Verizon Wireless Blackberry Storm to retail for $219 with a 2 year contract
The Blackberry Storm hit the Verizon Wireless staging testman website with pricing and details! It’s coming in about where we expected – $219 with a 2 year contract, $289 with a 1 year contract and whopping $519 for full retail. Remember, this is just the staging site so it’s entirely possible that things will change. In fact, the price does not include any rebates or New Every Two discounts so the final price out the door on the launch date will surely be lower. Sweet! Unfortunately, the page does not contain a release date but we expect a formal announcement from Verizon very soon now that it’s up on the test site. Check out the read link to see for yourself (enter 85001 as your zip) and hit the jump for some more screen shots showing the 1-year and full retail pricing.
Thanks, Matrix 2004!

@ likeabite:
Lets se there are lies more lies and then there is likeabite!
As I said many times and you already know I am a Verizon customer. What makes you the authority of other people’s opinions?
If you do not think what YOU did was not attack on someone that was not even speaking to you, there is a serious problem in the empty space between your ears with the glued BB on one!
Is this the only place where you can somehow feel important? Forcing you stupid comments on people do not make them listen.
You absolutely attacked the guy as you did me and many others on here. You are an ass.
@ likeabite:
So according to you, only 1 percent of 80 million people travel? Wow that is fantastic so ONLY 1 percent of one quarter of all Americans travel according to you? Very scientific, HAHA
Love to know how you came up with that genius!
@ Geewiz:
likeabite, often quotes invisible stats so he can try and prove some ridiculous point when he is in attack mode. He hopes you might be dazzled with all his brilliance so you will not notice what he is saying is actual crap. Like no one needs WiFi, no matter what Verizon charges it is cheap, or no apps-no problem. The list seems endless.
He lives on this blog so he can do this. I think he should start his own blog with all his scary knowledge. Except few would read his ti-raids based on his opinions. Maybe he should just work for RIM or VZW, maybe he already does and gets his BB and phone for free!
nice. great price for what looks to be the best touch screen yet. can’t wait
Why are you all arguing about the merits of this fake price?
dude. Paul….chill. The Storm is jam packed full of stuff that no other phone offers in entirety. It has mms, (when a certain other “God phone” doesn’t) it has a video camera, it has expandable memory, it basically has a flashlight (sorry, its just so freakin cool). When you have the entire package EXCEPT for wi-fi, not really a deal breaker. Especially when you have 3G. Have you ever compared 3G against wi-fi? Not really a big difference when your doing web browsing. And the 220 price when you are probably getting a mail in rebate, is freakin amazing. Take your negative attitude elsewhere. This site is for lovers of technology.
makes it hard to enjoy websites like this when people attack each other. (btw thanks BG for all the updates, I check the site a million times a day) have fun knowing the shit other people don’t, don’t be a bunch of pansies about who can point out flaws better.
I think I will use my upgrade for the Storm. No wifi? No big deal for me. I remember when I got the Samsung i760 b/c I thought having wifi would be great. I barely used it (the wifi that is). Also, do any of you realize that using a wifi receiver will reduce the battery life of a phone? Personally, I care more about my phone’s talking and standby time than the fact that I can use wifi. Also in my experience it’s more reliable to use the data plan b/c most places I go don’t have wifi (including while on the road).
@BG or Kelly
Will you please update this so people stop arguing about a fake price. At least mention that its info is that of the 8830. I usually enjoy reading the comments, but people are once again jumping the gun with a bunch of nonsense.
First of all, the price isn’t going to be 219.99. Just like everything else on the page, it is a PLACE HOLDER. To be honest, I can’t even believe Kelly posted this. It is pretty much pointless.
After all the “tips” I’ve read about people sending in (that are waaaay more interesting than a blank site with the name of a phone on it), they choose to post this, a test site of nothing.
“Remember, this is just the staging site so it’s entirely possible that things will change.”
But of course it is going to change considering nothing on this page is about the Storm.
@Hefavitzen
“Ugh…I was really hoping for $99.00”
Hahahahaha – are you serious? Please tell me you were just joking. One of BlackBerry’s most anticipated handsets and first EVER touch screen and you were hoping for $99.00? Sorry, that’s just not going to happen – ever. Maybe you should just stick with the RAZR (which by the way, if you get the v9 from AT&T, happens to be $99.99 AFTER a $100 MIR – initially making it $199.99 due at the time of purchase – just think about that for a second).
