Everything you need to know about the Verizon Wireless Touch Pro

Tired of hearing about the Touch Pro? Hold on a little bit longer as the Verizon Touch Pro rumor mill is just starting to heat up. Earlier today, Engadget leaked a tentative launch date of November 24th for online/B2B/telesales and December 1st for retail stores. Soon thereafter, we got our hands on a Need to Know Guide that covers the ins and outs of using the Verizon Wireless Touch Pro.  We picked out the highlights for you and we can finally put that whole “Verizon completely neutered the Touch Pro” rumor to rest. The document confirms that XV6850 will ship with a Qualcomm 7500A processor clocked at 528MHz, not the rumored 400MHz CPU. It also lists the 512MB of ROM and 192MB of RAM, which we realize is less than the 512MB/288MB on Sprint and AT&T. Why the difference? We are not too sure, maybe Verizon is reporting the available RAM and not the installed RAM. Regardless, it is nice to see the faster processor and 192MB of RAM which is way better than the rumored 400MHz and 128MB RAM device we were afraid Verizon was going to foist on its customers. The rest of the document has some nice eye candy of Verizon’s very red interface and a quick shot of the XV6850’s very different keyboard layout. Hit the jump for some more pages from the guide.

Funny how they failed to mention that the AT&T version supports up to 32 GB versus Verizon’s 16. Interesting.

Really? How is that even possible if hardware is the same… ? Maybe it’s just not officially “supported” but will work?

I really hope Verizon stops this madness of hampering down their smartphones. I’m debating about leaving AT&T and I hope I’m not doing the wrong thing about leaving AT&T for Verizon.

The Blackberry Storm is just on my radar right now so hopefully some Verizon users will help me out with this choice. Some people say stay with AT&T and some say go to Verizon. It’s been pretty even so far. Oh, btw I am using an iPhone 3G.

I just hope they fixed some of the lag bugs and didn’t decide to cripple it to terribly bad with some unseen form of the “Big Red” theme.

BG, Verizon likes to firmware limit their slots to 8 as does Sprint. It’s really more of a stability issue as first-gen 16/32 microSDHC cards will invariably have issues once they are widely available.

@mr. Hi-Definition, don’t do it dude or you will be sorry, i have had both of them and to be honest verizon was the best network but if your switching from AT&T the first thing you will notice is how the voice service is not as clear as AT&T, but you will get use to it within a few week, verizon has great coverage & the best customer service you could imagine, but they like to cripple devices for their advantage and will charge you for every single thing, i almost forgot, they have some special tax thats also always a few times higher than everyone else

I’ve been thrilled with sprint. It’s really just how the coverage is where you need and use it most. Sprint is the cheapest, so if you get good service where you’re at, I would honestly give them a shot. Thats why you get the 30 day trial period.

I just love how AT&T continues to beat Verizon to the punch. The ONLY reason these documents “surfaced” is because AT&T released the Bold on the 4th and the Fuze on Tuesday.

The RAM thing is weird. After looking at the specs, it almost looks like this is essentially (hardware-wise) a CDMA Touch Diamond, but with the higher amount of ROM from the Touch Pro. Actually, looking at it further, it seems like that is exactly what it is. Perhaps it was cheaper to have the specs match? (it could also mean Verizon might get the regular stealth-fight battery cover, which would be sweet)

The microSD card thing is odd, but it may be a difference in the actual hardware. The Sprint version also tops out at 16GB, so maybe its a CDMA issue?

Can someone who knows more about this stuff than me tell me if this phone will work on “normal” cell networks everywhere in the world, or will it only work on Verizon-type networks?

you must be smoking crack to think at&t has better voice call quality. every time i talk to someone with at&t all i hear is static. i’ve had all big 4 operators and verizon has the best voice quality and i’ve lived all over the country so it’s not just my area.

It is an over clocked version of the tytn xv6800, they avoid using new technology. Matter of fact they chose an opposite direction regarding technology away backward and away from the other smart carriers who satisfy their customers, customers are last in Verizon mind.
They screwed all of the new smart phones so buyers just think of the storm, its not even ethical. They even screwed the storm by taking away the WiFi.
    Storm: No WiFi
Touch pro: No new generation of chipset MSM7201a, or accelerometer with reduced the memory (same or less performance as the TYTN because the VGA screen requires more power so with the 528MHZ (VGA) u get same performance as of 400MHZ (QVGA) screen, technology should make things better and more sophisticated
Samsung Omnia: No VGA screen nor Auto focus Camera ( what is the sense of having 5 MP with out Auto Focus)
Saga: no VGA, no flash and no auto focus
    That is sick
I wish the government starts to keep their eyes on carriers control over the handset there should be some regulations here.
Carriers can control the service not the handset that is used by customers.

I for one cant beleive anyone would consider the diamond or pro with the storm coming in the next 10ish days. I out of curiosity stopped in my local sprint and att store and was disappointed with how slow and unresponsive the pro is.. Sprint as always was sporting their array of the same push to talk phones they had 6yrs ago when I was a customer and att had no shortage of razrs.. I played with the iphones truly amazing screen for a few then the bold..but Im still stuck on the storm.. I messed with one for about a minute a last wk at VZW b4 it was wisked away on its tour.. phenominal.. little smaller than expected but hands down the best phone on the US market.. even running beta it shamed the iphone though the screen seemed a bit smaller.. much more vivid though.. The click is a cool idea too, worked well.

Nice way to completely undermine your whole comment.

It’s called needs and wants and it applies to everything - so NO SUCH THING AS BEST.
