Verizon Storm approximate pricing revealed from contest terms

The nation’s soon-to-be largest wireless carrier has inadvertently shed some light on one of the biggest questions on the minds of anxious Storm fans across the country. Thanks to the contest terms and conditions regarding Verizon’s BlackBerry Storm scavenger hunt taking place in New York, it looks like the Approximate Retail Value (ARV) is set at a relatively reasonable $499. To quote the terms exactly:

Prizes: Daily Grand Prizes (50): A BlackBerry “Storm” 9500 Smartphone and a $50 Verizon Wireless gift card Approximate Retail Value (”ARV”): $549 each

$499 of course represents the handset cost before any carrier subsidies or mail-in rebates are factored in. Once the Storm get its discounts on, it looks like we should be in store for a pretty competitive 2-year contract price. Sweet – now all we have to do is wait for VZW to, umm, actually release the phone. To check out the full terms for yourself, hit the read link and then click the NYC Storm Hunt link in the lower left corner.

    I just got off the phone with Verizon Customer Service regarding my bill. I asked her about the BB Storm release date, she put me on hold for about 5 minutes to find out because she had no idea what BB Storm is. She came back and told me that the release date will be mid november which is 11/15. I also asked her about the pricing, but she said they don’t have the pricing yet.

    Dang, and here I was hoping they would price it around $150 or less. Shit, if they put it at under a hundred, I know at least 20 people who would buy one for the holiday season.

    Where is everyone getting $299 from? In the terms and conditions for contest states:

    Prizes: Daily Grand Prizes (50): A BlackBerry® Storm™ 9500 Smartphone and a $50 Verizon Wireless gift card Approximate Retail Value (“ARV”): $549 each.

    From reading that the Retail cost sounds more like $499 minus the Gift Card. Although, $299 does sound alot better

    @SnackBerry

    Verizon definitely changed the fine print. It used to say ARV: $299 each.

    Sneaky bastards.

    Haha – I know what you mean, but it’ll be a cold day in hell when this phone is less than a hundred bucks. Not only is it a BB, it’s the first ever touchscreen BB.

    Wi-Fi is undoubtelly faster but Rev-Do shouldn’t be bad at all. Perhaps a minor difference but Wi-Fi will be faster.

    All I’m concerned now, since the STORM is what the IPhone wants to be when it grows up, is if the STORM app store will be anything like Apple’s app store. I’ve read reports where Apple app programers were hired by Blackberry to write apps for the STORM. I hope that’s true and if it is, IPhone is yesterday’s news.

    Saw that the Storm was released in England with a net cost of ZERO, after rebates!! Must be more competition to re-capture lost contracts, i.e. iPhone!!

    My first time to this site, was searching for the new BB Storm info. I agree with Man Genius…what a bunch of losers/whiners to be crying who gave the info “first.” Just the fact that there is info to give is helpful to the site. Boys…..sheesh. (rolls eyes)

    Wow, just touched a REAL blackberry Storm today and it is incredible! It is heavier than the other Blackberry’s Verizon has, but it melts like butter in your hands. Great feel! Just the look makes it appear to be a $600 phone but its not. High res screen, very cool clickable touch screen, 8GB card, and the GSM international sim card is included. BTW, i work for Verizon and we have another training tomorrow before the release date on Friday. You better pitch a tent Thursday night by your local Verizon dealer to get 1 on Friday:)
