Forget the iPhone, Verizon pits the Storm against the Bold

Blackberry Storm vs Bold

In a little bit of marketing madness, Verizon Wireless matches its flagship BlackBerry Storm up against the BlackBerry Bold. We have already seen them champion the Storm over the iPhone and AT&T retaliate with their own smear campaign. Now it is time to take the smack talk to another level with some BlackBerry on BlackBerry action. So why does Verizon think the Storm is way better than the Bold?

  • Verizon has a bigger and better network
  • The Storm’s screen trumps the Bold and it has the cutting edge SurePress input method. The Bold is old school with its trackball and physical QWERTY keyboard
  • The Storm has more : more microSD storage and more megapixels
  • The Storm has both VZ Navigator & BlackBerry maps (though we’re not sure we would consider VZ Nav to be an advantage)
  • The Storm has V Cast Music with Rhapsody, while the Bold has nothing. (Guess Verizon does not think too highly of the AT&T mobile music store. They wont even acknowledge its existence!)

Last but not least, Verizon answers the age old question, why doesn’t the Storm have Wi-Fi? Its answer: because you don’t need it on the nation’s biggest and best network! Those are fighting words there, Verizon. We will let our AT&T peeps respond in the comments. Fire away when ready!

Thanks, Luke!

    @Crunch

It can’t be false advertising when this document is only intended for internal employees who work the frontline and used to differentiate the two products :/

Just like ATT has the same exact document (with ATT headers of course) show casing why the Bold is better than the Storm.

    *sigh*

I will ask this though…I wonder how RIM appreciates [/sarcasm] the comparisons between the two phones. That’s probably not what they envision.

Simple answer. The Storm can not compete against the iPhone that has Wifi, gaming, head-to-head gaming over wifi with over 8,400 apps to the Storm’s zero apps right now. Oh, did I mention an iPod inside.

VZW is probably doing this so when it loses to the iPhone with consumers, they can claim the Storm was not marketed to the same demographic.

This is perfect for RIM, they can now compete against themselves! HAHA

I’ve had cell phones since they first began back in the ’80’s with a 4watt transceiver suitcase phone. The really funny thing in all this is within about 90 days (if not less) some other new whiz bang model will be all the future coming rage and nobody will care about either one of these and thus the game will begin again!

My advice is simply pick a phone that works for you and learn to be happy instead of chasing the latest “gotta have thing”. Sure progress is needed and great, but losing sleep and getting your bowels in an uproar over a damn phone feature or two is causing the cell industry to laugh . . . all the way to the bank! So I say they’re all decent phones. Just pick one that suits you and learn to be happy.

Let’s see the Bold copied some of the iPhone’s look and the Storm tried to copy everything else. Except they forgot a few details like WiFi.

I expect that RIM will sell a lot of both, but it will probably not hurt the iPhone sales much. These devices are quite different the BB is a “smartphone” and the iPhone is way more than that, it is closer to a palm sized computer.

In my opinion I would place the Storm with the iPhone. Personally I am for the iPhone 100% (and work for att) but the Bold is a business phone all the way. I cant wait to see the bold, im a huge rim fan, but iPhone>Bold for me.

My buddy actually works for vzw and said he got to see the storm the other day and actually did not care for it.

    Time will tell.

If only the comparison was accurate, VZW has blocked out BB Maps as far as I know on every one of their handhelds. AT&T does this as well, and has telenav which is based off the same technology as VZ Navigator. Also the Bold can support up to a 16 gig card right now which they claim only 8gig. And a theoretical max of 32 once it is out.

(not 8703e, but thats not really even on the market anymore). 8830- 3g, curve- 3g, pearl- 3g. you lost your mind gabe better go find it

gabe your an idiot att is garbage there phones only work in the city. When you go out into rural areas you cant do shit. Att sucks with there bs that they have the fewest dropped calls. As far as the storm/bold thing goes I think they are two totally different style phones that do almost the same thing except that att sucks so go with the storm

@Those who edumacated about the false advertisement, I didn’t read that part of the article right. So yea, internal document….duh me haha

And every other word is f off, and f u. What stake do you have in whatever carrier you have? I love ATT, and the selection of phones is perfect for me. But I still don’t own stock in it.

Last I checked the bold had napster to go support which trumps verizon’s music store.
Last I checked no matter how fast your network is..wifi will always be faster. its assinine to cripple the wifi chip.
    GSM has freedom…
Last I checked pressing down on one entire screen for every sensitive action would get annoying..
The Storm’s screen really isn’t that great compared to the bold..
I really dont get how verizon throughs out largest network when that simply isn’t true. Piggy backing off of sprint and alltel doesn’t make you have a huge network. AT&T has the largest network hands down..I believe JD Power and Associates confirmed that?
What would have been smart is if they nixd the storm all together and made the bold’s screen touch sensitive..oh wait…wasn’t that already on the drawing board and only a GSM exclusive?:p aaah schnap.

Soo..with all the information VZW left out…anyone wanna do a real comparison chart and send it to em lol.

I can understand the fact it’s an internal document, basically to show employee’s the benefits etc..etc, but really..pitting the two devices against each other is kinda dumb.

Personally, RIM hasn’t yet sold me on the Storm, I’m waiting to see how that screen holds up after a few months usage.
