CompUSA sells Blackberry Bold, and you thought Best Buy was expensive
Just when you thought only a crazy person would pay $679.99 for a Blackberry Bold from Best Buy, CompUSA goes and ups the ante. Now, for the bargain price of $799.99, you can have your very own Unlocked BlackBerry Bold! Guess what? For just another $149.98 you can “protect your investment” (at $800, you might as well consider it a poor investment) by adding an extended service plan. Is this the sign of a weak economy and a weak dollar? How does CompUSA go about pricing a device like this when just a few months ago they were closing up shop and selling all their furniture? Whatever the case may be, according to the site they have units in stock and available to be shipped out today. If there’s anyone who can’t wait the extra few days to score one from Best Buy or AT&T, time to break out that plastic. Anyone else notice that they’re also using a Rogers branded Bold in the image by the way?
[Thanks, David!]

once again I must ask.. is this phone still relevant?
I think I’m going to wait as well. I was excited about the Bold about 3 months ago. About 2 weeks ago I was going to get it.
Now I’m just meh.
they probably thought this was an extremely good idea! its not a terrible one, but i wouldnt buy this expensive crap from anyone.
Weak dollar? Someone hasn’t seen the ticker in a while.
Price will drop within a month or so. Right before Storm and X-mas rolls around.
Does NOTHING different than my old Blackberry Curve does. What a joke. Look out below, that was RIM’s stock dropping!
Amazing. Even golf manufacturers put a limit to the range of what a product can be sold at. Doesn’t RIM realize these insane prices are damaging their rep, even if it’s Best Buy or CompUSA that’s doing the damage?
Are we sure that isn’t Canadian or Australian dollars?
i got a call from a friend who works at att and he sent me a pic of the bold in the box, he said that they have them in stock but no word yet as to when they can sell them.
this thing has an updated UI and runs the most recent version of Blackberry OS but it offers nothing new besides 3G. Forgive me for allowing the craze over the Bold to miss me…
People often want unlocked phones for many reasons – international travel, convenience, the ‘no contract extension required’ concept – and unlocked phones do cost more than off-the-shelf carrier related phones.
While the physical components of the Bold have been estimated at $180, there are millions spent on research and development of the software and hardware for the device as well as marketing, carrier subsidies, etc that affect the resale price of the handset.
The phone is beautiful and actually the favorite of many top executives who wanted it as soon as it came out – before it was available in the US even.
There is no outrageous markup and profit in this price. You will even find it selling for more online at other places.
You will probably find CompUSA prices much lower than in 2007 and prior.
Now I would pay 800 for a unlocked storm! Not a Bold
Maybe if the phone offered more like 4GB of ram a 3.2MP cam maybe it would be worth it look at HTC, sonyericsson there High-End phone go for close to 800 when they first were released. 3 to 5 month later serious price drops. As long as someone is will to get screwed paying $800 they will keep the price high
Myworldphone.com also sells the Bold at $800.
Buy an unlocked Treo Pro for $549 and be done with the BB crap.

I can’t wait to drive this thing…V8 engine…it doesn’t drive you say? Then why in the hell would I pay 800 for that a phone they said was coming out last year?…it must fly then!
More signs of MS buying RIM if nonsense like this keeps on taking place.
American neighbours . . . if your itching for a cheaper Bold and you don’t want to sign a huge contract get one from your nothern friends. Out-of-box will save you a lot of duty and their like $525 CDN. Take almost 22% off for your strong dollar. Not a bad deal. By-the-way the Bold is ok. Been using 1 for a month. Awesome screen, battery is ok, no 8800. Cheers eh!
Brilliant!!!
they have the bold at cwonlineshopping.com for 739.99…
I saw it yesterday on an new products email they send out every few days…
Best Buy has a coupon Reward Zone members online. They take it to the store and they can get 20% off ANY smart phone (except I-phone… something far from smart.)
It isn’t that bad considering there’s that coupon in circulation.
Plus that price looks like the retail value… why is it Rogers, dunno O_o()
WOW…It amazes about what some of you rejects find to complain about. If you know anything about anything, you know the only US based carrier that sells a bold is cingular, and its 400 dollars with a brand new 2 year agreement. For 800 YOU GET AN UNLOCKED PHONE (look it up, cuz most of you do not get it) with NO CONTRACT. If you have the money, its a great buy. The tradeoff is that you can keep whatever plan you have as is, and if you dont like the phone, you can easily return it, sell it on ebay, or craigslist for good value. If you live in a freaking cave, the owners of CompUSA bought compusa almost a year ago, so the company that was “selling its furniture” ceased to exist quite a while ago. RIM makes the best phones in the world. Stop buying drugs and save up if you cant afford one.
