New Verizon BlackBerry Storm commercial airs
If that last ad left you wanting to punch the TV screen, this one should help calm you down a little bit. It doesn’t offer much in terms of new content, and the device sequence is obviously edited to make it look smoother, but all in all, it’s a pretty decent ad. Favorite line? “What kind of Man Genius is behind this?” Damn, first AT&T, now Verizon ads… someone call Edelman. We need another publicist!
Thanks, Scott!

Did u say at&t coined the 3G term? Lol ok
Verizon claims to have the largest 3G network, but AT&T claims to have the fastest… anyone else notice that?
It’s a really nice phone but verizon has ask Rimm to cripple the device by not adding WiFi, No WiFi no deal i’ll say, WiFi is very important on any device you buy cause no cell network will even come close to WiFi speeds, 3G is fast but is it worth $30 a month? i don’t think so, AT&T has the fastest 3G, although verizon on the other hand has more coverage but anyways both are slow as hell, and that’s why again you need WiFi
@dante
Wow, you must be new. Apple was not the first to us the term 3G. Verizon has been referencing that term for a while. at least 3 1/2 years.
@ keymaker wi-fi/ only necesarry if ur network sucks.
(Or if u wanna voip
)
I have to agree with BG here, there’s no way the device moves that fast into landscape mode. Even the final release won’t move that fast. A smooth transition into landscaper mode after a couple of seconds, and I’ll be happy.
The commercial itself was alright. Personally, I thought the iPhone commercials were more effective and interesting.
But can’t wait to get my Storm!
@Steve Glansburg
Technically, both are right. Verizon’s network IS bigger. (much bigger in fact) Once they add Alltel, Verizon will easily have the most 3G coverage in the nation. On the other hand, AT&T’s network DOES have the fastest 3G, because UMTS is simply a faster data technology. EVDO Rev. A is close, but UMTS is still faster. (So fast, in fact, that its technically 3.5 G in many specifications)
@ Keymaker: I notice that many at&t users claim WiFi is crucial and how 3G is slow/sucks/unreliable.
I don’t hear VZW 3G users so angry at their network?
Perhaps its the quality or expansiveness of the 3G network used that can make a huge difference as to how much you depend on WiFi for faster data speeds?
I use T-Mobile so of course WiFi is crucial to us!
I’ve used Verizon’s network tethered to my laptop all over the nation (on a Rev.0 device mind you) and I never at any time felt it was at slow to do anything I wanted to get done.
I don’t see how i would ever need any more speed with a Rev. A device on a handset that is pretty limited in what you can do with it anyways. Normal web browsing should be near instant… and you should have no problems streaming video at more than usable quality.
As far as ATT’s network being faster?? Maybe in a lab (theoretical speeds) but all real world test show it to at best be the equal of Verizon’s. (If you can get coverage that is.) There is a reason ATT won’t let you tether with your iPhone and was afraid to unleash the Bold on its network.
Fuck all you fags who bitch about wifi fuck wifi 3g is just as fast even better for the fact that each wifi spots charges anyway so fuck that why should you have to be locked down like that that’s my opinion
Antman- fuck all you lttle bitches who bitch about us who bitch about wifi. Wifi is a huge convenience for those of us who travel a lot internationally. And have free wifi access abroad. I’m out of country twice a month and it saves me a lot of money in data charges.
@ antman – Is it not obvious? Why would they keep Wifi out the phone for any reason other than to make more money.
Dunno what it’s like in the States but there are plenty of cafes in Oz that have free Wifi, isn’t McDonalds going this way?
The convenience of both 3G and WiFi just makes sense.(to users)
@brum-most wifi hotspots want to charge for access. McDonalds was doing this, not sure if its free now or not. Starbucks, if you are an AT&T customer and have an iPhone or Bold I think it’s free.
still you are spot on. Verizon greed, plain and simple. Not knocking the Storm, I think it’s a great phone and I’d really like to get it, but lack of wifi just kills it for me.
@mangenius
The point I attempted to make was that At&t was the first carrier in the US to refer to its network as 3G. I never stated they created the term or launched 3G first.
@smknv8s
No, I’m not new here you fag. Verizon always referred to its network as Broadband not 3G. That is until the iPhone 3G came out.
Wifi,
Guys we really shouldn’t be arguing over wifi. For some people, there’s a benefit in having it, and for others, it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter for me because wifi uses up more battery life, and is not available in most places that I’d want to use it, and when it is available, most of the time that I’ve noticed, it’s not free anyway. However, I could see the benefit of having it as an option if you are in an area without adequate 3G coverage, but you have wifi, or even free wifi, it’s a good option to have. I’d even say it’s better to have the option to use wifi than not have the option at all. However, for me, it’s not a deal breaker at all considering what I said above.
