T-Mobile turning off data on those who pre-ordered the G1
T-Mobile customers who have pre-bought the G1 may notice that their data connection suddenly stops working. D’oh! Don’t panic there is nothing wrong with your G1, this is a problem on T-Mobile’s end. Remember that free week of data that you all got when you pre-bought your G1? When that week is over, T-Mobile is turning off the free data and not turning on the paid data for your plan. A quick call to customer service will re-enable the data plan and fix the problem. You can also login to your account and manually add the data plan back on if you prefer to deal with a computer instead of a human. Nothing major, just a heads up for you all G1 owners. We wouldn’t want your data to go belly up at an inopportune time and have you throw your G1 out the window.

LOL this is so true. One of my co-workers pre-ordered the G1 and she had the same problem yesterday. Is this the type of reward people get for pre-ordering products from T-Mobile…? I hope not.

Party is over, people. Time to pay for your food.

Yeah seriously. If T-Mobile just automatically charged people, they would still complain. Not automatically charging people saves them angry customer service calls.

Looks like all 50 G1 owners need to call T-Mobile right away. If any of you had decent credit perhaps you’d be with a big boy carrier like VZW or AT&T instead of paying fees at TMO with your Discover card. Tools.

@Perspective
That is entirely uncalled for. What gives you the right to make such a degrading generality? Choosing T-Mobile has nothing to do with credit. For my family, T-Mobile was the only one that offered decent service at our house, which was still well within city limits.
And honestly, AT&T is one of the worst companies, so why would choosing them be the smart thing to do?

Ugly ass phone. How come HTC gets away with making the same phone a thousand times. They just change the case a little bit. Boring

HAHA That’s awesome. So true for about 90% of their US customers. The other 10% …enjoy your G1’s

Gotta love that nice misleading tagline, gives us the reassurance that BGR does in fact hate TMO….
and, @ Perspective -
Wow, man, you really have some issues, don’t you? Too many weekends spent with Uncle Ted playing that special “don’t tell mommy and daddy about this” cave diving game? I mean, there has to be some reason that you apparently hate yourself and misdirect your anger at….. T-Mobile customers? Wow, this just got really weird….

Hate to break it to the 90% of tmobile customers but that is a crappy company for people with bad credit

@perspective…
Dude, you ranting like you just did, not only reinforces that you yourself are a tool, but it makes you look like a borderline idiot if you are trying to imply that those two are the big boy carriers. If you mean by big boy carriers they are the largest in size(unlike your brain) then yes you are correct and you win the free psychological counseling session.

I don’t know about the credit issue, but to me, T-mobile is not a crappy company. I have been with them for a very long time, since their Voicestream days, and they have been nothing but great to me and my family. Great plans, and their customer service is top notch.

“Party is over, people. Time to pay for your food” LOL!!! and perspective just feels the need to try and put people down for his own insecure reasons whatever they are and without knowing anything about tmobile and just reading the news and stats.

BG: Maybe you should have a separate “rant” forum. Can’t the comments stay on top with the thread?
I had my G1 (preorder) for 5 days and returned it. Reverted to my curve and bb plan. but tmo kept taking off my bb plan and putting the G1 plan back on. i had to call 3 times for them to change back to the bb plan…

I think it is his grandmother’s basement. But then again, I think in perpective’s case, the mother and grandmother may be the same person.
So, back to OP..sucks that we have to pay now. I was kind of hoping they would forget about turning it off. Better than automatically charging though.

We rant because you have people that come on here and try to insult people on here by making blanket statements. I originally had no comment on the story because I don’t have a G1, I guess you can say I didn’t have the balls to be a beta tester I guess. I was just reading the comments and felt the need to comment on someone’s obvious lack of knowledge and social skills.(in reference to perspective)

mr.gadget? Did they offer you the free service or did you ask? technique? I have been speaking to tmo regarding issues so often that I should add them to speed dial. Luckily I finally found a rep that was able to square everything away but would be nice to get a month free for all that trouble…

The service disruption got me “lost” in NE DC yesterday. I was not amused…especially as I’ve been a data customer for 18 months. On the upside, I woke up this morning to 3G service (new in DC). So it’s a wash for me, but yesterday was a MAJOR hassle.

@ me:
No I didn’t ask for it she said it was and incentive for me resigning a two year agreement and always paying my bill on time.
P.S tmo love mr.gadget……..

My data got cut-off. I called into Tmobile. I jokingly asked “so I get a free month of service, right?”
The rep came back after checking a few things, and gave me a free month of data-service for the ‘inconvenience’. Cool, that’s a free $25!!!

Yeah, besides the data part. I went to the TMO store to buy it rather than online as they said at the store they would waive the express shipping. She said I would receive it in 3 days, well now 4 days later still not here. I called tmo customer service, and I guess not until Nov 10th? Man what a joke. Guess that lady just wanted her commission for the sale…..
