Apple releases details of September MobileMe upgrade… At the end of October

Since what some might characterize as disastrous beginnings, Apple has been relatively quiet about the MobileMe service it initially billed as the savior of sync. In fact, short of a leaked email from the Jobsinator to his team we’ve basically heard nothing of interest. Apparently that doesn’t mean Apple hasn’t been hard at work repairing the mess it created however, and details have now emerged that bring Apple’s recent efforts to light. Apple is typically pretty tight-lipped when it comes to change logs but seeing as MobileMe was a bit of a mess, the Cupertino crew has changed its tune a bit. A new support document published on Apple’s site details a pretty extensive list of changes and improvements that supposedly went into effect in late September. Why it waited until the end of October to make these changes known is a bit of a mystery but hey – at least Apple is giving us something. Does this mean MobileMe troubles are now a thing of the past? You tell us – we still won’t touch MobileMe with a 10-foot pole…

I use it all the time, works great! It works better (more integrated) on a Mac though ;-) . To give you an idea, I use MobileMe instead of work’s exchange server to sync to my iPhone. Not only does it sync more, but it’s a lot more flexible about how I can use the data once it come down to my Mac vs. being stuck with POS Outlook.

POS Outlook? Please. Tasks, calendar, notes, journal, reminders, shared, profiles, forms, macros, integration with Office, extensive customization … you may not like it, but it’s hardly a POS.

Use it all the time and have 0 problems. I understand the launch was bungled and it was not working for the first month but since then it has been perfect.

i just started a free trial with MobileMe a month ago mainly to push all of my contacts and calendar easily to my new iphone. so far, i havent had ANY issues with it whatsoever. it also works great mounted as a network disk in vista.

my only wish is that someone would hurry up with an iphone app that allows bi-directional connection with idisk, not just pull data from it. it would be nice for uploading videos from Cycorder to idisk without having the intermediate step of transferring the video to my laptop.

The thing about MobileMe is that, like Vista, it had major issues at the beginning. However, unlike Vista, we weren’t forced to wait a year for fixes.

It gets better all the time. I’m very happy with push e-mail, and the sync stuff works beautifully for me.

Crappy sync & email is a big reason I am willing to give up the flashy UI of the iPhone for the feature rich, UI deficient Storm.
I’ll take function over form any day.

A smart phone is supposed to help me be efficient and save time, not spend time. MobileMe isn’t something I can count on to work all the time. I hope it gets better.

Outlook sucks, I hate it. The only thing it’s good for is to sync with Exchange. I guess people still don’t get it yet:
It’s not how much stuff it does it’s how well it does it and how easy it is to use. Outlook is definitely NOT easy to use (not that I don’t know HOW to use it) and I much prefer only having the stuff that I NEED. But I guess if you’re one of those gotta-have-everything types of people then go for it. By all means, Outlook away…
