Verizon announces BlackBerry Storm release date, November 21st, $199

At least y’all will have to wait less, not longer, right? We’re finally allowed to publish what the BlackBerry world has been waiting for — the official release date for the BlackBerry Storm. November 21st is the date that shall live in infamy. Well, not really, but you get the point! So… does this mean any Joe Six-pack or Joe The Plumber can walk into a Verizon Wireless store and get a Storm? Yes sir! The 21st is the general availability date and that includes corporate stores, telesales, online, etc. The price? $199 like we’ve said all along. That’s after a $50 MIR, but hey, do you really care at this point? Nope. We’re also told stock levels will be enormous, so there shouldn’t be any issue getting a unit on launch day. Just don’t come cryin’ to us if some pimple-faced adolescent manages to grab the last one right before you. Let’s quickly recap so there is no confusion:
- November 21st
- $199
Thank you and good night (or good day, for you folks on the other side of the world).

I AM SO TIRED OF HAVING TO SET PEOPLE STRAIGHT ON THIS SITE, BUT NONETHELESS HERE GOES;
THIS DEVICE IS THE BEST TOUCH SCREEN ON THE MARKET. THE CLICK TECHNOLOGY OF THE SCREEN MAKES IT LEAPS AND BOUNDS AHEAD OF ANY OTHER DEVICES FOR 1..WELL 2 REASONS – THE NAVIGATION AND SELECTION ARE TWO SEPERATE ACTIONS ON THE DEVICE (TOUCH THE DEVICE TO NAVIGATE AND CLICK THE DEVICE TO SELECT) THIS IMPROVES ACCURACY AND USER EXPERIENCE. AS I STATED AT THE LAUNCH PARTY THE DEVICES WERE NOT QUITE READY, BUT I AM HAPPY TO REPORT THEY ARE IN TIP TOP SHAPE AND ITS UNBELIEVABLE…TAKE MY COMMENTS AS YOU WILL, BUT AS AN UNBIASED OPINION WHO IS MOST INTERESTED IN THE PROGRESSION OF TECHNOLGY YOU CAN REST ASSURED YOU WILL BE HAPPY WITH THIS DEVICE.
WELL DONE RIM AND I LOOK FORWARD TO WHO WILL BRING THE NEXT EVOLUTION FORWARD….WHOMEVER THAT MAY BE
Verizon used to have the new every two every 24 months. they moved it to every twenty months. They are pretty much not going to budge’ unless you make a scene and get mad. helps if you tell em that you use it for business. take that from a former employee
I wish Verizon would take preorders on the Storm…. Why not just let people come in beginning of next week, sign the paperwork,pay , and on the 21st you just walk in the “express line” pick up your Storm and go home, the stores are all going to be a mess, I’ll prob just order it on the phone and get it the folowing Monday
I’m pre-ordering it through my corporate rep. Will be delivered on Friday, activated with my current number ported.
Im wondering if this will be a good international phone. I know its a quadband phone, but when my contract ends with Verizon would I still be able to put a SIM card in it (in Europe) and have it work there? From what I know, you can buy any phone (that picks up the frequencies there) and add a SIM card and it will work. But there is the complication of getting it unlocked etc. So, Im asking this: If I get this phone, will I be able to use it in abroad even after my contract with Verizon is up?
I have a iphone now there a things I can’t do like watch video or down load video on my iphone besides YouTube Will the bb storm let me down load video or view from Internet or is it the same as I phone where you can not down load programs to phone please help thanks William
What dept. do you work for rescue 30
For Verizon customers, if you are within 4 months of the expiration of your contract you are eligible for an upgrade.
completely overrated…no wifi…a touch screen…wooohooo…big deal, Iphone will dominate this sprinkler
bob = Paul = Evilhomer = Filterman = etc.
So damn consistent! And it’s ‘iPhone’ fanboy.
oh…and of course I forgot ‘Geewiz’ in the link of names/same person.
Just tell him that his iPhone DID beat up your Blackberry and maybe he will run away happy. It’s an odd personality that must run around the internet with the “winning” appliance…
As a person who is not corporate, but looking for something fun, one of the bigger things that has made me choose the Storm over the I Phone is the fact that you cant send a picture message on the I Phone. It has to go through email. I love to send pix messages on my ‘regular’ phone. And I dont want to lose that feature! I just want something I can get my email on and browse the internet if I want to, in addition to my picture messaging and phone calls.
Anyone know if I will be able to use BB messenger through Verizon? I heard a nasty rumour that Verizon blocks out BB messenger so people are forced to text messaging… Big killer is it’s true.
Getting ready to ditch my newly purchased iPhone 3G and return to a trusty Blackberry – can’t stand the stupid thing.
My only wonder is will I be able to type as fast as I once was able to on a “standard” Blackberry. I still have to page to another screen to type numbers & symbols right? And will the sound of that screen clicking all the time ever get annoying? I enjoyed being able to stealthily type a text during a meeting.
Anyone know?
Thanks for the update BGR!
l like my iPhone but what realy sucks is the speakers you have to hold it 2 inches from your ear if there is backround noise don’t even bother also if u get a message you have to go to website put in a id code and a user I’d what kind of shit is that you need a pen and note pad I’m starting to hate my iPhone as I type
@ Chad -
Unfortunately, the special offer doesn’t get you anything. I got the same ad (which implies the device is available on the 16th to VIP customers) but it was just a come on.
I wore the local store manager out over the ad. Hopefully, he forget me by Friday …
Good Luck.
Mike
@ GTwinkie I don’t know if you can lower the volume on the click noise but on the one I tried you could barely hear it.
@GTwinkie
Yes, you can turn the click sound off.
BB Messenger will work on the verizon network.. It doesnt use Verizons Netowkr only for the data end but the messenger acually goes threw the BB Servers… But it does work and its great.
oh my gosh!!!!! this phone is amazing and i am fer sure buying it. if you dont buy it, ur a vanilla frosty who can’t handle a real phone *cough* zac *cough*

