Blackberry Storm to hit Best Buy November 23rd
We just want to warn all you Sunday newspaper readers out there: Don’t be alarmed when you flip to the Best Buy ad and see the Storm front and center on the Best Buy Mobile page for this Sunday. Yup, there it is in all its glory, supposedly available for sale today. It is even listed with a free Plantronics 360 bluetooth headset. Don’t go running down to Best Buy just yet though. It wont be there as these fliers were printed before the latest delay that pushed the Storm launch to November 23rd for Best Buy. A small disclaimer on its website confirms the new release date. So anyone who doesn’t want to brave the crowds at Verizon stores on release day can head on down to your local Best Buy one week from today and score yourself a Storm. Start robbing those piggy banks though, as the Storm without a contract as purchased from Best Buy will set you back a cool $599. Hit the jump to see the full Best Buy advertisement in this Sunday’s flier and the pricing page.
[Thanks, Brian!]

i will be cancelling my preorder….
Will it be unlocked? $599 really isn’t bad for this unlocked…
Does this handle GSM as well as Verizon’s CDMA?
I got the BB Bold, and the new OS is great. I am actually glad they postponed it to get the OS right. Assuming the storm uses a similar OS (4.6) – that too should be a great device.
No GSM, not the same OS.
Fantastic price for a crippled device with NO WiFi, NO multi-touch, NO games, NO apps, I am driving right over to wait of the line!!!
Let’s rejoice!
This is completely inaccurate, according to corporate, it is still on track for the 21st, just call 1800bestbuy!
@ Paul-
Awesome device, I like to use EVDO Rev A…. which means I’m not TIED TO A HOT SPOT to get fast net speeds…. I’d love to have the STORM considering it DOES have multi-touch…. Seeing the games available via BPLAY to name ONE of a HOST of 3rd party sites is GREAT…. once again, the HOST of 3rd party sites that I could get apps from with the STORM is fantastic, not to mention it will come preloaded with Docs to go, Slides to go, and MANY more features that I couldn’t get ANYWHERE else… maybe that is why I have pre-ordered
Ya might wanna get your facts right before posting.
Interesting, I was told yesterday at my local BB that they would have more then enough stock for pre-orders and walk-ins on the 21st. It would be nice if they got the story straight. And remember BB will price match Verizon’s price of 499
Paul,
I personally think that you suck. I am in the middle of the woods in the absolute middle of nowhere and ya know what I am getting a good connection on my vzw pearl. If the Storm is crippled then the icrap is practically comatose. I don’t need to drive 100 miles with my icrap to find a mcdonalds and leach off their wifi.
@Paul
WOW! you kept your rant to only 28 words. By Friday you should be out of steam on your epic distaste for BB.
@thedizzler: Is a completely separate OS or just a device specific build of the 4.6 OS?
As far as the no-GSM goes, then its not a world phone and no WiFi either. That’s disappointing.
Oh well. I have enough cellphones anyway.
the storm OS is 4.7 not 4.6
Here will be my game plan on the 21st.
Since I did my preorder with Best Buy I will check with them to see if I can get it for $199 without a $50 MIR. (Bestbuy does not do mail in rebates) If they do not have it until the 23rd I will be heading to my nearest Verizon Wireless Corporate store.
My best buy guy just called me.. he said the retail price is $699.. without a contract
I believe this is for people that didn’t preorder the phone to buy it, because I called up all my local Best buys and they say if you preordered that you will still get it the 21st.
@ directvrep:
Oh diluted one, if only what you claimed, while you were drinking your “kool-aide” was true. Rev A is still not as fast as WiFi and does not provide many things like joining a local network or using VoIP. Not to worry though, you will never be “tied” as the Storm as it HAS no WiFi or choice! Meaning when you are inside a building, campus, office or traveling where there is a weak or NO 3G signal your device is useless!
Next, there are NO apps for the Storm as of yet as it is new. There are only about 700 apps for BB (RIM claims this) as opposed to over 8,600 for the iPhone it is trying to copy. Also NO multi-touch as the UI is inferior to iPhone. Storm is touch, not multi-touch! Maybe you might want to try an iPhone before you say they are the same.
Now if you want to talk browsers, FTP, WebDAV, head-to-head gaming, VoIP, file sharing, music stores, over-the-air, navigation, or maps, I would be happy to compare for you.
I have ALL my facts straight! I do not drink “kool-aide!” HAHA
Happy getting your fingers “buzzed” with the vibrating keyboard no one needed! After spending $600 plus.
@ ddowell13815:
I don’t hate BB, I own one. Thank you for counting my words it shows you have little to do. Too bad you learned nothing from them.
What is 13815? Does this mean there are 13814 other guys like you on here? Gee I hope not.
@valace2 who thinks paul is a bunghole:
Guess what I was in my own house in the middle of a metro area on the east coast, a few miles from NYC and guess what I have on my Verizon 3G BB? An unusable signal in my OWN house where there is WiFi!
I know having a choice must be new to you! Having NO way to join a local network, use VoIP, or use a much faster free WiFi connection is a bad thing, right?
I have seem my 3G signal slow or useless when traveling and with NO wifi, no choice to make a VoIP call at a FREE hotspot.
So basically YOU have no point making YOU a “bunghole” for Verizon as you pay for your crippled device.
Now do you still want to tell me that having a CHOICE of WiFi would NOT have made this device more useful?
@ Paul
no multi-touch
really!?

