Motorola ZINE ZN5 officially hits T-Mobile, paparazzi lose their jobs

There hasn’t been much doubt about Motorola’s MOTOZINE ZN5 hitting T-Mobile, but official confirmations are always a nice thing, no? Starting today, at select T-Mobile corporate locations and online, you’ll be able to pickup a Motorola ZN5 for yourself. A 5 megapixel camera phone is going to seriously hurt those pocket though, right? Normally we’d say yes, but T-Mobile looks to have subsidized the crap out of this thing (or Motorola’s just happy they have a carrier who’s willing to take their goods) as it’s going for only $99 on a 2-year agreement. Not bad at all we say. Here’s a quick spec refresher for you:
- 5 megapixel auto-focus Kodak camera with Xenon flash
- Wi-Fi
- Quad-band GSM/EDGE
- 350MB of internal memory, microSD expandable up to 4GB
- 3.5mm headset jack
- FM Radio
- TV-Out
- Stereo Bluetooth
- Built-in Kodak EasyShare software for instant Wi-Fi uploading to the web
We’ve given Moto their fair share of public beatings in the past, but we’re actually pretty impressed with the price-point here. We think this thing is going to fly off the shelves. What say you?

Unfortunately, it only supports 4 GB cards. Wish this type of camera was on the Touch Pro.
Wow, at that price, I’m impressed… Now you’ve gotta put it up against all the other camera phones and let them duke it out for the crown lol.
Zzzzzzzz. . .
For $99 this thing could be a serious hit. That price more than makes up for the lack of 3G, especially considering all of the other specs. If I could afford to, I would ditch my iPhone 3G and AT&T in a heart beat for this.
if only this thing had 3G it would be the ULTIMATE non smartphone. but it makes up with the price. its got the wifi, great camera, 3.5mm headphone jack and so on. for only 99 bucks. i think it should be 150 so tmo could make some money cuz the buyers will buy it no matter wat but its great. wat i dont get is why this is 100 and the rokr is 150. the rokr is basically a cool phone and an mp3 player. this is a cool phone plus and mp3 player plus a camera AND its got wifi. it dont make sense to me. hopefully they’ll change that. and lower the price of the razr2.
nice
I think moto shooted this to the N95, but as everyone else mentioned lack of 3g. Than again I mean honestly does T-Mobile have 3g …. not where I like out in Ohio, I mean McCain and Obama love this state and apparently T-Mobile does not
. The price is cheap and I wont complaint besides the fact that it is a Moto which would suck in battery life.
yeah no 3g, if you want a 3g 5meg shooting wait for the behold by samsung soon to be released by tmobile aswell.
Still not gonna save Moto’s sinking ship, even if they sold a ton of em.
It is worth noting that the $99 is after a $100 mail-in rebate.
Definitely worth $99, but not worth being my main device. I’d rather spend more and get more.
Sounds like a nice price point. With 5MP, tons of T-Mobile people will be clamoring to get one of these.
I know this chick that actually likes how it looks, so I suggested she wait and buy one from T-Mobile then unlock it. She said she would pay around $400 for it…
People spend real MONEY on this sort of dumbphone? Who cares about 3G or wifi, not like these things are good for anything but phone calls and texting.
Idk wether to get this or the behold finally tmobile releasing quality phones!
It seems like no matter what tmobile does someone has to hate on it in the comments. I bet if this dropped on att some of you naysayers would jump all over it in joy. But since its tmobile the haters will hate. Good move tmobile. G1, Behold, ZN5, and whatever else you may have is shaping up to be a nice holiday lineup
it will work with the 8 gig unofficially.
It supports microSDHC (regular microSD is maxed out @ 2GB) so theoretically it supports up to 32GB microSDHC card. The phone is probably only tested with a 4GB microSDHC card therefore it is listed as such.
I would have jumped on this but no H@H is a big negative for me.
This would make a great weekend phone just for the 5 MP cammy alone. Nice solid form factor and WiFi make this very attractive from a consumer prospective and the great price is just the icing on the cake.
This isn’t a smartphone so I’m not sure why everyone is bitching about the lack of 3G. I mean seriously, get over it dorks! LOL
$99? Are you kidding?
I’ve tried this phone already. For that price, it is definitely a bargain.
Crisp display, easy to use UI for picture upload, outstanding camera performance on top of good call and audio performance. It’s a pretty good deal!!
I stopped by the local T-Mobile store and took a look at ZN5 for my wife. I was going to buy it but the rep told me the price would be $0.00 after Thanksgiving so I am waiting. Very nice phone and since my wife is only interested in a “pretty good” camera and the phone, this phone will be excellent. Wifi will be a bonus. Great phone for the right people.
Wowza.. who’d think t-mobile of all companies would be the FIRST US CARRIER to launch a 5MP cameraphone?!
My unboxing is here: http://tnkgrl.wordpress.com/2008/11/03/unboxing-the-motorola-zn5-zine/
This works with a 16GB Sandisk MicroSD so yeah. The 4GB listed is to cover their ass cause thats all they test up to. But as other people have pointed out, having SDHC support it should theoretically support 32GB as well.
I’ve got one with a 16GB in it right now so yeah.
We got two of these phones and we absolutely LOVE them. The camera is worth $400.00 but we got both phones and contract for $99.00 This phone looks great and the functions are easy to learn. You can edit, crop/autofix/brightness/sepia/add special effect and upload directly to your Kodak account. WiFi makes for quick surfing and for $4.99 a month you get 400 text/photo/video messages. You can’t be T-Mobile and this phone.
yo i soo want this phoneee !
