Forget the iPhone, Verizon pits the Storm against the Bold

In a little bit of marketing madness, Verizon Wireless matches its flagship BlackBerry Storm up against the BlackBerry Bold. We have already seen them champion the Storm over the iPhone and AT&T retaliate with their own smear campaign. Now it is time to take the smack talk to another level with some BlackBerry on BlackBerry action. So why does Verizon think the Storm is way better than the Bold?
- Verizon has a bigger and better network
- The Storm’s screen trumps the Bold and it has the cutting edge SurePress input method. The Bold is old school with its trackball and physical QWERTY keyboard
- The Storm has more : more microSD storage and more megapixels
- The Storm has both VZ Navigator & BlackBerry maps (though we’re not sure we would consider VZ Nav to be an advantage)
- The Storm has V Cast Music with Rhapsody, while the Bold has nothing. (Guess Verizon does not think too highly of the AT&T mobile music store. They wont even acknowledge its existence!)
Last but not least, Verizon answers the age old question, why doesn’t the Storm have Wi-Fi? Its answer: because you don’t need it on the nation’s biggest and best network! Those are fighting words there, Verizon. We will let our AT&T peeps respond in the comments. Fire away when ready!
Thanks, Luke!

I’ll co-sign that TRV$..hahahahahaha
I agree with Bla1ze, they definitely left some things out. That said I think they stack up about the same. I think it comes down to preference. Regardless every carrier has it’s problems and none of them are immune to problems and shitty service sometimes.
The 8830 on verizon is 3G?? Really? I have one, and while on the phone, I do not get any emails (no data and voice at the same time); I thought 3G allowed for voice and data at the same time……
Seems like Verizon like to keep comparing everything to the iPhone. They must be really sorry that they passed on it. Now if only they would wake up and acquire it finally as I know LOTS of people would ditch at&t to get it!!!
Verizon always makes me laugh. Best network…maybe if you live away from a metro area. I had verizon for 8 years in DC. Since switching to the iPhone I have had less dropped calls, and better call quality on AT&T’s 3G network. Faster internet as well on at&t than my Rev A on verizon.
step 2 – replace my PC with a new MacBook Pro
step 3 – build a house shaped like an apple
…tried staying away from apple for years, but its good sh*t.
i have both vzw an att. vzw is much stable service. i also had both iphone 2g and 3g. they both are nice phones but it is not a smartphone.
so funny. Live in a house shaped like an apple.
Daniel EVDO is 3G technology. So yes the 8830 uses 3G technology. Voice & Data is an advantage HSPA has over EVDO.
Verizon is a garbage company with garbage phones, a garbage network, and garbage employees.
i think the bold is a hot!! phone but At&t is a joke they over charge you every chance they get. if the bold came out on verizon i would get that over the storm. i think the storm will be a very hot phone 6months after it is released by then all the bugs should be taken care of. verizon is the best.
Boring… Whatever. Verizon must not be getting the Bold what so ever if they are comparing it to the Bold rather than the iPhone.
I live in Old Faithfull in Yellowstone I have reception with AT&T but the wifi is a must inside this park as my reception isn’t the best. Verizon get a clue!
Good comparison I think, since there’s no chance the Storm will outsell the iPhone, and the products don’t offer the same functionality, so why bother? The iPhone outsold RIM’s entire line of products last quarter, and while that likely will change this quarter, the iPhone will continue to outsell both the Bold and Storm individually (and perhaps even combined). On the other hand, the Storm may outsell the Bold, so this plays to the Storm’s strengths, although the Bold is what most tech ‘tards think a Blackberry is supposed to be (physical keyboard and all). Watching this play out should be interesting.
Gabe you’re a real retard, omg , you dont own shit , you probably the bag boy at some grocery store……lmao
@ Gabe
What heck about AT&T makes it so that it “complements” a BlackBerry better than VZW? They’re both the same price, and as you said, it depends on which network provides you with the best coverage (which in my area, AT&T is the worst of the major carriers).
Anyone know if the storm has iR (infrared)????
Thanks!
the iPhone is a toy. No professional or techie would be caught dead walking around holding their Ipod touch…i mean iphone to their ears. Maybe if you were in high school you’d be cool, but in a real workplace, it’s just embarrasing
Gosh most of you are dumbass fighting over stupid things. Get a life and go fuck some pussy, its much better than this.
$199 for the Storm vs. $299 for the Bold. I choose the STORM hands down!!!
Blackberry Storm all the way… That is my next handset fcuk the Iphone
im gonna get right to the point. i sold verizon for a couple years, and lets all get REAL.. Verizon does have a LARGER 3G footprint(which is fading fast because by year end AT&T is bringing a large number of area up on 3G) but NOBODY tops AT&T on 3G speeds. simple searches on You Tube will prove this OVER & OVER. Verizon does have a larger coverage footprint than AT&T. CDMA technology has been around significantly longer than GSM. Down to the phones, personally, a touchscreen is always the winner. after owning one i will never have anything different. BUT i will probably never give up my AT&T to go back to the Big Red. AT&T network(personal experience) has better clarity, faster speeds, coverage gaps are not as large and most of all i am able to use my internet and night & weekend minutes in my coverage map REGARDLESS if i am roaming on another carrier towers.
@Scott: Does anything have infrared? I’ve seriously never heard of infrared on phones, what is it used for?
all the companies bash each other, i work for AT&T and the fact of the matter is the bold can hold up to a 32gb card….the storm is geared to go up against the iphone, the bold is only being attacked because “big red” knows they cant compete with the iphone….no one can
also the storm doesn’t have IR, only palms do…its an antiquated way of transferring data
neutral, you say you sold Verizon for a couple years but you don’t know that no matter what domestic CDMA network you are on your features ie. n&w, m2m, etc. work like they would if you were in native coverage? Not to mention that Verizon is the only national carrier with no roaming restrictions.