@keymaker
“I’ll say it again, No WiFi No deal, it’s a really nice phone to bad verizon had to F*ck it up.”
Okay, if you’ve said it once, is it really required that you say it again – and again? I’m sure by now we are ALL aware that it doesn’t have Wi-Fi, just like we are ALL aware that the iPhone lacks a few things some people think to be a necessity. GET THE HELL OVER IT! If you MUST HAVE Wi-Fi, don’t get the Storm. If you must have picture messaging and e-mail, don’t get the iPhone. It’s as simple as that. Everyone has their own wants and needs. Not every phone can come equipped with every option. You whining and complaining is not going to change the fact that it doesn’t have it.
Keep in mind: The Storm is a is a quad band phone, with 3G, HSDPA, GSM, and EDGE and that it supports the fastest GSM networks (UMTS/HSDPA) on the 2100-MHz band. It has voice coverage in over 200 countries and data coverage in over 150. It’s not like VZW left out the entire world and said screw you all.
If you don’t like Verizon, make it easier on all of us, and switch to a different carrier. VZW doesn’t have your hands tied behind your back.
@Paul
I’ve asked you this before, please explain to me – how is Verizon the “most expensive carrier”? C’mon – enlighten me.
And if it is, then why in the hell do you have it? Does that make any sense? Why the hell would you praise the iPhone, down Verizon like it just ran your dog over – yet still have that carrier?
You say you have Verizon and you say Wi-Fi is a MUST – I’m not seeing how those two fit. Makes me wonder which phone you have…
@GeeWiz
“Why don’t you lend us the money so when we get ripped off we do not feel so bad?”
I’m going to put you in the same boat as Paul and keymaker and send you on your way.
Ya’ll keep talking about how expensive VZW is, how they “neuter” their phones and how you are getting ripped off. I’ll say this one more time – SWITCH CARRIERS!
There is no law stating you have to have Verizon. There are plenty of other carriers that are obviously “cheaper” and offer “better” phones. Go to them. They would be happy to have you. And if you don’t have Verizon then why are you irritating the rest of us with your nonsense? If it doesn’t affect you, why bother?
@UnBias
Finally, someone that can think clearly and have a rational opinion b/c they don’t have their head up their ass. Thank you.
Sorry for the harshness and the cynicism, but come on guys.
What if I alraedy have Verizon service and just got a phone and want to upgrade,,,do I have to pay full retail price or is there a way around that?
@Erik R
If you just got a new phone then yes, you’ll have to pay full retail. Now, if you got the phone you have now within the last 30 days and wanna try the loop hole of returning it within your gauranteed time to get this one – depending where you got it – you MAY be able to do that. I know here we would have to acknowledge the 30 day return policy.
However, if you’ve had it for more than 30 days but less than your contract is for, full retail is prolly what you’re stuck with.
Main competitor to this is the iPhone, so the price will be in that ballpark, after rebates. If an iPhone runs $199 cash out of pocket, then the Storm will be close OUT OF POCKET and net of rebates. Heard this from several Verizon reps. Although they did not know the exact numbers, iPhone pricing kept coming up as the reference point. IMO, the only way this phone will be significantly less than $199 out of pocket will be to those who can use New Every Two money.
I have the LG Dare and I have had it for about 3 months now
I thought maybe I could “renew” my contract and get a discount.
I’m almost positive that:
Paul = Keymaker = GeeWiz = hellno = onoshedidnt = Bob
The same repeated rants, on and on and on…same words, writing style, and errors.
Will be interesting to see what the actual pricing will be on the release date…but $219 is certainly in the ballpark I was expecting on a 2 yr. $199 would be a good price to market (iPhone, crappy economy), but I’m sure $20 isn’t going to deter many if they stayed at $219. I like the 1 yr. plan/price myself. I like the flexibility of leaving or switching phones. Ya just never know…
@Erik R
Unfortunately no. Sometimes they make exceptions and let people early upgrade shortly before their actualy upgrade date, but you are a ways away from that even if you were only locked into a 1 year contract.
