL, did I report? NONE. People just like to KILL the messenger here. Sorry to rain on your parade.

Oh yeah, speaking of parades I also said I was driving over to wait online. I really am not, so this was sarcasm. I expect NO lines anywhere like there were for iPhone! Have you heard, Apple sold 12 million in 2008 alone and beat RIM in unit sales?

FACTS many times ruin good stories, sorry I only stated the facts and was not so interested in the story.

    Paul says:

    @ valace2:

In your extensive research on wireless, I guess you missed the fact that there are dead spots galore, even in good areas. In many buildings like college campus, business offices, and yes even in homes.

But I think you totally missed the point for such a smart guy. NOT having WiFi means no use of VoIP or joining a local network for file sharing, multi-player gaming and slower downloads. You are so busy attacking the messenger all logic is lost on a have-wit like you.

I am not an iPhone or any other lover. I own several devices on AT&T and VZW, I just stated the facts more than once on a device RIM and VZW prays will compete with the iPhone that just beat RIM in unit sales and took over one million customers away after being in the market place only 15 months!

Battery life has been no problem on the iPhone since the 2.1 update. Many many battery extenders are available that simple plug into the dock of the iPhone that more than double battery life which is actually easier than having to take out the battery for replacement. I own one a rarely use it.

If 3G is so good, why don’t you just get a 3G modem for you network in your home and get rid of your broadband provider? 3G is not everywhere and never as fast as most all WiFi connections. When traveling using a free hotspot for VoIP and data is convenient and FREE. No international rates.

Now lets see if we can all get some rest by having you shut your vile bungholed mouth since you have nothing worth saying that even resembles a fact.

    @ directvrep:

I did not force anything on anyone, YOU attacked me with YOUR opinion. I just stated a few facts I guess you did not like or may have been unaware of.

Battery life? Well you do the same exact thing you do with your BB you use another battery. There are many batteries for iPhone as I explain to the moron above. With the iPhone you can add the battery in the middle of a call or a download, no stopping to change a battery.

Since the Storm is RIM trying to copy the iPhone, I think you can see BB users have already benefited from the iPhone, that some here like to attack.

    @ backbeat:

where is the ‘X = Close App’ function to shut you up as you said nothing worthwhile and we where not even talking about Windows Mobile? Is this your lame attempt to pile on the messenger? Moron!

    MadMike says:

While the lack of WiFi on the storm is disconcerting. The usefulness of WiFi on such a platform is limited, mostly due to battery life. My iPhone’s battery life just plain SUCKS with WiFi on. My BlackBerry Bold gets much better battery life with WiFi on, but it has a problem with WPA2-PSK AES security – about 1 in 5 fails to connect.

The Storm is VZW’s & RIM’s take on the iPhone. The biggest feature that will determine the devices salt will be the clicking screen.

If that works well, the device will be a winner. VZW’s network is about as fast as what the iPhone can do max with AT&T’s 3G – even though AT&T’s 3G is supposedly faster.

How does the resolution on the Storm compare to the Bold? Because the Bold’s screen BLOWS away the iPhone in EVERY respect. It has a BEAUTIFUL screen.

The BB Bold screen blows away the iPhone? WiFi is limited on platform? You must be nuts. I guess I should not question YOUR opinion, but all I can say is REALLY NOW? HAHAHA

The vibrating screen should be a real boom to the usefulness? HAHAHA Wow, all the users will never miss WiFi, the thousands of apps and multi-player games or even the iPod because the screen vibrates on the Storm! I do sense a Storm… HAHAHA

Great insight MadGuy! You might want to re-visit all this when the iPhone trounces that Storm, the very device RIM is copying.

    Vic says:

    @Paul

Why do you speak as if the majority are going to miss WiFi? I doubt the majority of people with WiFi-capable handsets even bother with it. For a select minority, such as yourself it’s probably a huge deal, but for the rest of us…not so much.

