Blackberry Curve 8900 approved by FCC

For those of you getting antsy for the Curve 8900 / Javelin, it’s just a small matter of time now. Earlier today, we mentioned that this new Berry has already hit Germany and we’re now getting word that it has gotten the seal of approval from the FCC. We already know it’s going to be hitting both AT&T and T-Mobile, so none of you GSM folks have to feel left out that one is getting a sweet device and the other isn’t (Bold). Exactly when it’s coming isn’t for certain, but rumor has it that T-Mobile is hoping to get the 8900 out as early as Black Friday. We’d say you shouldn’t keep your hopes up that high, but at least take some comfort in knowing you should be getting it before AT&T does. Our first impressions of this device have been really good so far so we’ll keep you guys updated!

if t-mo USA starts throwing these out for (almost) free on a new contract / contract renewal like they are across the pond then RIM will be making a crap-ton of money off of this one.

If T-mobile gets it out on black Friday, I would assume AT&T will get it out at least by Christmas. If not sooner.

Will the trackball be changed? I have been waiting for the 8900 since March. I can’t wait to back to a full QWERTY board. I have the Pearl 8120.

@ Oliver: the trackball on the 8900 is the “atomic” trackball, which is black and supposedly doesn’t get as dirty or gum up as badly as previous trackballs.

Regardless, lack of 3G really is a deal-killer for me. I wonder how many more of these they’d sell if the radio were tri-band HSPA as well? Makes me wonder if they’re making sure this doesn’t compete with the Bold.

I like how they shortened the aA keys making it easier to find the ALT key. I find I use the alt key way more than aA…Too bad its not going to verizon…oh wait we get the STORM! ha!

This phone is sweet! I wish it did have 3G but I personally think its better than the bold. Whatever one comes out first the storm or the javelin is going to get my business, 3G or not!

Just be patient…verizon will get their curve update in May of 2009. I know its a long wait, but I guess thats the price we pay for having the best service in the states.

Tmobile will not get this phone till Q1 of 2009. Im 100 % certain of that. Att will be getting it first, evaluation units are already out. At the factory ive yet to see a tmobile USA branded unit but ive seen plenty of AT&T ones ready to go

Unfortunately, T-Mobile’s 8900 won’t hit until mid-January at the earliest. It’s possible that AT&T may be in December, but I really don’t know. There are some signs to the effect that AT&T could have an early December launch, but don’t bet too much on it.

Like others, no 3G is a deal breaker. In this day and age no smartphone should be without it. However RIM has it’s reasons not including 3G in this one, most likely because it’d be a direct competitor with the Bold. Honestly if Both had 3G I’d go for the curve. But hey that’s just my opinion.

why would they put more ram and a better processor in the curve and not the Bold? and not include 3G with the curve? it doesn’t make sense…whats that extra power for if its a ‘weaker’ phone compared to the flagship Bold? anyone know???
