BlackBerry Curve 8900 hands on
What’s that? Thought we were holding out on you? Never! The BlackBerry Curve 8900, also known to the BlackBerry faithful as the BlackBerry Javelin, is the much-awaited BlackBerry Curve replacement. It’s definitely been covered in depth so we won’t bore you and nitpick the handset. Instead, we’ll give you some of our very first impressions and let you decide the next steps.
- The size is awesome — totally small enough to be pocketable, but not too small where sacrifices on the keyboard had to be made.
- Unlike the Bold where some people had trouble hitting the right convenience key since it was too low, on the Curve 8900, it’s located perfectly.
- The screen, as we’re getting accustomed to now with RIM, is flawless! It’s smaller than the Bold as you know, and that’s an even denser, crisper, and sharper display in our books. Really a job well done.
- What about the keyboard? Even better than the first Curve. The keys feel more “fuller” and not hollow like the original 8300 did. They’re also decently spaced, and even after using a Bold for 5 months, the second we picked this up, we were off to the races. Another great execution by RIM.
- It might just be us, but the fake chrome bezel around the 8900 actually seems like it’s more equipped to handle rough usage than the Bold is. We could be wrong, but at first glance it looks like a tougher material or finish. You know how our original Bold fared…
So, do you guys want a full on review of the BlackBerry Curve 8900, or do you want one of our oh-so-popular battles? Maybe a Curve 8900 vs. G1? Hit us up in the comments and let your voice be heard. Word. Don’t forget to get jiggy with the BGR gallery and check out the pictures!

When are we getting it on T-mobile?
the 8900 looks hott…i want it…
much better than the bold…i love my curve, but this is sexy…
Tulsa,OK USA baby!! Pinstacker 4 life!
Wish it had 3g though…
I am really impressed with everything about this phone except the lack of 3G. I’ve heard that the browsing speed is actually much faster than the original Curve.
I have an 8310 and the EDGE browser + mediocre processor leads to a desire for faster web surfing. So, if you could compare the browsing speeds vs. the 3G Bold and the original Curve 83xx series over several sites, that would be great.
Oh yeah, if this is the thread where I post to be eligible for winning the unlocked 8900 … please count me in!
Hey…
I bought a Bold through Rogers when it first came out so it was not nice getting extorted for BB need/greed.
I played with the 8900 in the shop the other day… I love the size and feel, and I think the keypad is easier to use than the piano style keys of the Bold.
Is there a CDMA version coming out soon?
@ Frankie
I believe the CDMA version is the Niagra and it’s expected sometime between Q2 and Q4 2009.
8900; no 3g, slower processor(thou hard to see) than bold, smaller, better camera.
bold or 8900 ? good choice either way.
is it ok that my palms are sweating just thinking about holding it?
im in USA baby!
I would love to see a battaling comparison bewteen the HTC G1 and the Blackberry Curve 8900, that would be awesome.
I want a curve in Canada !
Love the Crackberries!
Seasons Greetings for everyone. I am in Jakarta, Indonesia. Have been fantasizing to own Blackberry Curve 8900. Wish I can have it. anyway Congratulation to anyone who finally win this.
Warm regards,
danny
Oh man! If only this thing had 3G!
What is the main difference between the bold and the 8900 curve?
Oh, if only I could get one of these to replace my old 8300… I’ve been waiting (and I fear I will be indefinitely) to hear if/when AT&T will be getting these little beauties here in the US (corporate pays for my phone & plan, or I would shell out for one on my own). Maybe I’ll convince the wife she needs a new phone…