When is the release date? LOL…I know I know….changes every day, but it doesn’t hurt to ask…
@ dante…the term 3G was being in the US used way before the iphone came out buddy…the only reason you’re saying that is because they actually attached that term to the phone name.
@ brum…how can Verizon make money off of keeping Wifi out of this device when you HAVE to get a data plan with it, with or without Wifi? I really wish you people had a clue before pressing on the keyboard. Whoever buys the device would pay for data whether it had Wifi or not and they did not even ask for this phone! I don’t know how many times this point has to be stressed that it was Vodafone and RIM’s creation and Verizon only got it because Vodafone owns a stake in Verizon. If you do not believe me then look at this new Storm video and the Vodafone guy will explain it to you.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fPlg4ofh_Q
Oh and to everyone else this video is probably the most recent of the Storm…look at it’s orientation and how fast it is now if the T3 one was not good enough for you. It’s not as instantaneous as the commercial but it is pretty fast.
Wifi necessary for many people, for some it’s not. It’s like air conditining in a car. If you live far North, you likely don’t need or it would use it enough to justify the expense. If you live in the South, it’s a must. For many people, wifi is a deal breaker regardless of the carriers network coverage.
I don’t care how wide spread for fast VZW’s broadband network it. Wifi is several times faster. Period. You VZW guys need to consider that, although YOU may not need it or care about it, many do. VZW seems to be the only carrier with a bug up it’s ass about letting devices keep it’s wifi radio. Why? If you have to have a data plan anyway to use the device, why not take a chill pill and keep the wifi?
It’s not just so that you can’t use data for free but also makes sure that you can’t use VOIP. You may be forced to take a data plan but they can only force so many minutes on you a month. If you have the capability to use VOIP on your mobile device, then some of us might be able to reduce the number of voice minutes we use each month. Some of you might live in the outskirts where free wifi is available but in the cites there is plenty.
Also, if you were able to use wifi, you wouldn’t eat into your LIMITED UNLIMITED data plans. VZW may give you the ability to tether your laptop, but remember that 5 gigs a month can be easily surpassed by heavy users. As for AT&T, the iPhone tethering is just around the corner.
Again, if VZW forces a data plan on you anyway, why not let the device have wifi? The arugment that you don’t need it is very weak since VZW does NOT have 3G coverage in every area of the world. Some need it and there is no good reason to leave it out for those who do.
@likeabite
Apparently you’re an idiot too. I never said the 3G term came with the iPhone3G. What I did say was that VERIZON WIRELESS didn’t start referring to its own network as 3G until AFTER the iPhone3G was released in July.
Yeah. As an old fart, I’ve been around for a long time and I never remember, until recently, VZW using the term 3G much. It’s always been the nations largest BROADBAND network. They don’t claim to be the fastest either. Good since HSPA is faster than EVDO Rev A. Rev A is currently maxed out now anyway, where as HSPA can go into the double digits I believe on download speed. That is why VZW is looking to LTE for faster speed.
I agree with Dante though. I think that VZW was afraid that since the iPhone was actually using 3G in it’s name that some people would believe that VZW wasn’t actually a 3G network. In the mobile world, 3G is a more recognized term than broad band. I think more people think of VZW’s broad band as the FIOS home service, which I’d give my left nut for.
Evilhomer = Paul = hellno = Bob = Schizophrenia
LOL…you’re a true whack job! Only you would bring up FIOS.
@bluehorseshoe:
You want to qualify how my equating FIOS with broad band makes me a whack job? And what does your first line mean? Are you posting for the understanding of the forum or just for your own amusement?
I’m equating you with the other ‘handles’ you use on this board. The same rhetoric under different names is just classic.

Um, you are an idiot. I use this and old this alias. In reality, some people feel the same way as I do. And I don’t believe that any of my states were rhetoric. I didn’t say anything negative about VZW at all.
What’s classic is some idiot like you assuming instead of having the facts.
Verizon Wireless does take heat on this blogsite for BlackBerry’s without WiFi, but AFAIK neither Sprint, US Cellular or Alltel do either. Even a GSM/HSPA provider like Vodafone isn’t putting it in either.
Perhaps there is more to this than we know? But of course we all like to pretend we work for VZW and know the reasons why they do what they do, right?
