Verizon: You don’t want that crappy G1!
Verizon knows best, right? First, they really didn’t think the iPhone 3G was good enough for you. You know, they said the signal wasn’t great, it was too expensive, and the iPhone insulted your mother behind your back. Well, apparently they’ve whipped a list of reasons why you don’t want a G1, either. By the looks of things, it looks like a total list of deal breakers! It doesn’t have stereo Bluetooth, no video capture, no audible GPS… if the device is missing all of those amazing and absolutely desirable features, then count us out! Right guys? If the list of “misses” weren’t good enough to convince you, just wait – there’s more!
Well, there is a touch screen and physical QWERTY keyboard and apparently opening the device to use the keyboard is just too cumbersome. We guess the Voyager, enV, enV(2), Glyde, XV6800, and other Verizon offerings are just so much easier. Also, you can only download songs via Wi-Fi and there are limitations to 3G downloads for music and such. Verizon lets you download all the songs you want over their network because, oh yeah, they don’t have a selection of Wi-Fi devices. But it’s not that important, right? Verizon also says that there is no MS Exchange sync, so don’t wait for the G1 even though the Exchange programs are in the works and ready to be released soon. You’re compulsive! Oh, and look, the Android OS is bad because it’s open source… Well, there you have it, guys. You should not buy the G1 because Verizon tells you so and we all know better than to ignore the big boys in red.

No one is emotionally bent on politics. It’s just stupid and shameful when people try to use something so insignificant as a name to try to scare the populace. When you refer to your mom or wife, do you say “Betty Joe Blank”? I’m 99% sure that you don’t. So there was no reason to bring politics into this in the First place, which YOU did. All the decisions that he makes (Social Security and retirement, nuclear power, war and defense) IF and WHEN he is elected will have an affect on him and his family. Just like you and I. John McCain (notice I didn’t use his middle name) is a wealthy elderly man with no children at home. No..not praise it….keep their mouth shut. They’re simply affraid of the open systems because they DO give a bigger control to the developer so let me see here…that would allow the developer to pull the roots out and kill the shitty Verizon interface on any phone running it and skip Verizon’s 3G network and allow the user to download on WiFi. VZV is simply shitting their pants and thus is trying to go with the aversion and scare the user therapy. It’s almost like in the communism where the government was telling The People that the western civilization is bad and that they allow people to do everything they want to literally there’s a mayhem and killing sprees out on the streets and the brainwashed population believed it was the ONLY truth. My guess is that you must be on some CDMA network. If so – enjoy your ghetto garden.
Verizon does have good phones but I will take my g1.
The G1 is a great phone yes it lacks a few things but hey most of it revovles around it getting update via OTA. This is what I have to say 3G coverage is limited but its constently being improved by ‘09 that won’t be an issue plus thanks to Suncom service will be great they have over 400 towers going up. Video recording is not that big of a deal plus there is an app that is in development I’m sure its finish but it won’t go up til developers can charge also the open market is secure they had a post a while back google can pull apps and remove them from the market. The camera is fine idk how ppl are getting it takes 10sec to take a picture but your sadly mistaken this is not a nokia or sidekick but the G1 and its great. Keyboard is fine most of you read reviews and get caught up in the hype like it doesn’t look a certain way and blah blah I don’t get phones based on looks and for those who do will miss out and the device is smaller in hand. Most of the bugs or issues you may have can be fixed via OTA simple and functions can be enabled that way also I’m sure a dev is working on a way to say apps to the card or will be incuded in a update don’t you think T-Mobile and google have thought about all this. Memory should have been 256MB though also a virtual keyboard is being worked on and stero bluetooth does work all of these complaints for the most part are being address right now bottom line I recommend the G1 but if your not sure wait a bit til everything is updated but for me I love it also GPS is great and turn by turn your trying to compare this phone with every device on the market if you want a good camera/video get a camcorder, if you want turn by turn get a GPS system and keep it moving every phone and carrier has its downfall.
I love my G1. Most of those things VZW talks about can be fixed with an app, it’s just a matter of time. The G1 is the most adaptable phone out there, it’s awesome.

It’s hard to be a blackberry user, on the Verizon network, and read the news here. I feel like there is so much blackberry/Verizon bashing that I have to take everything with a grain of salt. Of course Verizon is going to say don’t go to another company their product is lacking this and this. Wouldn’t any other apple and at&t included?

Great points here. VZW offers WiFi on ONLY ONE phone now as they have decided that it is better to totally control the network their customers and make more money.
I am sure the idiots I have met on this site will all defend their favorite plumber VZW. They seem to like to be controlled and pay the highest rates in the industry!
The iPhone was no good – after all it offered WiFi, an App Store, a Music and Video Store that VZW did not totally control.
Now it is the Android device – this one is no good either, it has WiFi, an App Store, a Music Store that VZW did not totally control. Boy is there a pattern?