I will admit that I used WiFi a decent amount when I had the iPhone, but that was primarily due to AT&T’s shitty network in my area. Nearly everyone I know that has an iPhone does not bother with WiFi, even when they are dropped into EDGE or no service. They either aren’t familiar enough with it, aren’t/don’t want to pay for a subscription, or just don’t care. Heck, since I moved to Sprint and grabbed the Touch Diamond (which is WiFi capable), I never used it once. With phones, speeds over 3G and WiFi are going to yield a similar web browsing experience due to the bottlenecks created by the processor and memory limitations. Downloads will be faster, but for the size of most apps/media downloaded to a phone, it really isn’t that noticeable.

Knowing Verizon has just as good of a network as Sprint in my area, EVDO will be more than enough. I seriously doubt web browsing will be faster on WiFi than EVDO; hell, BB browser isn’t all that fast to begin with (Browsing on EDGE yields the same experience as browsing over WiFi from what I’ve experience in the past). I, and the majority of iPhone/Smartphone users, aren’t interested in VoIP (hell, you can’t even do it on the iPhone unless you Jailbreak it…which is also only done by the minority).

Even though the minority won’t care about the WiFi crippling, and to less of an extent, lack of games on the Storm, people will still choose the iPhone over the Storm. The Storm will never sell as much, or reach out as much, as the iPhone because the iPhone has secured its spot as a status symbol amongst the US crowd, similar to the Razr, and it won’t lose that status for some time.

    @Paul: Are you on drugs?

I have both a Blackberry Bold and an iPhone 3G. The Bold’s screen is clearly better.

Where in the world do you get vibrating screen? The Storm’s screen clicks. Nowhere does it mention any sort of haptic vibration.

And Yes, WiFi usefulness is limited at best, compared to a netbook or full-blown laptop. Even though the iPhone’s web browser is great, it still doesn’t beat FireFox on a full screen. When I am away from home, I normally have the WiFi turned off to improve the battery life.

Also, I’m not really mad at anyone, except Andy Reid – I am VERY angry at him. “Mad Mike” was just a nickname I got in the Marines and it sort of stuck.

    Paul says:

    @ Vic:

I do not speak for anyone but myself! Never said I did. I is not me that is pitting the Storm against iPhone – RIM and VZW is doing that. So comparisons are relevant.

I notice here that it is you that thinks he speaks for a majority of users when you claimed the “the majority of iPhone/Smartphone users, aren’t interested in VoIP (hell, you can’t even do it on the iPhone unless you Jailbreak it…which is also only done by the minority).”

Not only do you claim to speak for the majority, you are TOTALLY WRONG as there are several apps right in the APP Store that offer VoIP. I use them all the time and have never jailbroke my phone.

WiFi and VoIP were great when traveling out of the country and having the use of a free hotel and coffee shop hotspot for calls and data. Also allows me to leave my laptop home! AT&T also offers 90,000 hotspots for free to their customers.

So tell me “OBiWon” did you REALLY own and use an iPhone? Did you ever look in the App Store? I guess you missed quite a bit, HAHA

Next, WiFi is NOT about replacing 3G. It actually adds a lot in the way of capabilities. Like joining local networks for file sharing, multi-player games, and many other things.

If you doubt that WiFi is not faster then 3G for web browsing of anything else, I would say you do not know much in the way of networks.

This all shows you are clueless and fact-less!

    Paul says:

    @ baggyp:

I already saw the early reviews on the Storm and the big clicker. I have also played with the Sprint Instinct which has basically the same thing. All the iPhone would have to do is turn on the vibrate when you touched the screen.

So great the Storm will give you a big click whenever you touch the screen, just in case you did not feel or know you touched the screen with your finger! HAHA Innovation, wow.

    @ MadMike:

Sure the smaller Bold, non-touch screen is clearly better than the larger multi-touch screen of the iPhone. Guess you do not watch too many videos of the BB. Or use the iPhone multi-touch much.

Now that I know you were a Marine, I will no longer make fun of you when I disagree with you. I honor all that served. Glad you are not Mad.
