Nokia 5800 XpressMusic available for pre-order in Spain, €150 more expensive than expected

European countries seem to be getting all the little surprises these days. First Germany gets its hands on the BlackBerry Curve 8900 with no warning and now Spain gets a little treat of its own - kind of. Here’s the good news: Nokia’s Spanish site has just unexpectedly made the 5800 XpressMusic available for pre-order. The bad news? The 5800 is listed at €429 as opposed to the very reasonable €279 Nokia announced the handset at. For those keeping score at home, that’s roughly a 54% premium. Umm Nokia, what’s up? If announced prices mean nothing, why not just go nuts and announce your next Nseries flagship at $100? We’re not sure what Nokia’s reasoning is for this pretty drastic price hike is, but 54% is quite an early adopter tax if Nokia is still planning to release the handset at €279.

The 279 euro price was before taxes. Of course, the taxes in Spain are not 50% but anyway…

Speculation would indicate that the 479 is the price of the unlocked version with CwM included. Unlocked without CwM and Locked/Branded with CwM is supposed to be closer to the original 279 price.

Engadget confirmed that the higher price is for 3 months of navigation, CwM, and unlocked. The base price without any services is the original 279 Nokia announced.

Actually, the taxes are about 50 EUR, so the normal price would be around 329 EUR.

The extra 100 EUR is for accessories, navigation or music vouchers - the Christmas packages. (Not CwM, that will only be available early 2009.)

After Christmas (starting January), the Nokia 5800 will be sold on base price (299 EUR in Germany, 329 EUR in most of the other countries), as promised.

There is no announced CwM package with Nokia 5800 yet. The only country, which already has the CwM is the UK, but it’s only with N95 8GB and 5310.

    Hope this clarifies :-)
