Verizon announces BlackBerry Storm release date, November 21st, $199

At least y’all will have to wait less, not longer, right? We’re finally allowed to publish what the BlackBerry world has been waiting for — the official release date for the BlackBerry Storm. November 21st is the date that shall live in infamy. Well, not really, but you get the point! So… does this mean any Joe Six-pack or Joe The Plumber can walk into a Verizon Wireless store and get a Storm? Yes sir! The 21st is the general availability date and that includes corporate stores, telesales, online, etc. The price? $199 like we’ve said all along. That’s after a $50 MIR, but hey, do you really care at this point? Nope. We’re also told stock levels will be enormous, so there shouldn’t be any issue getting a unit on launch day. Just don’t come cryin’ to us if some pimple-faced adolescent manages to grab the last one right before you. Let’s quickly recap so there is no confusion:
- November 21st
- $199
Thank you and good night (or good day, for you folks on the other side of the world).

So, here’s the question…will this phone be unlocked and usable on T-Mobile in the US?
No WiFi, No apps, NO DEAL.
Let the flames begin!
There will be apps. There have always been apps for Blackberry phones, and now BB is setting up a similar app store to veiw/download from your phone. But 3rd party apps have been an integral part of just about every smartphone(WinMo/Palm/BB) for a very long time
That took longer than expected, and so it begins.
I seriously don’t understand the pizzing match mentality around “my iPhone can beat up your Storm”. Do people really have their identities grounded in their PHONES? OMG.
This will be my first Blackberry, should be awesome. As my business has evolved it now makes a lot of sense for me.
BTW, in my area, Verizon happens to be THE carrier with reliable coverage.
@Geewiz 3rd part applications have always been on the BlackBerry platform.
lol @ Perspective
Do you really want us to sit here and list all the things that the iPhone CANT do when compared to a BB?
We’d need a whole website.
@ beenthere donethat
You may have used one “3 weeks ago” but the one you used 3 weeks ago may be running a build from 5 months ago.
@ Evilhomer and Kelly…since you guys are in the same boat as me in terms of turning on Wifi through regedit was any of you guys able to send and receive pix messaging through wifi or could you only surf the web because I do not think it can be accomplished through Wifi on the 6700. Please let me know.
I have read some accounts of people being concerned that the Storm will not connect to Wi-Fi because Verizon has disabled this ability.
Is anyone else concerned about this or is it a select few that feel this is necessary?
Check with your online account or rep usaly they let you upgrade before your two years up depending on your current plan. You just have to add 2 more years to your plan
@NOThtcKid
Gotta give it to you. You have been right on most of the time. Even when BG & the other blogs were saying otherwise. You obviously have an in @VZW. Do you work there or know someone in management? Just wondering
That’s a joke, right? There is no wifi.
@ Michael
Agreed. If you like the iphone or another phone better, then keep it. If you like Blackberry & the new storm, then get one and be happy. Who cares what someone else likes? Just enjoy what you’ve got. Oh, but wait, then what would there be to blog about? OK keep fighting, that’s more fun!
@ Michael.
Thank you. I needed that. It should all depend on what you want. Corporate: Blackberry Individual: Iphone. Done and done.
@ Stormy: LOL!!!
I just personally like having a phone no one else has. EVERYONE has a Iphone (and bberry is fast approaching that category). Why would I want what everyone has. I like people looking at my phone going..Ohhh what’s that phone? Makes me feel good
I have the LG enV.
The Storm will be my first smart phone.
I have an iPod touch and love it.
Though the WiFi limits me to only my job and home.
I would love to check my email and surf the web at a park or on the train.
I am an add on line on my Mother’s plan. I pay her my share a month. We have unlimited txt messages and pic/vid messages for everyone on the plan.
What am I looking at for monthly unlimited internet on the Blackberry once I switch from my enV to the Storm? Does it use my daytime minutes?
I pay about $30 now for my portion now. What should I expect now since I’m only an add on line?
Just ordered mine today for $199 – $100 rebate from my account manager.
this is awesome…I do wonder if my wife will let me have a 3rd line w/ Verizon since I have ATT and TMo…
That’ll be the battle
@ Big Papi
What? You signed a $52,000,000 four-year deal with the Sox last year! You can have as many damn lines as you want! If the wife don’t like it, tell her to move to LA and shack up with Manny!
Bandon M How you pull that off..??? I tried calling and have 4 lines and they told me on Fridaythe 21st????
@Stormy
I’ve been trying to set priorities…she doesn’t listen. I’d ship her for a Storm in a heartbeat…but like the old adage goes, it’s cheaper to keep her
Yep…she called me this morning and took my order. It’ll be available 11/21 but she already put me on the list.
I just got back from the Times Square Storm Grab challenge…was online for a while but got tired plus it’s raining so I dipp’d…already stamped so I just gotta get back online when I head back before it closes at 7…a friend of mine works for the ad agency doing the pro she’s keeping tally for me. She said it’s down to 30 so if you’re in the area head over.
lmao @ Stormy…you’re a funny dude…if it wasn’t for your racist comment about the election a few posts back you’d be one of my favorites on here.
@Big Papi I’ll take her as long as she’s not fat or isn’t ugly! But then again if she’s datin’ a pro palyer she must be baddd.
You can get it early. I just called today and I am due for my new every two in January also. Just call 611….
November 21st.