@ directvrep:
TRUTH TIME. Here is some FACTS for you.
Hey tell me what you see?

Now look here:
http://www.apptism.com/ and here http://appshopper.com/
Also notice the prices for the same apps that run native on an iPhone as opposed to a 2D Java app on BB running in a virtual machine!
@ Paul-
I normally don’t get into this sort of thing because people skew the facts one way or the other. Based on our previous posts….
“Rev A is still not as fast as WiFi and does not provide many things like joining a local network or using VoIP”
I never said it was, and really… I don’t need to use VoIP considering ITS IS A PHONE, the local networking… hmm… there’s a company called Citrix that allows me to remoteley connect directly from my phone into my home PC and join any networks I would like…. but I never mentioned that either.

“Next, there are NO apps for the Storm as of yet as it is new. There are only about 700 apps for BB (RIM claims this) as opposed to over 8,600 for the iPhone it is trying to copy.”
Also posted by you—
“NO games, NO apps”
Really… so it’s a miracle that in the past 45 minutes over 700 apps have popped up? Truly, those 700 apps are more than any standard user will ever be able to use. Sure, 8,600 apps does give users a wide selection to chose from, but how many of them are really useful? I mean come on…. an app to make your cell phone look like a candel? Come on….really…
And last, but most certainly NOT least-
“Also NO multi-touch as the UI is inferior to iPhone. Storm is touch, not multi-touch!”
So, tell me then, how would the BB Storm be able to COPY AND PASTE ( something the IPhone still can’t do ) without multi-touch.
Again, Paul turns a simple blog into an argumentative one about the Storm…and EVERYONE disagrees with him…his stupidity is beyond me.
@ Paul
Not sure if you’re just doing this to pass time, but do you have an understanding of what multi-touch is? It doesn’t simply mean “pinching” the screen. The storm uses its multi-touch feature to copy and paste, a feature that some would call useful.
No Wi-fi is never a good thing, as more options is always ideal. But I know three friends that have the iphone, and the only time they use the wi-fi feature is when their at home or work, and at that point they are using their laptops instead. Also, if the data plan was optional, then maybe having no wi-fi would reach “deal breaker” status, but since you have to pony up $30 each month, it’s kind of a wash.
The Storm not having wi-fi is not limited to verizon, as the 9500 model that can’t be used on verizon also lacks wi-fi. This seems like a decision from RIM, not verizon. The next model will likely have wi-fi, if all of these complaints on these boards is any indication (maybe they’ll even go the apple route and call their next gen phone the Storm Wi-Fi).
As far as the apps is conerned, the iphone has that hands down. It does have more apps, but within 3 months the Storm will have a crapload of similarly useless, i mean, useful apps as the iphone. (I know I shouldn’t take a pot shot at at&t, but I can’t help it) I guess with all of those dropped calls and bad 3G reception, having so many apps is a good distraction, no?
Finally, do you have a verizon phone, or was that no signal example one of your friends?
@ Paul-
OK, so it all comes down to your “Ever so glorious APPS STORE”. I give you that. iPhone has a crap load of useless apps, everything from dog whistles, to a picture of a christmas tree that is animated to show blinking lights.
I give you the fact that there may be a few useful gems there that have a REAL reason for existing.
Now, you must give me the point that EACH statemnet you made in your fist post on this entry WITH THE EXCEPTION OF WI-FI was BULL CRAP.
Am I correct?
@ directvrep:
Sure I will take the bait here. First off the 700 apps for BB are NOT for Storm, you might have noticed I did post the link to Handango, go look before you speak. I backed up what I said with facts.
I also own a BB, Nokia, iPhone and a Windows Mobile phone!
So as I can figure CHOICE is not a priority for you. Sure that is OK, but joining a local network is important to many users as is WiFi and VoIP, especially since many people are giving up their landlines in large numbers. Citrix does not in anyway replace this.
With NO WiFi gaming is affected as it does not allow for multiplayer over the local network which is done on the iPhone the device the Storm is trying to compete with. The Storm at this time has NO games and the 700 apps are not for the Storm that has a different UI and OS.
As far as multi-touch, the Storm is not in the same class with iPhone. I suggest you try out an iPhone for zooming, and tapping before you claim the UI is the same.
Actually, the iPhone has several apps that allow for cut-copy-paste and I would lay a bet that you will see a global cut-copy-paste shows up in a free software update. I know you will not be seeing WiFi coming ever on the Storm or the amount of choice when it comes to choice!
So lets all announce now that directvrep, the person that may actually be pushing Direct TV may actually be against CHOICE, when it comes to WiFi and apps! HAHAHA
