Forget the iPhone, Verizon pits the Storm against the Bold

Blackberry Storm vs Bold

In a little bit of marketing madness, Verizon Wireless matches its flagship BlackBerry Storm up against the BlackBerry Bold. We have already seen them champion the Storm over the iPhone and AT&T retaliate with their own smear campaign. Now it is time to take the smack talk to another level with some BlackBerry on BlackBerry action. So why does Verizon think the Storm is way better than the Bold?

  • Verizon has a bigger and better network
  • The Storm’s screen trumps the Bold and it has the cutting edge SurePress input method. The Bold is old school with its trackball and physical QWERTY keyboard
  • The Storm has more : more microSD storage and more megapixels
  • The Storm has both VZ Navigator & BlackBerry maps (though we’re not sure we would consider VZ Nav to be an advantage)
  • The Storm has V Cast Music with Rhapsody, while the Bold has nothing. (Guess Verizon does not think too highly of the AT&T mobile music store. They wont even acknowledge its existence!)

Last but not least, Verizon answers the age old question, why doesn’t the Storm have Wi-Fi? Its answer: because you don’t need it on the nation’s biggest and best network! Those are fighting words there, Verizon. We will let our AT&T peeps respond in the comments. Fire away when ready!

Thanks, Luke!

So I’m most likely going to keep my AT&T account open & give this Verizon thing a shot specifically for the device. I figure I should keep my AT&T account open just in case this ends up being a total sham or I end up missing my GSM freedom too much. What are the cons of being with Verizon other than limited handset choices? They seem to be getting a bit better/quicker at that now. What do most people mean specifically by “Verizon cripples handsets”?

I’ve got to admit that vzw has an awesome network. I never used wifi after the first month when I was with them simply because I always had signal, and turning off wifi meant less battery wear. in other words, I really didn’t nned it, even for video streaming.

I just hope the UI is better than BGR first saw now that they’ve had more time to work on it…

Lol. It was only a matter of time before the pit these two devices against each other. Personally, I believe it’s hard to say one is better than the other. But that’s me. Good read Kelly, thnx.

I am a former AT&T customer now turned Big Red. I personally think neither phone is better than the other just DIFFERENT. I would actually like to have the BOLD on CDMA too & use that as a more business oriented BB than the storm. The storm is Bling, the Bold is all business. Both lovely in their own different ways!!!

I find it hilarious that VZW has turned the Storm’s lack of WiFi into an advantage over the Bold.

Well I’m not saying whether vzw or at&t is better. But here dealing with att corp and numberless blackberry reps me and associates have been able to ask what is a better blackberry. First att had their choice first with wich phone they wanted -storm or bold. They went with the bold for some strange reason. This is just my thoughts now but seeing as the blackberrys bread and butter is email why in the hell would u want a touchscreen. I own several different phones and the iphone is one of them. I use it in small doses for email and messaging. For this simple fact. No matter how fancy or what awsome software come with it a blackberry Far surpasses any other phone. Vzw has a nice network but if I was new customer I would want the best network for my phone. Bottom line no matter how techincal u want to get att is the network that best suits the blackberry. Leave the touch screens for people that use them every so aften. Aslo from more than a few bb reps the storm and bold are the same but one is touch one is not. Att compliments blackerry very niceley. So no matter I would go with the bold if I had to.(But really I world choose either I will wait for the 8900) choose I would go with boldif I Had to choose. I had been with vzw for about 4 yrs before joining att and I was impressed so that I bought in and now owne a few att stores. But what do I know. Vzw needs to not only expand in metro areas but rural also. I know most u city folk do not know much more than what u have in your areas. But open up your eyes. Cities aren’t the only places people live and need a decent carrier. But to any of you that know otherwise step out of your box.

So impressed with how Verizon thinks their network negates the need for WiFi…

Verizon is so stupid in that they cripple there phones by removing wifi. You can’t get a Verizon signal everywhere. If I’m in Grand Central Station underground I still have access to my email via wifi. I haven’t had any problems with my Iphone since I switched over to ATT. Nevermind paying for there “network” other carriers are just as good and in my case even better!

I like how VZW doesn’t put the fact that the Bold has At&t Navigator on there either. and I have no idea how they can say their Network is a plus over Wi-Fi. That’s absurd.

I’m gonna have to agree with fyrestarrter.. It’s not that one is BETTER than the other. They are two different BB’s on two different Networks. They are just plain different. Both good phones though.

    @Drew
“dude fuck verizon with the gay ass comparisions.. its getting really old .. and its pointless and one sided everytime..”

Okay, I just have to laugh at your comment. My guess is this TOO is an internal document like other one ones have been(aka: only meant for VZW employee eyes). Documents like this one are a MUST. All the companies do it. It’s strickly to inform their employees about the competition. And your comment about it being “one sided everytime..” LOL Of course it’s one sided. Do you really think VZW is going to make a document stating why another carriers phone is better than theirs. Wake up my friend. It’s called competition.

    Is this possibly false advertising??

This is not a fair comparison. The AT&T (TeleNav) GPS Navigator is not even mentioned.

Interesting. And WiFi *IS* always…always faster than ANY form of the 3G. I have EXCELLENT 3G reception on AT&T where I live, so the BEST signal is still NOT as good as a WiFi Connection. Any way you slice it.

    Bold User says:

As I look at these comparisons, I find it odd that Verizon sends out these comparisons riddle with misinformation and expects their reps to feed lies to customers. Really, if any educated customer were to do any kind of research, they will see the deception and one sided attempts of what they call a comparison.

*Bold has Telenav (which is better than VZNav) and it’s also incorrect because AT&T didn’t even allow BB Maps to be put on the Bold by default.

*Bold supports up to 32G of storage, not 8

*Unless Verizon just made it so the entire country has coverage, and have 3G at that, not having WiFi is a disadvantage.

*When will people learn that the MP count doesn’t really matter (when it’s so close together) unless you plan on blowing up the pictures to a bigger size. It’s all about the lens.

Most Blackberry owners own a blackberry for business reasons. I would think having the touchscreen would be more of a hindrance than a positive aspect. Also, some people didn’t choose the iPhone as their business phone simply because they wanted a real keyboard and not some virtual one. Just from what I hear about the screen being one big button, and I have not used the Storm, one would think it would take longer to type out a text or email since your would have to press in the screen with every click. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong.

    /end rant

The only advantage the storm has is a 3.2 mp camara and a bigger screen oh and also a touchscreen keyboard, the Bold Wins no doubt, AT&T network is not as huge as verizons but AT&T 3G is way, way faster than verizon EVDO and also AT&T voice service is much clear than verizon fuzzy shit, the storm was a really nice phone until verizon turn it into shit when they ask for WiFi to be remove and then loaded that awful verizon software on to it, how i know this? cause i have service with both of them

Why are there so many retards on this board. Its not false advertising and of course its one sided ITS A FUCKEN TRAINING DOCUMENT FOR VERIZON EMPLOYEES!!

And to that guy who chooses AT&T because the are obviously better… your choice has nothing to do with the fact that you own AT&T stores does it?

    AHh fuck you

Is this a serious comparison? The whole storm thing I understand, but it’s really a little late to compare it now that everyone owns an Iphone, and also, the bold is way sicker. Totally what a motern day device should be, touch screens are just a fad.
