BlackBerry Curve 8900 hands on

What’s that? Thought we were holding out on you? Never! The BlackBerry Curve 8900, also known to the BlackBerry faithful as the BlackBerry Javelin, is the much-awaited BlackBerry Curve replacement. It’s definitely been covered in depth so we won’t bore you and nitpick the handset. Instead, we’ll give you some of our very first impressions and let you decide the next steps.

  • The size is awesome — totally small enough to be pocketable, but not too small where sacrifices on the keyboard had to be made.
  • Unlike the Bold where some people had trouble hitting the right convenience key since it was too low, on the Curve 8900, it’s located perfectly.
  • The screen, as we’re getting accustomed to now with RIM, is flawless! It’s smaller than the Bold as you know, and that’s an even denser, crisper, and sharper display in our books. Really a job well done.
  • What about the keyboard? Even better than the first Curve. The keys feel more “fuller” and not hollow like the original 8300 did. They’re also decently spaced, and even after using a Bold for 5 months, the second we picked this up, we were off to the races. Another great execution by RIM.
  • It might just be us, but the fake chrome bezel around the 8900 actually seems like it’s more equipped to handle rough usage than the Bold is. We could be wrong, but at first glance it looks like a tougher material or finish. You know how our original Bold fared…

So, do you guys want a full on review of the BlackBerry Curve 8900, or do you want one of our oh-so-popular battles? Maybe a Curve 8900 vs. G1? Hit us up in the comments and let your voice be heard. Word. Don’t forget to get jiggy with the BGR gallery and check out the pictures!

I’m with Bla1ze…BGR is a good source of little-known Blackberry info, but there are definitely alternate and more devoted sites to get more quality info on future and current Blackberries.

I was gonna BG out on his tardiness with this review too, lol.

The Motorola ZN5 and the Samsung Behold are coming to T-Mo 11/3 and 11/10 respectively; how about a review of them?

Nicole- it says ATT on it because its using an ATT Sim.

I say do a solid review. The only comparisons I would like are side by side pics with the original curve and some others so we can get an idea of the size. If you do end up with a battle, do the Storm! I have a feeling that will be a disappointing phone and I’d love to chalk one up for BB sticking with what they do best instead of following the fads.

I used the 8320 for a year and have been using the pearl flip for the last 30 days. The 4.6 OS is awesome. If I could get it on a bigger screen and a full keyboard with WiFi AND GPS then it will be a no brainer.

Good point Adam. People seem to think that because it says AT&T on the screen, it’s and AT&T branded cell phone. If that was the case, every phone I have ever used is a T-Mobile branded phone, and we all know T-Mobile doesn’t have that many phones. Except hopefully this one in the not to distant future.

I was actually referring to the one here on BGR. I looked at this one and did not notice any AT&T branding whatsoever.

None really have any release info so far (at least not for AT&T)… and since it’s believed that TMO is getting this first…the AT&T branded 8900 over at Giz is kinda throwing people off now.

I’m gonna rummage through Pinstack to see if I can find something, though.

    2. thank you for helping me out

The internet would be such a lovely experience if there were more helpful people like yourself instead of these basement dwelling trolls one so often encounters.

I’d say compare the 8900 vs the old curve! That’d be the best I think. Or just a full on review! That’d be sweet too.

A little late on this one BG, this device has already been reviewed by many other sites. But, I guess, no harm in you reviewing it too – we’d all love to have at least one site do a negative review that we can pan – I’ve the utmost confidence that you can step up to the plate and solidly trash the Javelin, like no other site can!

    4.6 is for 89xx, 82xx, 9000.
    4.7 is TOUCHSCREEN
    5.0 will replace 4.5/4.6…

Wow, guess AT&T is getting that too. but wtf no 3g? WTF RIM? I don’t want to hear about Bold either, if all these new dumb QWERTY devices have 3G, and sliders, candybars, RAZRs, why not this? get with the times RIM!

    Tyrone D. says:

@JAY D – You’re an idiot. iPhone and Javelin comparison would be stupid and pointless since this is replacement for the original Curve and one step lower than the Bold.

@BG: I would highly recommend doing two comparisons; third if needed or asked about (a lot) by the BB community on BGR.

    1st – Curve 8300 vs. Curve 8900
    2nd – Bold vs. Javelin
3rd – Bold vs. Javelin vs. Storm (if highly requested; considering these are the new devices from RIM and BB users want to know how they stack up against each other)

This will give BB users a great overview all recent, popular BB devices and help them make a sound decision about which is the best BB device for them. Let’s try and keep the iPhone users away from here (not hating, just recommending) so we can focus ONLY on the BB users for once.

    Trick or Treat!

You people really need to stop depending on BGR for all your Blackberry info, Google kids, Google. These comparisons have already been done or analyzed…

    @ Joseph

I saw a Nov/Dec release for TMO, but no word on AT&T… I need that AT&T JAVELINE!!! lol
