Full details on the Verizon Wireless Nationwide Connect Plan

Listen up, Verizon folks! Your carrier (or soon to be carrier if this news sways you) will soon be offering the Nationwide Connect Plan that has been passed around the rumor mill lately. As of November 16, VZW will be releasing the plan which includes unlimited data and email, unlimited messaging (SMS and MMS) and unlimited mobile-to-mobile and night/weekend minutes. This is similar to the “all-in” plans offered by other carriers and will only apply to dumbphones. Still, it’s not a bad deal if you have an LG Voyager, Dare, Samsung Glyde and so forth. We have the pricing plans and from the looks of things, we don’t see why any VZW customer without a smartphone wouldn’t jump on this. Also as of November 16 for all you travel bugs, if you sign up for VZ Navigator at $9.99 a month you will receive one month free, whether you’re a new or existing customer. For more details on the rate plans and the official letter sent out to Verizon peeps, hit the jump!

    Son I think you better read the peice again. These new plans can NOT be put on with a smart device. You need to read before you start to call people names and maka ars out of yourself.

    NO did you not read………DUMBPHONES

    Read second paragraph from the bottom. Joe you are a moron, obviously you did not read or else you would not be telling others to learn to read. That paragraph I am referring you to CLEARLY states that all smartphones yes ALL of them will require a data plan of at least $29.99

    Second of all Joe, why would Verizon release an internal document as the one shown when (if what you say is true and i know it’s not) it’s not at all the intention that they have with the plans?

    Can your “inside source” answer that one?

    Of course this applies to both…which is why the memo specifically addresses PDAs/smartphones separately. You don’t have sources, you just can’t read.

    Dumbass.

    Just a bit curious here…I have a blackberry8130 with VZW, my monthly bill comes to be higher than my roomies and he has unlimited messaging, unlimited data, and the same voice plan I have. Why is my data plan more expensive? I was under the impression that the bberry data plans were more expensive through verizon. Also, hate to break it to ya but when I purchased my blackberry i was told (this was in march of this year) that ALL smartphones sold by verizon required a $29.99 data plan. Why the uproar about 11/14? I though this was standard practice already for verizon?

    You may have been misled or misheard about the smartphone stuff. All Blackberry devices are required to have a $29.99 data plan. All other smartphone were eligible for a pay as you go OR a data plan. 11/14 will required all newly launched smartphones to be on a data plan of at least $29.99. (There will probably be a post about that shortly)

    As far as your plan, you might want to make sure you are on a $29.99 data plan, the rep may have put a corporation provisioning on your line which goes for $44.99. Nearly identical plan but the $44.99 enables you to get on a BES server, the $29.99 does not.

    Those bastards….JK, you’re probably right on that one I will definitely have to look into that. My friend Had a motoQ and they wouldn’t let him ditch the data plan, on the other hand this chick I knew went to a mom and pop verizon (not the corporate) shop and used her skills (aka flirted) and got them to drop the data off of her plan. I agree that a smartphone w/o a dataplan ia kind of a waste, but what I don’t understand is why no longer give the customer the option. When I had (keyword being had) the iphone, At&t let me drop the data plan. A very happy VZW customer now, just don’t understand the lack of compromise on their part.

    Reading the beginning statement it’s for “dumb phones”. I have a Centro and it would be an additional $30 for my line to add data and email.
    I bought (2) centros about 3 months ago and PAYG…I assume I am “grandfathered” in on the “pay as you go” plan?

    @mike

    i don’t think the “grandfather” thing even applies here because it’s for all smartphones that are launched after 11/14.

    GetOverIt says:

    Tony, it looks as though you got the same information i did with the 11/14 launch. I got an email stating the data plan would only be required on pda’s launched after 11/14. I contacted a source directly from Verizon and said it will be required on all smartphones no matter what.

    Smartphones previously on pay as you go data plans will be able to keep that as long as there are no changes to your account ie. esn changes, price plan changes, or even feature changes will cause the automated data feature on there.

    @bdizzah

    Actually Verizon is compromising if you look at it from their perspective. They calculated an average data use on customers that are on PAYG which actually came out to around $30. PayG data resulted in many many credits given out each month from the customers that “never use that” but still somehow get charged for the data. So pretty much what they are doing is eliminating the customer service nightmares caused by SOME of the PAYG users, that call in every month because they are being charged data when they claim to never use it.

    All in all it will be a good thing for probably 95% of users with the other 5% are actually responsible PAYG users will unfortunately have to suffer.

    Joe gets your facts right…. I work for VZW and O have taken a few trainings on this. it is only for dumb phones…. hence mobile web 2.0. There is no way that they would make a plan that is $10 more than a select plan, when they are making it mandatory to have a $29.99 data plan on any PDA starting 11/15. It makes no sense at all that a blackberry with unlimited data and text would be $69.99. They have had a plan like this for PDA for ages…. used to be called the CORE plan… just making it more streamed lined for non-pda devices…..

    SO JOE… please go into a VZW store and ask for a connect plan with your new BB Storm and you will look the millions of other stupid customers asking another stupid question

    This is right in line with what Alltel is ALREADY doing! I guess they’re just priming me up to jump ship to Sprint once the merger/take-over happens. The nation’s best network comes with a high price tag.

    The Dude says:

    Here is the story. These new plans are for ‘dumbphones” only, as it says in the release document. Any new upgrade to a smartphone or any new line starting with a smartphone must have at least the $29.99 plan after 11/14, not just the new devices that are coming out but your new device. Lastly, ask about corporate discounts. Many companies have profiles with VZW. They can give you discounts on both voice and data.

    Question… (i know i could call & ask customer service, but don’t feel like wasting 10 min on hold waiting for an associate) I just got this connect plan, i have a dumbphone & use mobile web alot. Prior to this plan i had mobile web for $5/month & to conserve minutes i would only use it when minutes were free (nights & wknds) Do i understand correctly that with the connect plan, i can now use mobile web whenever without using minutes? Also how’s the mobile e-mail different then simply signing into your e-mail accounts when your on the web? i asked the associate in the store & i guess he didnt know the answer, because he said “it’s not the same thing”, but he didnt explain what’s the difference.
