Blackberry Curve 8900 approved by FCC
For those of you getting antsy for the Curve 8900 / Javelin, it’s just a small matter of time now. Earlier today, we mentioned that this new Berry has already hit Germany and we’re now getting word that it has gotten the seal of approval from the FCC. We already know it’s going to be hitting both AT&T and T-Mobile, so none of you GSM folks have to feel left out that one is getting a sweet device and the other isn’t (Bold). Exactly when it’s coming isn’t for certain, but rumor has it that T-Mobile is hoping to get the 8900 out as early as Black Friday. We’d say you shouldn’t keep your hopes up that high, but at least take some comfort in knowing you should be getting it before AT&T does. Our first impressions of this device have been really good so far so we’ll keep you guys updated!

kickstar you have no idea what you’re talking about. ATT will get the device first, I know this for a fact. Why would a company release this device to Tmobile knowing that ATT accounts for more than 2/3 blackberry smartphone sales in the US. If you need more proof look at the evaluation units branded ATT on gizmodo, tmobile has not even started its testing phase yet. ATT curve 8900 is boxed and ready to go but ive yet to see a tmobile branded box/phone at the factory
You are probably right about the bottom line that AT&T gets it before T-Mobile, but that doesn’t mean T-Mobile hasn’t started testing it yet. T-Mobile probably started testing it simultaneously to AT&T, some months ago, but T-Mobile has one differentiating wrinkle on top of AT&T’s version, and that’s the UMA software. As a result, T-Mobile’s testing is taking 1-2 months longer. AT&T may get this one by December 1, whereas T-Mobile may be closer to February 1.
You are incorrect about the processor vs. the Bold. Bold has a 20% faster processor than 8900. You are right about the RAM (8900’s 256 vs Bold’s 128), but also keep in mind that the Bold has 1 gig worth of on-board storage, which 8900 entirely lacks.
att get the bold and the jav. competing on the same network. i don’t know. dont forget that tmo serve 120 million worldwide. i think it makes better marketing sense to give each carrier a slice of the pie. storm vzw. bold att and jav to tmo. bb214. which factory are u talking about. does the factory serve both tmo and att device?
I’m on board for a Tmo release. Sucks that I just had to replace my old curve because I lost it. So I will be getting this later than expected.
Without 3G, the Bold looks like a better fit for me than the 8900 on AT&T. Loading speed is a big pet peeve for me, and 3G is arguably faster (not much), but faster.
One Storm comment too, don’t like having a Sure-Type keyboard that I have to turn horizontially to get the full version. Just my 2 cents. The device looks cool though for mutimedia, etc.
8900 will not come out by black friday, just confirmed. Tmobile will get it after AT&T,that is fact just wait and see. Im just telling you what I see in the factory
Ahhh you try again… Tmobile USA will have this first. And I have that on Good authority. Tmob customers keep and eye out for Jan 09
Does this mean AT&T is skipping the 8320? Would rather wait for the 8900 but that blue 8320 was kinda nice looking.
Not everyone cares about 3G, it drains the batt life big time. At&t wined to RIM to make the Bold bc they want all 3G devices going forward. Sure they will carry this one too bc its out there and available. Not everyone has $399 to drop on a BB and get a $100 Att shit bag gift card. I prefer the 8900 size to the Bold and will pick this up (yes i passed on the Bold), I have a Powerbook G4 with a 3G aircard, I carry a Lenovo with one too, why would I give a shit about internet on a phone? 3G will be great when battery life and coverage is increased, until then, who gives a shit, if the phone and email work, tu chez…
@ JB
Excellent post. I only give a shit to shove the speed in front of my iphone mad brother, who sleeps with that apple.
nice i hope at&t does get it im due for an upgrade in feb, and i would love to have gps and wifi i dont care to much for 3G its never going to come to my little po-dunk town i live in. im pimpin a 8310 with the bold theme yeah thats right @!!!!!
DOn’t get this phone unless you really love black berry!!!!!!!!!!! Just in!!!!! The G2 code name sapphire major simularities to the Touch HD. THis time it’s not photo shopped cause there’s no picture. Check out phongdog.com for more info!!!!!

Well if we go by the BB Bolds schedule, with a release date 5 months after FCC approval, we should see the 8900 sometime in April.
Not only has the quality of the writing/articles declined here, but apparently so has the readership.
When have you *EVER* seen a BB on TracFone?
“Will T-mo sell this unlocked? Is the Bold locked?” LOL. Sad quesions indeed…
@JaggedXJ: It’s obvious that many readers of this site don’t have a lot of technical knowledge, but your negative, antagonistic attitude certainly isn’t elevating any standards here. I’d rather read lame questions than your condescending mockery.
I signed a 1 year contract on my 8300 in january, i really hate it for some reason, im phsyced that the 8900 should be out in time for me to upgrade, and they might even work out some of the “newly released blackberry bugs”. its totaly changed my perception of BlackBerry all together
When is this phone coming out? Haven’t heard anything in awhile. Anyone hear anything?
T-Mobile USA probably early February. AT&T probably before February. T-Mobile Germany about a month ago. Rogers/Canada officially today.
When this one finally hits T-Mo US, it’ll be the reason to use my upgrade for the first time in years. Due to the lack of power in other T-Mobile ‘Berries, i’ve avoided them thus far. Frankly unlocked/euro phones are loosing their appeal to me… They always seem to fight with T-Mo’s data network.
…with no privacy!
5.5hrs talk
15 days standby
yea!…AT&T sux!!!!!!!
i believe if their customers want it, the carrier should offer it, no matter what!
Exclusivity, limits potential sales for manufacturers.
