Live pics of the AT&T Quickfire

Well what do we have here? Live shots of AT&T’s upcoming answer to the T-Mobile Sidekick just came in courtesy of one of our ninjas and we thought we might as well share ‘em with you. We’ve all known the Quickfire has been in the pipeline for a while and last month we dropped the very reasonable official price point of $100 after MIR. For a 3G messaging machine with a sliding touchscreen, full QWERTY keyboard, a music player and GPS – $100 really isn’t bad at all. Of course that’s the 2-year contract price; a contract free version will run you $300 (still not terrible). The tentative release date according to the AT&T lineup document we showed you last month is next Tuesday, November 11, and it looks like we might be right on schedule. Hit the jump for plenty more poses, including a shot of the retail packaging.

    Yeah, that is pretty hot. Three hundred for a contract free phone is a sweet deal.

    Word! I agree with Kevin here.

    Plus the one thing I learned from AT&T’s Samsung Epix fiasco was to make sure to see if the phone IS touchscreen, then to see if indeed there does exist a proximity sensor.
    Otherwise your ear or cheek will be pressed against the screen (which will still be on) and you might accidentally press s’thing. Happened to me plenty of times (mute calls, cancelled calls, properties selected and changed) so I gave the Epix back.

    Further, I’d like to assume that it’s probably got the standard internet browser and a resistive touch-screen. So browsing wouldn’t be anywhere NEAR iphone smooth. Plus, what OS is it working with here? Just a proprietary company software with added AT&T junk?

    But then again, for a $300 phone, it’s got decent specs. The only shot it’s got for success, is to deliver adequate performance and not have many bugs/glitches. Also, is a data plan customary with this phone?

    That phone is thicker than my laptop! Hello, phone makers – it’s 2008 not 1998. If it’s thicker than .55″ then its too fucking thick!

    @Abhishek

    It might not be as smooth as browsing on the iPhone, might not crash as much as Safari though. It has MMS and video recording. So lets not nit pick.

    Pretty sure with at&t instant msg is based off SMS…

    If memory serves that is.

    Hi @ 1jaxstate1

    I guess you’re right. I’ll wait for the reviews on this thing before buying this for my nephew though.
    Something about buying new entrant phones from unknown makers….and my last gripe is, they should’ve at least tried for a 2mpx camera.

    @Abhishek…

    Only shot at success? Laughable.

    Try millions of tweens, teens and text happy adults who just want a fairly slick device to go crazy with text messaging on and have no need for any sort of smart phone.

    My guess is barring some big unforseen glitches, AT&T has got themselves a big winner here.

    FYI the touchscreen is terrible. It doesn’t use pressure which is weird. It is similar to the iPhone but not as responsive.

    I disagree!
    What you’ve given right now is the rosy rainbow-colored picture AT&T execs are hoping for. The timing, additionally, is quite decent…bringing it near christmas.
    However, I still stand by what I said. AT&T is releasing 4 phones primarily aimed at the texting consumer:
    Pantech Matrix, Samsung Propel, Pantech Slate and At&t Quickfire.

    With the competition, and with 3g being offered and the Quickfire being a touchscreen phone for this cheap, i’d assume Wi-fi has not been added to the phone specs. And since it’s boasting of 3G, a mandatory data plan would kill it.
    No data plan (and assuming wi-fi is unavailable), would make the 3G part worthless. Girls (teen and pre-teen girls are the biggest texters) typically like to carry sleeker, thinner phones and this phone seems to be on the bulky side. And when you compare it to the look and slim factor of the phones offered by Pantech as well as the Samsung entry, the bulk seems huge!
    A better mpx camera with flash would’ve still given it a good shot at success, but that’s also not applicable.

    Hence, I see the chances of the success of THIS device, slim.

    I’m pretty sure that it’s 56mm wide, not thick.

    Dimensions on this phone is 109×56x18mm

    I doubt it’s going to be 56mm thick and 18mm wide.(:

    @abhishek

    you make valid points, however the 3g is included in this “dumb” phone so the consumer can use the media net access to cruise on the web, watch Cellular Video, (not TV) and access their myspace/facebook pages and manage them on the go.

    Out of the four highly anticipated messaging devices being offered by att for the holidays this one is def the “high end” option, with the propel almost equal to it (depending on how you feel about touch vs. non-touch) then the matrix is another slight step down, followed by the “basic” pantech slate. Which at $50 after MIR, is pretty much a steal for just about any phone with a 1.3 mp shooter on a full QWERTY device.

    Ben says:

    Megapixels dont have nearly as much to do with Picture quality as many of you seem to think it does, a 2 megapixel camera (MP) will take a better picture than a 5 MP Camera depending on the lenses, put a carl ziess lens on a 2MP camera and it will be capable of taking some excelent pictures, put a plastic or low quality lens on a 5MP camera and the image will be bad, Megapixels are not the only factor that produce a decent image.
