Three new Verizon handsets leaked: Samsung Omnia and Saga, HTC Touch Pro

Finally, a little more holiday love from the jolly red giant. Sure the BlackBerry Storm will be out before Santa rolls around this year but it’s always nice to have options – especially since the Storm’s touchy clicky screen will surely not appeal to everyone. Worry not, it looks like the boys in red have a few treats for you. First up, the Samsung Omnia. Pictured above sporting a Verizon Wireless boot screen, the Omnia is one of Samsung’s answers to the, dare we say, iPhone. Optical mouse, nice big touchscreen, Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro, 5 megapixel camera, GPS, 8 GB of internal memory… You know the drill. Next up, the HTC Touch Pro. There’s no way that Verizon would let Sprint have all the QWERTY HTC fun. Interesting to note that the image (after the jump) shows the Touch Pro with a standard Windows Mobile today screen – what a massive fail that would be! Expect pricing right around $300 to fall in line with Sprint’s offering. Last, and least, is the Samsung i770 Saga. We found out that the i770 was coming to Verizon earlier this month and it will replace the aging i760. The d-pad / mouse mode setup is kind of cool but we doubt we’d opt for it over the Touch Pro or Omnia. There you have it people – hit the jump for a pic of Verizon’s Touch Pro and Saga.

Before we get all the “zomg verizon sucks they killed the touchpro”, yes it will have TF3d, ask an htc rep, and they will confirm it for you.

I wonder if the rumors that the VZ Touch Pro will be crippled with a weaker processor and less RAM are true- that would seem rather pointless and a very bad decision, unless I suppose they were aiming to sell it at a very low price point? Is there any news on that?

Mmmm.. The Omnia! I think I’m just going to have to play with it and the Storm to make up my mind… so many choices, only one phone number. :)

    Kelly Hodgkins says:

rumor over at Hofo from someone who claims to be testing the phone says No its not crippled and will have the 528mhz processor (and presumably the 256MB RAM)

while..a person over at PPC geeks claiming to work in an order/repair/design center for HTC and has provided lots of info about the sprint version has this to say:

I hear the Verizon Touch Pro will be crippled…true?

Yes, will it be crippled SADLY yes, it will have a lower CPU and memory, but from the test model I honestly did not see a difference unless you use some serious programs.
UPDATE: Verizon phone does show a 7501a chipset so its looking like it will be crippled.

Not looking so good for the VZW customers.

Verizon is getting three of the best phones this holiday season…I guess they’ve stepped their handset game up. I’m mad BGR is reporting it just now when an internal doc leaked and sent to you guys listed all these devices over 2 weeks ago.

I know what you mean by being disappointed. I also sent them a doc that had all three of those devices on it back on the 14th… I have a feeling if it wasn’t for phonescoop having their post then BGR still wouldn’t have posted anything….

one last thing..the same person at hofo who is testing the xv6850 said that it does have TouchFlo 3D and the square edges unlike the sprint version which has the round edges….

    j-villa I think you’re getting a bit carried away.

I see VZW in much the same way that I see EA. It appears they’re trying to step their game up but, every so often, they’ll do some dumb shit that’ll remind you why they need to step their game up in the first place.

Providing these phones is stepping their game up. The weaker processor, lesser amount of RAM, and GPS lockdown reminds you why they need to keep on doing it.

Hopefully, in real world usage, this won’t be a real issue. The jump from 64MB –> 128MB between the XV6800 and the original Touch seemed to eliminate all memory-related problems. Combine that with the inevitable cooked ROMs, and I don’t imagine that there would be too much in the way of memory issues.

Memory leaks, on the other hand… that’s another story.

it seems the vzw xv6850 is definitely a differnt model just from looks compared to the sprint verdion, so I’d expect it to be just an updated xv 6800 as it was to the 6700 so wif should stay. !ut the Omnia is the only thing tempting me from the storm but I’ve played with both and the screen on the storm is gorgeous. So its a match of funtionality for me.

carried away? how many verizon phones have wifi?

I used to sell verizon. It’s all about the dapc. Verizon wants every penny of yours in their pocket.(not in anyway saying i know everything lol because i don’t)

I love my xv6900. But I’m hoping for wifi. I still use verizon and wish i could have wifi on a pda.

Other wise i switching out in a couple months.

    @likeabite and justme

If you’ve already seen the leaked document, why are you so upset about not seeing it here? Is it because you had to wait two weeks to be able to brag online that you saw it/sent it to BG? Maybe the BG Staff wanted to verify authenticity as best they could before they dropped the news on the unsuspecting and expectant VZW public.

One other thing I picked up … BGR mentions only 8GB on the Omnia for VZW. Is there a 16GB version like there is on the GSM version or is this another VZ enhancement?

    Mike says:

j-villa, I have a Samsung i760 on Verizon and have had it for nearly a year. Guess what? It was wifi. So Verizon does indeed have phones with wifi.

If anything, I’m more worried about Verizon crippling the GPS than wifi. If any of these phones have the GPS for use solely by Verizon’s stupid map system then I’m jumping to AT&T.

Samsung may want to limit the different types of CDMA units they’d have to produce, an unfortunate result of the fact that GSM outsells CDMA worldwide.

I don’t know why I stick with Verizon. Wait, yes, I do know, They have the best network in the US. By far. It’s why we put up with what Verizon does to our phones. I have been waiting for AT&T to get their act together, but effing Verizon just has the nest network. The worst phones, but the best network.

I’m quite happy with AT&T. I was able to use my phone almost anywhere I went … except Europe and most of Asia. Verizon has great competitive plans for international (especially text). Oh wait, they don’t. You can do anything you want with a Verizon phone and use almost any handset in the world on their network … oh wait, you can’t.

Verizon has a good network if you don’t travel abroad.

CDMA was generally a superior tech to GSM IMO, but that advantage is disappearing with WCDMA being deployed by GSM carriers and I expect that as it’s deployed further that the advantage will eventually flip the other way.

I’ve been happy since I switched 4 years ago from Verizon. I even started working for Verizon (not Wireles) 3 years ago and I still keep an AT&T phone. Network isn’t perfect, but it’s also a lot better than Sprint and T-Mobile. Having a few flaky spots in BFE isn’t a big deal to me considering I can use my phone worldwide and with the right phone, I very rarely ever drop calls, even on a so called “crappy” network.

Verizon has a good network, but I still fail see why everyone worships at their altar.
