Confirmed: Xperia X1a Black available only at Best Buy online

It looks like another sweet handset is making its way to Best Buy Mobile and will be exclusive to the mega-retailer. So, before you jump out of your seat and head to Best Buy, let us make this clear: The black Sony Ericsson Xperia X1a is only available online! We scooped you earlier this week when we learned that the silver X1a was coming to Best Buy stores around the country and now that we know pre-orders start November 13 from Sony as well, the streets are obviously going to be flooded with silver models. At $800 a pop, who wouldn’t get one? If you want to separate yourself from the inevitable hoards of silver X1a owners, black is the only way to go. No solid date for when it’s going to show up online and become available yet, but we imagine it’ll be around the same time the silver model hits brick and mortar Best Buys. So is anyone going to log on and pick one of these up when it’s available? Hit the jump for a bigger shot.
[Thanks, Atom!]

haha that’s great. I’d consider this phone if it was 200, 300 or even 400 bucks. But 800? It has no more capability then phones priced much lower. And honestly, it’s not the best looking thing, so i’ll pass.
Hmm, $800 for a Win Mobile device made by Sony and only to be sold at Best Buy.
FAIL!
Yeah, screw this. I’d rather get an unlocked Storm for $200 cheaper.
Yah, good luck competing with the TouchPro for $499. Hell, Best Buy is still charging $700 for the Touch Diamond.
They must be trying to appeal to the same people who bought the “I Am Rich” app from the Apple Store. Except I think the “I Am Rich” app is a better value.
I remember when Circuit City started carrying specialized crap (like the DIVX players). That seemed to work out well for them in the long run…

Sony Ericson is going to lose big on this piece of crap.
When the price of a cellphone is $400 dollars more than your basic WIndows laptop … yeah. I cap my cellphones at $250, and even that makes me cringe. It’s just a phone maaaaaaan. In this economy, I doubt I’ll see one outside of BestBuy.
$600 or even $650 works, but $800=fail
And yes, I realize that a Touch Pro/ATT Fuze off of contract goes for the same price.
I’m a huge WinMo fan as it offers a ton of functionality I could NEVER get from Symbian, BB, or the iPhone. Furthermore, I really want this phone, but for me its either going to be when/if ATT picks it up and subsidizes it or through eBay for like $650 when the price drops.
I’ll probably buy it just to have it, been wanting if forever now. The price is a bit high, but whatever….money comes and money goes, somebody has to fuel the economy!
I just ordered mine @ the Sony Style site. Currently it looks like only silver will be available.
Like you said, money comes and goes. Take it easy.
i have to agree with chris i’d prefer this compared to the touch pro but for 700+ this is crazy
i don’t think sony thought this out very well it’s a great phone but it’s terrible marketing no one will pick it up to ATT selling the Fuze for a lot cheaper
This is one of those phones that in 6 months sell for under $200 on ebay , that why you have to love the jesus phone, i bought a refurbished jesus phone for $299 at the Apple store and after 7 months of used i got $500 for it on ebay, brought a new 16GB jesus and still ended up with $200 in my pocket
@keymaker
That’s completely false. Used upper end HTC phones sell for a pretty penny on eBay, and they continue to sell really well even years down the line.
Yeah right, ok buddy what ever you say
@keymaker
I need to clarify what Chris said, used unlocked HTC phones with or without Carrier modification sell for significantly more than contract prices on EBay, even 1-2 years after release. Unlike Symbian or IPhones, you can upgrade the OS a long time after.
anyone else notice the $700 price on that receipt?
Why is it no one at any Best Buy knows anything about this? They all say they don’t know if they’re even getting it in-store, only online, and their computers all say silver, not black.
Still no sign of this phone anywhere. Backorders on silver everywhere which I know a few batches of which shipped.
Black however is not to be found on bestbuy.com and it is the 8th at this point.
To all those who oppose and may never have even had the pleasure of owning a Sony Ericsson before, believe it. The X1a is THE SHIT. Black or Silver, who cares. The phone does everything it should and lives to the hype.
Doubters maybe out there but I own one and love it. It’s user friendly, it’s got ace vision and sound and despite the flack it got about it being slow between programmes it still moves with speed.
Best of all, it’s not a F#@$IN I (Wanna be) Phone.
Fact: The I-Phone is now dead, Long live the X1a.
BUY IT.