On the brightside, at least you are stuck with a good phone until then. The Dare is one of my favorites.
JustMe, you forgot to say something about me… you got almost everyone else!
but I agree with you completely on all of those morons.
My firm released a statement saying that the storm will be available for order through the corporate website on 11/24!

Why the fuck don’t you stick a sock in it already. You think there is ONE person in the whole forum who is not a VZW fanboy like you? They sound the same because they have to same opinions.
@1% of 80m people travel overseas!!!! Laughable. Why don’t you do some real research before you shoot off your mouth. According to The Economist, approx 34% of all Americans over the age of 18 have a passport. 34% of 80 million is 27.2 million. So you have nearly 30 million potential travelers overseas that would be VZW customers.
If you just want to make up statistics, 99.9% of the people in forum believe you are a moron. How’s that?
That last bit was directed @Likeabite, just to clarify…
@ Paul…why are you always crying every single time I make a comment? LMAO grow up buddy it’s not even that serious…I can’t even reply to anyone’s comments without you jumping in as their ultimate defender…attacking the guy would be if i called him a name, if I told him his statement was stupid or even I was being condescending in any manner. I wasn’t…I simply just told him my opinion was different from his. That had NOTHING…and i repeat NOTHING to do with you so where are you coming from crying again like always? As JustMe told you, if you hate Verizon so much then switch and stop bitching. You can avoid all this angst you have built inside you if you go to anothr carrier you know, the world will not end. And Verizon certainly won’t collapse if you leave. And as evidenced by all the people who’ve responded to you already you’re not liked every much so I think you shouldn’t visit BGR anymore lol.
@ GeeWiz you’re a foolish human being. When I made the 1% statement I wasn’t being statistical but rather focusing on what someone said about traveling outside of the US…and in that respect only about 1% of people would actually care about the use of Wifi to go on the internet or to tether and whatnot to the point where it is a deal breaker for them. As Paul continues to point out Verizon only has one Wifi phone and so far they are America’s biggest wireless carrier. Obviously the lack of Wifi has not stopped people from signing up with them or leaving in droves. Not even Paul’s almighty iphone has stopped them from losing enough customers where it is a problem. Now if you want to talk about real stats then let’s. How much does the bold cost? How much does the 6800 cost on Verizon? How much does the 6900 cost on Verizon? None of these phones are below $200 with a two year contract stupid so how is me saying $220 for the first ever touchscreen blackberry bad? The 6800 is $350 with a two-year contract. Even the Treo 700w is $300 with a two-year contract so how the hell does their newest flagship phone being $220 a bad thing? Unless you have sense I guess you cannot comprehend such matters.
@ JustMe funny how Paul still has not addressed what you told him from posts weeks ago, lol.
@keymaker: I agree no wi-fi is a bummer. But VZW is offering a $70 global data plan so you won’t get screwed on data charges when outside the US – unlike what AT&T does to iPhone users.
Data charges aren’t my concern for lack of wi-fi. I’d like to have it so I can use the web on flights. A Storm is the perfect size to leave my tray table free for food & drink while surfing the web. I guess I will have to carry my iTouch on the plane – drain its battery instead of my Storm.
For me the lack of wi-fi is far from a deal breaker. There are so many great features of the Storm over my other favorite, the iPhone, that I don’t think twice about the lack of wi-fi.
@mr.sassy: If you are getting the same speeds with wifi as you do with 3G, you need either a different device or a different wifi location. Underpowered devices, like the BB Curve or 8800 series have very poor processors, so wifi is useless on those devices because the processor can handle to fast rendering. If you use a device with a processor that has a higher processor speed, like in the 5-600mhz range, you will defiantly notice the difference.
@ EvilHomer
I apologize for forgetting…
Paul = Keymaker = GeeWiz = hellno = onoshedidnt = Bob = EVILHOMER
Again…sorry for leaving one of your other multiple personalities out of the equation.
I will agree though that even at $219, this phone would be a bargain. Some of the people crying need to realize that this device isn’t a low end flip phone. If $220 is out of your price range, you probably aren’t really the base RIM customer and should look at a Dare or Envy.
