Hi, cpilch, absolutely agree. Just bought the phone and stupidly upgraded to 2.2 without jailbreaking it and now.. now.. what shall I do? Just sit and cry or prefer to risk to loose the phone while downgrading?

iPhone Users,

The laughter about the iPhone is getting bigger and bigger. They implement these super highly sophisticated features, but don’t even have the basic ones like copy and paste. I think all the users of the iPhone should boycott the iPhone and AT&T/Apple until they make this phone more practical. Maybe if they feel the pressure, they will do something about it. If you are looking for a real practical touchscreen phone, check out the new Blackberry storm or the HTC MAX 4G that’s coming out.

Well Maps and directions are a cute toy for some of us. But I think whats holding the iPhone back from being a serious player in the Enterprise is the user base in general. I went from a Blackberry to my iPhone because I support 500+ handhelds. I was suffering from BB withdrawal but The iPhone for good and bad isnt all that bad. It needs time to mature. Once apple gets serious about Calendar (inviting to meetings) Email (landscape keyboard). Those 2 things will bring it a long way to a real Enterprise contender. Look , make fun of Blackberry’s all you want. They do what they do real well and noone can take that away from them.

Muntari, shhh, You’re naivety is showing. Apple’s iPhone is trendy. I know many people who bought the iPhone just because of it’s looks cool and then were disappointed at how little basic features it had. A lot of people regret buying their iPhone and Apple’s policy of no returns is working…so people are stuck with an iTouch that also makes and receives calls. I can’t wait for the Blackberry and other competing products with Copy and Paste to make a huge dent in Apple’s iPhone’s sales.

Tell Apple you want Copy and Paste through their feedback website. They’re a lot of kids and those who love [trendy] toys and have no need for functionality who love all these non practical useful features like copy and paste and video/voice recording and dialing.

You guys are pretty funny, all those features you keep listing are not dealbreakers. If they were Apple wouldn’t be selling that many phones, Apple knows this, which is why they aren’t in any rush to implement them, as long as iphones keep flying off the shelf, Apple won’t be in a rush to implement all those features you want. Funny thing is y’all knew the iphone didn’t have those features but still went ahead and bought it.

Read , with out the 3rd party aps the ICRAP would be nothing, some people use MMS with their jobs, such as take a picture and send it to a client, ect.. that is the benefit, and no one really cares what YOU do with your phone, so hush!

Am I wrong to think that the iPhone should master the basics before focusing on more bells and whistles? My wish list: landscape keyboard in all Apple made apps, communication between Apple apps (why have a contact section for birthdays if this data won’t post to the calendar???) (if I place a location for a calendar event, wouldn’t it be nice to link that location to the map??), cut and paste ( I know I’m beating a dead dog here, but it would be nice to drop all this text into an email and send it to someone that might make a difference), I’d like for safari to stop crashing, I’d like to look at my call list and be able to tell incoming calls from outgoing calls, I’d like to be able to customize MY iPhone without jailbreaking it, I think that’s about it for now. Is it wrong to want these basic things from the coolest phone on the market?

I hear ya…but keep dreaming. Unfortunately, Apple thinks they are “game changers” and that we don’t need MMS in the iPhone nor we need to record video from it. Thankfully, most of Jobs’ screw ups with the iPhone have been fixed by many talented developers out there that took it upon themselves to straighten out this “bad apple”. That’s why if any iPhone owner like myself wants to have a phone that can compete with all ther other phones out in the market right now, you have to jailbreak that overpriced contraption and add all these features via Cydia or Installer. Jailbreaking the iPhone and adding all these tremendous apps that Apple never even dreamed of is what really made the iPhone a success. Steve Jobs, you should really be on your knees “thanking” all those 3rd party apps developers out there that made your brick phone on of the most sought after gadgets of the decade.

Wow! Am I the only one that thinks that this is not a coincidence? Google’s Android G1 phone just released this week, and we can all agree that its Google Maps features kicks the iPhone’s behind. This added feature for FW 2.2 is Cuppertino trying to stay in the game. This is a rare example of Apple doing the following, and not the leading. Jobs, thank you for this new feature, but…WHERE ARE THE ONES THAT WE REALLY CARE ABOUT!!!

For what its worth as far as MMS goes …I activate iPhones all day in an AT&T store and can tell you first hand that when we activate them, we have to enable “MMS OPT-OUT”. That way you get that little message when some one sends you a pic that tells you to view it at viewmymessage.com. The point I’m trying to get accross here, is that I really doubt that the iPhone will ever be able to do MMS. For the simple reason that every single customer who wants MMS would have to come into a store or call customer care to have MMS provisioned. I don’t think ATT wants that bad press of being such a pain.

I love how they just outsold RIM’s entire line of products for a quarter, yet you’re complaining about the features people are “waiting” for. They sold nearly one iPhone PER SECOND for the period between July 11 and September 30 (Number of iPhones sold: 6,892,000; number of seconds during the same period: 7,084,800). The numbers don’t lie. Copy-and-past is meaningless. MMS messaging is virtually meaningless (especially with e-mail), unless you’re below the age of 25 and underemployed like most of the guys that read gadget blogs. Push notification is coming, but again, look at the numbers. . .its absence has yet to affect sales in a significant way. So if you’re waiting for copy-and-paste, return the iPhone and get a Blackberry. Sure, it won’t do 80% of what the iPhone can do and has virtually no 3P apps, but it’s got that copy-and-paste! (It also has that annoying light that flashes in your face anytime you look at it. . .what a nice touch).

OK, I’ll gladly take streetview, since it’s kinda cool and they need to compete with the G1, of course. But, I would rather have (among the things listed above), a good camera with video recording and a xenon flash, loud stereo speakers, a good speakerphone that you can actually use, a real physical shutter button for the camera, more and better factory ringtones that don’t sound goofy, and last but not least—a bright as the sun L.E.D. indicator light with multiple colors and the ability to assign the different colors to different alerts any way we want to!!! This would be extremely beneficial to the iphone, since you can hardly hear the alerts as it is now, and you won’t know if you missed an alert until you wake it up and check….dumb. Who’s with me?

Jobs will find a way to turn Copy and Paste into a “revolutionary” and “game changing” that will end up having its own Core OS to run the function.

Apple’s not the one that’s adding the features. They’re just adding the front end UI. Google is the one adding in all the back end features. Don’t you guys notice the trend that just after Google announces a feature (Cell phone triangulation, Street View, Public Transportation), Apple gets it in the very next firmware. It’s because all they have to do is add the buttons.

Yes, there are things Apple needs to work on, but ripping them for focusing on this over other priorities, when they likely had little to no involvement with it is bordering retarded.