UNBELIEVABLE!!!
I am extremely disappointed, frustrated, and shocked at today’s (11/21/08) highly publicized “big release” of the new Blackberry Storm phone.
I don’t even know where to begin in explaining today’s circumstances so I’ll just try to summarize the details…
None of the store’s phone recording’s mentioned the “promotional” 7.am. store opening, so needless to say when I called a few minutes before what I expected was the opening at 9a.m., all of the Storms were already sold out!
3 of the stores in my area had less than 100 units?! (5, 20, & 75)
On the phone, I was lied to by 2 different store representative’s: 1 saying they were receiving another shipment later in the day so to come on by; the other saying if I came by they’d waive the overnight shipping fee and I’d have the phone by tomorrow a.m., plus there was “nobody in line” so I could place the order right away…
After going to the store, (5 mins. away) there were about 10 people in line and 20 or so already in queue or in the store!
After waiting about 30 mins. or so, still nowhere nearing being helped or getting any answers, the word from the store reps. was that now everything is on back order and it could take up to 5 days to ship if I ordered it today.
The whole scene was a mess and everyone had a different answer so I eventually left to go home and figured I’d just order it online…
Of course, that led me nowhere because the icing on the cake was that your website was down!
For a nationally-publicized, long-running ad campaign, high-profile product release, blogs all over the place about the hype…
What in the world happened today???
Didn’t anyone learn from the iPhone releases that there is a huge demand out here for these devices?
It’s hard to believe that it appears Verizon was not prepared for today’s release in even the slightest degree.
I do not even know what else to say but this is absolutely ridiculous.

@ P’Od I completely agree…I tried all the methods as you said and even called them…only to be told to call back in two to three hours. I’m completely disgusted with the launch of this product. COMPLETELY!
u can upgrae your phone now u have to be at least 22 months till you can upgrade on a 2 year plan because i called and i wasn’t eligable i had to pay full retail price i like it its just kind of slow but its an upgrade software coming out for it next week but other than that i love it
