Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1a hitting Best Buy next month

Thanks to our Best Buy ninjas, we’ve just got some screen shots showing that Sony Ericsson’s X1a (North American model) will definitely be hitting best buy early next month. The actual in stock date as of now is December 7th. The price? It will sell for a whopping $799.99. Hey, with Circuit City pretty much on the outs, and Best Buys placed directly across the street in most locations… aw, nevermind! Who’s excited? We are! Larger shot after the jump!

That’s too expensive! The AT&T Fuze is a better deal. Same specs.
WTF, 700 smackeroos for a fricking phone.
Not worth it!!
yeah thats just ridiculous! are people really flockin to bestbuy to buy these insanely high priced phones? 800 bucks for a its just nuts in my opinion.
Don’t you mean they’ll be asking $799 but probably won’t be selling many at that price.
they are going to have to do something about that pronto if they want to sell any of those. I’ve been waiting for the u.s. version of this phone for some time now in all its fish icon finger following goodness but 800.00 + tax is outrageous. I was hoping somebody like t-mobile would pick it up & subsidise the price but I see they didn’t. smh ………..
Holy craps that’s a lot. Any idea if it’s going through a carrier eventually? Even still, I don’t see AT&T eating 4-500 to get it at a reasonable price.
Why can’t these guys learn – the iPhone’s $199 changed the game yo. Eat the upfront costs and make it back on data.
Who cares, it took so long for that phone to reach the wild that it’s not even that special anymore.
Out of date.
$800?!?!?!?! Holy Hell!!! Is this thing REALLY worth 4 iPhones?
it’s not 4 iphones if you’re getting them without a contract. Not even 2 iphones at that because this is without contract…it’s still beaucoup bucks though…insane.
$700 – $800 is the going cost at BB right now for unlocked pda phones such as the Fuze/Touch Pro, etc. Assuming it gets picked up by a US carrier you should see a cost around $300 – $400 with a 2-year plan commitment.
as nice as the phone is, and i do admit i would love to have it, id rather stay with verizon, get an omnia or a touch pro, and save about 5 to 6 hundred dollars!
I’ve paid 800 for a Nokia communicator before because I REALLY wanted it & no one else had anything like it. BB is not stupid, they know there are people like myself who want to have the phone no one else has & are will pay top $$ to get it. Not saying they will sell alot at the price point, but more than enough to eat beluga caviar & then some.
^^^Agreed. The same goes for when I purchased the Sony Clie UX50 because no one else had it. It’s still crazy money though but to each it’s own. It’s a great niche phone to have.
It is unlocked and Unbranded. Hundreds are buying it in Europe stores & On-line stores for that and more.
i want SILVER!!
i currently have X1i in black, black is so boring! i only buying if it’ in SILVER!
@pinguino
Yeah “hundreds” maybe even thousands….but this phone should be sellings millions! If it was priced below $500 it would prolly fly off the shelves.
And I do agree that this phone is a little outdated now that its taken so long to get released
Wait, this phone weighs 1.7lbs?
The $800 question (surprised no one has mentioned it yet, actually) is: Does “North American version” mean it will include 1700/2100 bands to support Tmobile 3G? or should it more correctly be called the “AT&T version?”
If anyone truly knows…please share!
Tri-band HSPA X1a:(850/1900/2100 MHz)
Quad-band EDGE (850/900/1800/1900 MHz)
the white paper at https://developer.sonyericsson.com/getDocument.do?docId=100340 gives you all the info.
thats actually cheap for a phone wid this specs
Guys – sign up with ATT – 2 year contract – get a touch pro – unlock it – sell it on ebay for a touch below the going price – throw the cash into the Experia (may cost a bit extra) but certainly not $800
Ok, maybe I’m just cheap (althought bought my 8330 Curve at full price to avoid extending my contract) but why is it that cell phones now cost more than laptops? Sure smaller circuitry, actual connection without wires, but let’s be honest, with as many phones that are sold, there is no reason for the devices to cost this much. I’m sure R&D, network maintenance, associate salaries, and CEOs that have pockets need to be lined comes at a cost but the greed needs to stop. The phones are bought in bulk so they’re already discounted, R&D costs should mostly be covered from previous phone sales and monthly charges. It needs to be one or the other, cheaper phones or cheaper service. I feel like a chinese finger cuff with the provider on one side and the phone maker on the other and they won’t stop pulling!
^^^You make perfect sense…phones really should not be that much no matter the specs…just ridiculous…laptop specs are way higher and a lot cheaper.
The iPhone/every other phone is 200≤ dollars W/ —”"”CONTRACT”"”—.
Please realize like the Touch Pro it’s gonna sell at the same price bracket as demonstrated by European prices.
Furthermore, the white papers have not included the recent revisions and isn’t as accurate (May).
Oh, btw, this the box dimension.
