FCC approves GSM-only Blackberry Storm
All ye’ faithful Blackberry fans hear this: the GSM-only Blackberry Storm has passed through the FCC! That’s right, Bold folks are just hours away from officially snagging their devices (if they didn’t already get it on Nov 2) and Verizon Storm people are still anxiously waiting, but the GSM Storm news has already hit the masses before the latest and greatest hits the streets. This version is apparently only going to sport GSM and WCDMA 2100, not CDMA like the World Phone that is going to be out soon. Here are some specs for the device, practically the same as the Storm 9500, which is what Vodafone is currently offering:
- 1GB of memory, 192MB RAM
- 1400 mAhr battery. Standby time: 528 hours
- MicroUSB port
- MicroSD and MicroSDHC expandable up to 8GB
- 3.2 megapixel camera, flash, 2.5x digital zoom, auto focus, and image stabilization
- Video capture. Normal mode (480×320) and MMS mode (176×144)
- Assisted GPS – Enhanced version of GPS that performs at a faster speed
- Quad-band
It doesn’t look like it will be supporting tri-band HSDPA, however, so it’s highly doubtful at this point, if it is just like the Vodafone 9500, that it will be able to get 3G on AT&T’s network because it’s only a quad-band GSM phone with WCDMA 2100. So, what do you guys think? Is all this Blackberry news just making you go crazy with anticipation and anxiety?
Thanks to everyone that sent this in!

i know im going crazy! so much information to take in today.
so is it safe to assume it has wifi? you guys blamed verizon for not having it in the cdma version so it only makes sense this one would have it.
Does that mean its for Tmobile?
lol burn for AT@T.. score for TMobile
AT&T ooops
god please t-mobile
The U.S. needs to get with the rest of the world. It would be a better deal financially for all parties involved
I thought this had wifi??
YES I AM GOING CRAZY!
I HAVE MY LOCAL STORE HOLDING ME 3 FOR MYSELF AND ONE TO GIVE AWAY!
COME ON VERIZON!!
WTF? hopfully tmobile gets it i wish thyed have a rim handset running on th 1700 mhz block
Can someone please explain this to me:
7.2 mbps HSDPA/UMTS (2100/1900/850 MHz)
That looks like tri-band 3g to me.
keep the name calling to a minimum please
Bro maybe you should read the article before you post. Because you’re contradicting what your source says. lol
This leads me to believe that we will see this on at&t, hopefully after a 90 or 120 day run on verizon.
To those hoping for an unlocked 3G version on AT&T please read the FCC document. It clearly states:
Modes of operation in the US:
GSM 850/1900
GPRS/EDGE 850/1900
Bluetooth
Modes supported, but not tested as it will not be operating on them in the US:
GSM/GPRS/EDGE 900/1800
UMTS Band I (which is 2100)
Simple: No AT&T or T-Mo 3G.
in plain non geek english who gets the damn phone.
Their write up is wrong. We published the correct specs which are practically identical to the Verizon 9530 unit. No tri-band HSDPA, just quad-band EDGE.
Are you refering to the Verizon version or the article that is sourced for this post because in the article it states tri band 3g.
BG has chimed in, time to go back to posting on his favorite blogger’s blog.
Is T-Mobile ever getting a 3G Blackberry? They don’t have one yet that I’m unaware of right? I’m so tired of EDGE but I don’t want to go to AT&T! I want 3G!! ;(
This is the 9500. This isn’t something different than what Vodafone will receive as Marc says in the story.
Drummm rolll.. and the NINJAS have said that it will be available on T-Mobile thursday, but if you go into a store tomorrow they MIGHT sell it to you.
No Wifi??? WTF!!!!
Just because it seems that it cannot be said enough, there is absolutely no difference both physically and component wise between the 9500 and the 9530. The only differences are firmware and appropriate carrier branding to Bell, Telus, Verizon, and Vodafone.
The specs show triband US 3G support? Does that mean AT&T will have it?
Between this and the Touch Diamond/Pro situation, isn’t Verizon officially the laughingstock of the holiday season?
I mean… wow. You almost have to try to fuck up this badly.
