I have Verizon and Travle the World and get service everywhere! Places where my dad doesnt with AT&T because i have a CDMA/GSM phone! I LOVE Verizon! My dad switch yesterday to Verizon! Got a BlackBerry World Edition.

Thoughts on taking the plunge with the Diamond or Storm vs holding out one more generation? I still think the next gen in a few months will the HD or equivalent. May be worth the wait – especially to avoid regret…

Haha.. I work for Verizon and I could care less about bragging rights.

It’s the fact that not only a couple of us, but ALL of you guys could have known about it 2 weeks ago and had to wait all this time. With that being said, it’s not a HUGE deal to me because either way, I already had the scoop. Like I said, just figured other people would want to know in a timely fashion as well.

i never said they had none.

i would much rather use a wifi then pay 30 bucks a month for a data package. When the only times i would ever get onto the net with the phone i’d be within wifi areas.

To me gps doesn’t matter. I don’t travel out of my area. And if i do just use a map and signs.

@ TRV$ – Now with all the other posts you see our point right. People have been sending this in to BGR since January, with pics, so it’s not like we’re upset about bragging rights. BGR asks for tips so they can be the first to report certain stories so if we send them in and it doesn’t come up then what’s the point you know. And I know they get tied down but at least 10 people sent this in so they could’ve reporeted it and did the usual thanks guys post it would’ve been fine. They didn’t even have to mention us but rather get the information out. They didn’t need to wait until phonearena put it up and take their pics to put up. Defeats the purpose you know.

On to other matters. The Verizon version of the Touch Pro (6850) will have the same specs as the Sprint version, it will include TouchFlo as well as wifi. Even my 6700 has wifi so I don’t think they’ll omit it here. The OMNIA will initiall have only the 8gb version available but i hope they release the 16gb also, which i doubt. I hope it has wifi also, which would be great. The Storm or the OMNIA is the way to go at the end of the day, unless you’re business centric then you get the Touch Pro but specs wise it gets trumped by the other two. Then again it is a Windows Mobile phone so the its capabilities are are a bit above that of the Storm so it depends on preference.

It makes more sense for Samsung and other manufactures to sell more GSM phones though, despite the US market. The split between GSM/UMTS and CDMA is 80/20. Much more money in GSM/UMTS.

Verizon’s at a significant disadvantage for LTE though as it’s more of an evolution of WCDMA and UMTS. They’ll essentially have to redeploy a brand new network, which will be good and bad. The bad is that it’ll cost a lot more and it’ll be a tech they’re less familiar with, so I’d expect more issues on Verizon’s side than on AT&T’s. The good will be that it’ll all be brand new and you won’t have a company like AT&T trying to do their new system on the cheap and trying to reuse older stuff.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens when there’s a level playing field on the tech. I don’t know that Verizon will be able to cripple their phones as they have been and they won’t be able to nickel and dime their customers so much. They might have to change their slogan from “We never stop screwing you” to something else.

Well in USA there are more CDMA subs than GSM so to take advantage of that it makes sense for Samsung and every other manufacturer to sell both. So I will say watch out for VZ once LTE is adopted cuz then the same tech designed for european and asian phones will be available in the US

I’m quite happy with AT&T. I was able to use my phone almost anywhere I went … except Europe and most of Asia. Verizon has great competitive plans for international (especially text). Oh wait, they don’t. You can do anything you want with a Verizon phone and use almost any handset in the world on their network … oh wait, you can’t.

Verizon has a good network if you don’t travel abroad.

CDMA was generally a superior tech to GSM IMO, but that advantage is disappearing with WCDMA being deployed by GSM carriers and I expect that as it’s deployed further that the advantage will eventually flip the other way.

I’ve been happy since I switched 4 years ago from Verizon. I even started working for Verizon (not Wireles) 3 years ago and I still keep an AT&T phone. Network isn’t perfect, but it’s also a lot better than Sprint and T-Mobile. Having a few flaky spots in BFE isn’t a big deal to me considering I can use my phone worldwide and with the right phone, I very rarely ever drop calls, even on a so called “crappy” network.

Verizon has a good network, but I still fail see why a lot of people on these sites worship at their altar.

I don’t know why I stick with Verizon. Wait, yes, I do know, They have the best network in the US. By far. It’s why we put up with what Verizon does to our phones. I have been waiting for AT&T to get their act together, but effing Verizon just has the nest network. The worst phones, but the best network.

j-villa, I have a Samsung i760 on Verizon and have had it for nearly a year. Guess what? It was wifi. So Verizon does indeed have phones with wifi.

If anything, I’m more worried about Verizon crippling the GPS than wifi. If any of these phones have the GPS for use solely by Verizon’s stupid map system then I’m jumping to AT&T.

Maybe the BG Staff wanted to verify authenticity as best they could before they dropped the news on the unsuspecting and expectant VZW public.

I used to sell verizon. It’s all about the dapc. Verizon wants every penny of yours in their pocket.(not in anyway saying i know everything lol because i don’t)

I love my xv6900. But I’m hoping for wifi. I still use verizon and wish i could have wifi on a pda.

Other wise i switching out in a couple months.

it seems the vzw xv6850 is definitely a differnt model just from looks compared to the sprint verdion, so I’d expect it to be just an updated xv 6800 as it was to the 6700 so wif should stay. !ut the Omnia is the only thing tempting me from the storm but I’ve played with both and the screen on the storm is gorgeous. So its a match of funtionality for me.

j-villa I think you’re getting a bit carried away.

I see VZW in much the same way that I see EA. It appears they’re trying to step their game up but, every so often, they’ll do some dumb shit that’ll remind you why they need to step their game up in the first place.

Providing these phones is stepping their game up. The weaker processor, lesser amount of RAM, and GPS lockdown reminds you why they need to keep on doing it.

Hopefully, in real world usage, this won’t be a real issue. The jump from 64MB –> 128MB between the XV6800 and the original Touch seemed to eliminate all memory-related problems. Combine that with the inevitable cooked ROMs, and I don’t imagine that there would be too much in the way of memory issues.

Memory leaks, on the other hand… that’s another story.
