Blackberry Bold now available at AT&T

The news you have all been waiting months for is finally here. Unleashed a few hours early, the Blackberry Bold is now available for sale on AT&T. We could pontificate about all the ups and downs of the past several months but we won’t — enough has been said.  So get on with some ordering and get yourself a little bit of that Bold action direct from AT&T’s website.

Thanks, Brandon!

For those of you who had both, does the 3G Bold drop calls as much as the iPhone 3G?? That’s what I want to know, because my understanding is it’s AT&T network related. If the Bold doesn’t drop calls, I am switching.

Picked mine up this am. No problems with calls and everything synced with no problems or crashing. Awesome phone! Now… to figure out how to really use everything! :)

I just ordered mine from the website. Thanks to BG for posting the weblink. Damn customer care phone rep tried telling my it wouldn’t be out till the end of the month. Then I find that Customer Care has a seperate ordering system from the web or retail locations and that they would not have it in their system until the end of the month. So, since BG conveniently had the link, I ordered it from the website and then called Customer Care who promptly issued a $432 credit to my account. w00t. (It does pay to be month to month for 4 years) I will have my brand new, completely free bold in two days. Two more days of waiting…anticipation…killing….me…..

Picked up mine at a local ATT store. Walked in about 5 min after they opened and was 5th in line. More came in after me – I think the store only had 6 on hand.

Screw the election – I have a Bold.

Well it cured my cancer, made my girlfriend hotter, and made me lose 30 lbs fast and easy, but my Bold doesn’t hold a 3G signal in my house! That wouldn’t be a huge deal breaker, but add the fact it was $400 I may just return it and wait for a price drop.

    Thank god it’s finally out..

Now people can stop complaining about the “delay”. However, now it’s the price that is the problem. If it’s not one thing it’s another.. lol

@JustMe: oh, the color’s off, why can’t it come in…pink? The fake leather back…ewww! How many naugas had to die for that? Etc, etc.

Yeah, I’m annoyed as hell that after so many other countries have had it for so long, that it’s still a $400 phone here in the States, with a $100 card you’ll eventually get if you remember to fill out the forms (hate hate hate hate hate rebates!). But, yeah, I’m still planning to get it today.

Got my Bold. All the early reports are true….screen is BEAUTIFUL. The screen really does “beat” the iPhone screen. Videos look incredible. Music also sounds GREAT on the Bold (using Shure headphones) — although I am going to promptly load Miutunes so I can have album coverflow on my Bold

Browsing Speeds (using side by side w/ iPhone) are the *same* for me on 3G. Same for me when I use my wireless network. Both phones will intermitently drop to EDGE signal at home. Nothing bad.

The Bold itself is beautiful. It is slightly wider, but shorter than the iPhone. Easily pocketable / portable. Leatherette backing is much classier than I remember at WES. OS is 4.6.0.167. My only concern hardware-wise is the plastic chrome edging. I’m sorry, but it feels cheep as sh1t, and I do worry about long-term use while carrying and using the mobile device “mobilly” (pocketing in jeans).

Web Browser = yawn. The browser gets beat by iPhone’s safari hands down. Opera mini will be loaded on my Bold shortly, but it still lags behind safari. This two key places iPhone really shines are it’s web browser and the ease to find/load 3rd party web applications directly from the device….

Now, the 2nd item *should* be matched once RIM officially releases the “Application Center” (take a look at crackberry.com’s own app store…very well done … to see what may be in store — pardon for the invoking of another blog ;-)

I have my worries about the App Center being “run” by the carriers (verizon, at&t, t-mobile, sprint, vodafone, rogers, etc). Just too much reliance on the carrier’s red tape if you ask me. I worked for one of them, and it took a congressional effort to get the very slightest of things done…so hopefully things will have changed for the better once RIM releases the App Center. Folks will download applications if they are 1) GOOD/USEFUL, and 2) easy to load. Make it difficult, and it’s over.

Now, all that said the Bold is totally worth the upgrade. 4 other people ahead of me were getting Bolds in the store here in Atlanta. All “corporate” types, but I did see one “tween” playing with the one the reps had on display.

The keyboard/ease-of-use typing, full GPS (with actual turn by turn & voice guided capability via TeleNav/ATT Navigator), keyboard shortcuts (huge for me….much faster to navigate for me personally than on the iPhone), and …wait for it….application running in the background (another HUGE item, compared to the iPhone for productivity’s sake) make this a winner.

Unless I get plagued with memory leaks, JVM errors, and numerous “uncaught exceptions” (software issues, not hardware) — this one is a keeper and the iPhone I have will be going bye bye.

    My initial $0.02.

For those concerned about dropped calls and the sturdiness of the plastic looking metal edges i can tell you it WILL scratch very easy! i am about to install my 3rd housing i ordered OEM from overseas..i dropped the original unlocked Bold and the bottom edges had DEEP gashes in it..replaced it and while in my holster i bumped against a corner somewhere and mashed another scratch deep in the corner..be prepared to protect it in a sleeve or hard case …i was running .167 ATT’s update on my bold and still dropped calls where i shouldnt in 3g..My buddy next to me on edge phone full signal no drops..i downgraded mine back to rogers .162 and keep it in edge most of the time and have no issues..Also the battery life on the Att version isnt nearly as strong as on the rogers update..the att version needs charging every evening, hope its better now..i get 2 full days of pretty heavy use on .162 update…can someone confirm that the att bold has blue backlit keys?
