Verizon announces BlackBerry Storm release date, November 21st, $199

At least y’all will have to wait less, not longer, right? We’re finally allowed to publish what the BlackBerry world has been waiting for — the official release date for the BlackBerry Storm. November 21st is the date that shall live in infamy. Well, not really, but you get the point! So… does this mean any Joe Six-pack or Joe The Plumber can walk into a Verizon Wireless store and get a Storm? Yes sir! The 21st is the general availability date and that includes corporate stores, telesales, online, etc. The price? $199 like we’ve said all along. That’s after a $50 MIR, but hey, do you really care at this point? Nope. We’re also told stock levels will be enormous, so there shouldn’t be any issue getting a unit on launch day. Just don’t come cryin’ to us if some pimple-faced adolescent manages to grab the last one right before you. Let’s quickly recap so there is no confusion:

  • November 21st
  • $199

Thank you and good night (or good day, for you folks on the other side of the world).

    i used the Storm about 3 weeks ago and unless RIM has worked miracles in the last few weeks it was so buggy it was amost unusable. why do you think there are so many delays? also I suspect the reason it is launching is US thanksgiving not because it is technically finally ready or bug-free they simply cannot miss the black friday window from a business standpoint….

    what I really wanted to see was media, but the version I was using kept crashing while trying to view a video

    not a sure-type fan so i would never buy one/use it. (I don’t think touchscreen typing is mature enough yet until you get haptics into them.) you get full qwerty if you tilt it horizontal but shared keys sure-type when vertical

    I spoke to best buy through chat online and they told me the release date for best buy is the 21st just like the Verizon release. I have no idea what to do at this point. May just go to the Verizon store after all. Anyone have guesses on how early were going to need to show up.

    Finally!!! I can’t wait to get one in my hands and see how it stacks up to my iphone. I switched from Verizon to AT&T a year and a half ago for the iphone and have been pretty much happy with the device (although it had to be replaced twice) but I just can’t live with AT&T anymore. I live in Far Hills, NJ and I get very spotty service here and in the surrounding towns. I have to get 10 miles from my home before I’ll make a call so I know it won’t be dropped. When our phone lines were down because of a storm last week I had to borrow my neighbors cell phone (on Verizon) to make a call. I’m going to pay the penalty to leave shitty AT&T for good. I just hope the storm works as well as it looks.

    I thought I was eligable for my NE2 but turns out I’m eligable for an upgrade, not my NE2. Seems like these are 2 different things according to VZW. My NE2 is set for Nov 23rd and they won’t allow me to get the Storm at my NE2 price on the 21st. They said I have to wait until the 23rd.

    I HAVE to ask this. Why is everyone trying to kill the IPhone? I refuse to be a slave to Apple myself–and make fun of everyone who has one. (Except my co-worker with the air hockey app–that is AWESOME). I DO know that no matter WHAT new device comes out, it won’t kill the IPhone–either the form is off (too thick, too long, screen is not as pretty) or the function is off (no wifi, not enough internal memory, no apps, browser is slow). Can’t we all play in the same cellular playpen people?

    @jsos

    Thats because they allow you to upgrade up to six months before the end of the contract date. New every two gives you up to a $100 discount on top of the new customer price, hence why they’d rather you wait it out. In all honesty though whats another two days of feinding, wait it out and save $100. Wish i was closer to my new every 2 (dec ‘09 :-( )

    the original post the BGR made about the 24th was real, on a real powerpoint from the real vice president of sales.

    however that PP was going to be leaked, and everyone knew it…once it hit the internet people started calling in to the call centers, asking the stores, and demand grew IMMENSELY.

    thanks in part to this website for the breaking PP slides, the pressure was put on RIM to move it up to the 20th. they said the 21st is the best shot, they solidified it, and away we go.
    and just as the other post pointed out, BB will be getting theirs in second priority…as another poster pointed out…the 23rd.
    for those of you thinking it is some giant error by BGR, this is how the cellular industry works all the time…you are all now just getting a taste of what goes down on a daily basis for most of us. business pricing is not “set in stone” for those asking….

    at any rate, the date was bumped up due to demand, and the press release went out officially so that there was no more “speculating” as to when it would launch. Again I question if most of you troglodytes are even worthy of knowing the information that you get through these websites, because you CLEARLY don’t understand most of it.

    line up, get ready…the storm is coming.

    @MiSoFine
    You are so right. I think everyone wants to “kill” the iphone because it’s had so much success. Most people want to believe that they have the best available of whatever it is(car, computer, cell phone) so they have to knock the other things, in this case the iphone because of it’s enormous popularity. I guess it makes them feel better about their purchase if the other choices are “shit” or “garbage”. The Iphone isn’t going anywhere, and guess what, neither is RIM. The iphone is a great device but so it seems is the storm. Enough so that I’m switching back to Verizon after a 18 months trial with AT&T. My 14yo niece is going to love her new(used) iphone. Can’t wait to see her expression when I give it to her on Thanksgiving.

    I am over a year away from my new every two. I successfully got my upgrade pushed up about 4 months when I switched from my Mot Q to my Palm 755P. They had record of all the troubles I had so it wasn’t really an issue. THis time around I have had more than double the problems with my palm. I love the phone but it is in a bad need of an overhaul (Palm OS that is). I am a business customer and we have between 8-10 phones on our account. I would hope that with proper negotiation and reasoning that they would be willing to give me the contract price. I will gladly renew my contract. Verizon may have some of the weakest phones but their service is unbeatable.
