This seems like a nice option, to me.

Having paid for Vcast, in the past, I’d opt for this if I were a dumbphone user. Vcast videos are useless, but being able to knock five bucks off and still get unlimited web use would be worth it.

Hmmm.. sounds like a good idea to me. The more options the better. You can go with 5 bucks and have it take away from your minutes (which is good for those who don’t use all of their minutes), 10 bucks for avid net surfers that don’t need everything VCast VPak offers, OR the whole sha-bang for 15 bucks.

Customers like having their options and it seems like this would give them all the options they need.

The connect plan is between the select and prem plan. it is $10 more than select and $10 less than prem. 2ndry lines can either be $9.99 like norm w/ unlimited txt or $19.99 which includes unlimited data and mobile e-mail. you can mix and match your 2ndry lines. and if on the prem plan then 2ndry lines can be 9.99, 19.99, or 29.99, and will be either select, connect, or prem, respective to price. the connect plan gives unlimited data, mobile e-mail, unlimited txt/pix

StevenG, cell phone companies are hurting? You must have Sprint! Did you read the 3rd Q releases for VZW or AT&T? These guys are not hurting. Show me others that have that customer growth and YOY profit increases. Geez man, get a clue. This is another option for customers and could generate additional data revenue. For non-pda users, this is a great option.

that is not entirely true about requiring to update your plan if you get a new phone. There are a few phones that do require the change to the nationwide pricing, but not ALL do.

I think this is a pretty good move by Verizon though. Should go over better with customers when they are required to get that unlimited data plan for $10 instead of $15

Wow, could we say “Hater”?

This is just another option for customers who don’t use all of vcast but still want internet. Nothing major. I wouldn’t doubt it if AT&T were to do something simalar to thier “Media Net” option here shortly.

This is not proof of a company hurting Financially. They are LOWERING Data prices.

that $5/month web plan that used airtime minutes was great on nights and weekends because the minutes were unlimited!

Doesn’t really matter as that old plan is gone. If buy a new phone, you are forced to upgrade to the newer plans which measures your data usage per MB instead of per minute.

The problem with the $5/month web plan was that you were charged airtime. And back in the day plans were not as generous with minutes as they are now. Even moderate users could see themselves with $5+ overage charges in a month. This won’t affect me as I’m a devoted Blackberry user, but this would fare well for many Verizon customers.

its definitely BS, if you have the premium plan you wouldn’t have to add vcast or mobile web because it’s all included. It looks like the Giz tipster doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

Mobile web only used to cost $5 a month and still does for people on old phone plans. Problem is every new phone on the network (minus PDA’s) forces you to join their new plan so they can get more out of you.