There are NO issues on AT&T 3g. In fact in my area it is faster than Verizon and with 18,000 free hotspots and WiFi at home in my office and on ever major campus WE have choices that are faster than 3G.
Who the hell would want a G1 anyway? It’s like carrying a brick around in your pocket, but who knows, maybe that’s what google/t-mobile were going for?

I think you miss the point. Why doen’t VZW offer these phones? They refused the iPhone which according to the loss of customers and the 12 million sold just 2008 was a mistake. They also refused to jion the Android alliance. Why?
No WiFi offered except ONE handset. No choice of music stores, GPS navigation, so they can lock you in.
They have now passed on two of the most innovative mobile devices the iPhone and Android all while they try and claim they are “opening” their network!
This is not VZW bashing these are the facts.
I don’t understand what the issue is. I’m glad that BGR always posts stuff like this but you can’t say its a bad thing when everyone does it. Not only that but it is internal…not meant for everyone but to help its reps speak to consumers…Should they tell their reps to tell people who walk in the store how great the G1 is? Let’s be serious.
Just went to the T-Mobile store to check out the G1. Personally, I thought it was horrible. My right hand felt incredible uncomfortable when typing. That alone would make me never want to use this phone…EVER.
I will be getting the Storm…or at least ordering it, for FREE, through work, on November 24th, which is when it is available. I’m hoping that when the clock strikes 12:01am Monday morning, it will be available.
I agree….I am loving my G1 as well. Sounds like this is just a hater trying to swindle people into switching their services. HAHAHAHA…..I haven’t had a problem with my G1 yet….so how about that?
I dont know where all of the hatred is coming from…..All I have to say is that I am LOVING my G1….and forget what others have to say about their services with other companies. If it wasn’t for the G1, all of the other cell comopanies wouldn’t have implemented a 3G network, so stick my G1 in your mouths and dont forget to swallow afterwards….HATERS. If you have a problem with the G1, then don’t get it…nor any other phone. The market is competitive and every company is attempting to outdo the next but manage to incorporate ideas from an already existing phone. Suit yourselves with the cell phone and company that fits you, just don’t hate on the G1…..All phones have minor issues that can use updates and fixing….atleast no one is yet to hack into the programs yet which forces T-mobile to make a better version of the phone so soon….unlike with the iphone….HAHAHAHAHA…..that’s crazy. I’m staying with T-mobile….forget the other companies.
I agree and it couldn’t have been said no better. People are just hating and trying to find qays to down the G1, but I am content and loving mine regardless of the critics and their irrational critiques that barely even make since through reasoning….I like my G1 and everythign about but it’s new and applications and fixes are taking place. If the world was perfect there would only need to be 1 cell phone and cell company. If that was the case people would still complain….I don’t get the hassle nor the bickering…..Just shut up people and get whatever phone that works for you.

i just bought one a week ago, ironically switching (PROUDLY) from big red, noticing the obvious like the lack of a2dp (which i honestly never use), limited internal memory? well why not just insult their beloved blackberrys too?
verizon is just jealous because this device actually works, unlike the storm, omnia, 6800, 6900, touch pro……that they crippled.
1. if i want navigation by voice, ill buy a GPS unit.
2. unlocked gps is better that that bullspit navigator they make u pay for any day of the week
3. no verizon hackjob software in this thing
4. limited 3g service??? half the time i never even had 3g available in THE MIDDLE OF A BIG CITY!. this thing has been flawless so far (within its footprint). and the edge seems to be just as fast if not darn close to it as my blackberry on evdo was!
the browser is liteyears ahead of IE, BB browser, and even good ole bogdown opera mini!
5. OTA via amazon ONLY?? i dont find that a problem, as i rather drag/drop on a memory card anyways. i dont wanna buy music that is connected to some sort of license garbage.
6. lacks a standard audio jack…well, explain the omnia?
as for the bad, its not a corporate user device, its a personal device. lack of virtual keyboard can be annoying at times but every one ive used isnt the greatest anyways. but to reply with stuff like “ok, thanks, etc” its good enough. i do miss the idea of a blackberry backup style program to back up everything even down to messages, and i miss having the ability to save a message like on a blackberry.
again, im coming from a blackberry to this so its a different world. if i were to leave G1 it would be for a blackberry and nothing from verizon. verizons latest devices are worse than last years releases. battery life on G1 is acceptable, but not outstanding. ive found it to be about 2 hours less overall with same/similar usage as my cdma blackberry. its annoying that you have to nitpick settings on it to conserve battery.
its the first run, and im sure future updates or models will improve. the first blackberry was not perfect. overall tho im impressed. the storm is garbage tho….what did u expect? verizon got their grubby hands on it first you know it was gonna be fahked up!!!
i will also say this, if verizon got an android phone, it would not be open source, verizon would lock that thing down so hard like a gun in a police station.
