Verizon Wireless Storm Challenge to hit Times Square in New York City
Remember that Blackberry Storm challenge that made its debut in San Francisco last week? The contest where participants stepped inside a giant replica of a Blackberry Storm and grabbed tickets that were blowing all around them. Well, that same Storm contest will be hitting New York City next week. Mark your calendar with the following information:
- WHEN: Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008 between 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.
- WHERE: Manhattan – Father Duffy Square. Located in the northern triangle of Times Square on Broadway between 46th Street and 47th Street
Participants will be eligible to win a BlackBerry Storm (with a $50 Verizon Wireless gift card for activation) and Bluetooth headsets. Unfortunately, the contest details don’t say how many Blackberry Storms will be given away but we assume it’s in line with the SF event. Either way, if you are in New York City on the 13th, make your way over to Times Square and try your hand at winning a free Blackberry Storm. If you go, don’t forget to send us some pix!

I’ll probably be late to work for this, lmao…already doing the Storm Hunt and now this…can’t wait!
Any chance of this coming to LA?
they do this in times square and the line will be crazyyyy long
^^^Jordan that’s the same thing I said…should’ve definitely picked a better location than a place where over one million people pass thru per day.
They should put up another one in a nondescript location for us locals. Its gonna be madness with idiot tourists. Put it in madison sq park so at least your guaranteed the best burger in the city, for a ridiculous wait in line.
ahmen to that. Even union sq would be a little better.
best shakes too in madison, but then again, the line for that place is probably just as long as the line for the storm
Yeah but when is this damn thing coming out? i hear rumors of a november 14th launch but verizon and blackberry are cutting it close with a release date if its true.
Im right there with with you. Though i think some of the tourists might be ineligible due to the fact they might not be US residents
Also best custards in Madison.
Is Verizon planing to sell Storms or just make peoples mouths water? They just push you around.
Okay.. so is there a really nice ‘none VZW customer’ who wants to stand in line and win one for me? lol
Does anyone know if they will actually be giving them to the winners, or just a nice picture and a “when we fix the software issues we’ll send you one”? I might consider waiting on line for a couple hours if I know I might be walking away with one, but otherwise I’d rather just pay the damn $200.00.
The posting for the San Francisco one said you don’t get it until they release the thing, not on the spot.
Good news is the costco verizon guy today said 11/16 is when they were told to start selling. So if that holds true then it will not be a long wait.
If it is like the storm hunt, when you win, you will basically get an IOU. I just won the storm hunt thing, and the guy that called said I will get the 50 dollar gift certificate in 2 weeks, and the phone sent in 4 to 6 weeks.
if it like the storm hunt, they will give you an IOU for the phone. I got a call today saying that I just won the storm hunt. The guy that called said that the $50 gift certificate will be in in like 2 weeks and the phone will be in in like 4 to 6 weeks.
They had this in Chicago Friday. Those of us that won basically got an “IOU” – we’ll only get the devices once they officially release it.
So the question is… what kind of problems is holding this thing up? did the curve have these problems too? Or is VZW just trying to make sure there’s no chance in hell you have fun with the damn thing?
I have two family memebers that work for VZW and they said the phone comes out 11-18. now they do expected this phone to sale out in less than a couple of hours so call early. also the were waiting on their employess to finish the training for the storm. its a lot of employees. this is what I heard.
Puff and the line will be gone, this is not the iPhone. Few people except crackberry and VZW fanboys really care.
“this is not the iphone” you are so right. This is a serious business tool, not a fun phone with music and video as the prime features. There will certainly be less of a demand because all the tweens & soccer moms that want iphones have no use for this device. Adults & business users, well that’s the target consumer for the Storm and they can’t wait to get one.
@ Stormy:
It is obvious that RIM and Verizon IS targeting the Storm directly at the same users as the iPhone! They copied all they could from the iPhone.
Are you already bracing us if the Storm fails against the iPhone? With no WiFi or apps it probably will.
@GeeWiz
Wow. It’s not an “iPhone Killer”
WiFi won’t make or break this device, it hasn’t on other Blackberrys
It’s a device that can be insured (not extended Wrnty), send/recieve picture msg (actual MMS), replace the battery without sending it in and have expandable memory. All features Buisness users could/would use. All feature the average Joe could use.
Oh wait that’s stuff the iPhone doesn’t have. How could they have taken it from Apple?
@ smknv8s:
Sure there was never a touch screen BB that had had a virtual keyboard that looked quite a lot like the iPhone. That was until Apple kicked their butt. Verizon is sure hoping it will help them against the iPhone.
RIM gave up their mechanical keyboard that was said to be the best and the iPhone would not compete with. The amount of sales and JD Powers latest study showed the keyboard did not matter.
But you are completely right… It is no iPhone killer. Especially without WiFi and games.
To win, make sure you are not the first in it.
Static electricity builds up and all the coupons get stuck at the top, and they forget to scrape them off, so just grab them off the ceiling.
I did it today, one ticket shy of winning it, shouldn’t have gone first, everyone after me figured out the trick.
GOOD LUCK! Hope you do better than me.
Best Buy Mobile will be there to hook up anyone who wants to pre-order a Storm for $50
@ GeeWiz…I’m amazed as how you can mention the term phone and right after that the only indications you allude to are Wifi and games. Umm I guess that’s what makes a phone right…and dropped calls and basic functions like being able to remove and replace your battery do not matter, correct? This is even aside from all the technical video recording, sms, cut and paste mess but if you are going to mention a phone don’t use external factors as an indication when the phone you are championing can’t even do the basic purpose of a phone. I’d really love to hear what you Storm haters would’ve had to say had the Storm come with Wifi…then it would’ve been something else that also wouldn’t matter that you guys would say makes the iphone better than it. Formulate better arguments and then try again.
