AT&T BlackBerry Bolds in stock at Best Buy, go on sale tomorrow?

We’ve got a bunch of tips on this so we’re going to run with it. Just a word of caution? We haven’t confirmed this ourselves yet, but we have ever reason to believe our ever-faithful tipsters. If they are correct, various Best Buy locations have already started receiving shipments of AT&T BlackBerry Bolds and they are allowed to start selling them tomorrow. We even heard demo models are out on the floor at some stores. Now for pricing… We’re told the Bolds are going for $349 with a 2-year agreement at Best Buy (?) and that the full retail pricing is $679.99. Some stores will only sell them at no-commitment pricing it seems. If you’re in the tri-state area, chances are you’re feeling some pretty heavy winds, but that’s not going to hold you back from setting up shop at your local Best Buy and braving it out until the morning is it?

Thanks, to everyone who hit us up!

I went to my local BestBuy in Dekalb, IL and they told me it is officially released through them, but they didn’t have any in stock. They had all the accessories for it, but they didn’t even have the display model. I was told some time this week as they get shipments on Monday and Thursday. It’s hard to imagine how BestBuy can sell this phone before the AT&T stores. Seems like something is messed up with AT&T on this release.

    BestBuy Berlin CT:

    1. Dummy model out
    2. Per salesman supposed to be released today but none in. He had called around and no other Best Buy’s had them
    3. No other info to be had other than the display price was $349 for new 2 year contract despite an advertising flier that they also had which showed the price as $399.

I went to two Atlanta Best Buy stores (Northlake and Buckhead) and neither had the Bold in stock. The lady at Northlake said they would start selling them on the 4th with the storm(take that storm bit with a grain of salt). I guess I’ll be waiting for the 4th.

Ok, so i called an AT&T wireless store after having no luck at BestBuy and the employee I talked to said she knew it was available for BestBuy already, but the AT&T stores wouldn’t be selling or getting any Bolds until the 1st or 2nd week of November. She stated that most of the hold up now was the fact that AT&T was getting ready to release a lot of new phones in the coming weeks. Take it how ever you want but AT&T gets an epic fail from me over this whole botched Bold ordeal.

None to be had in the Greater Washington area although the Best Buy ad shows an effective date of Oct. 26.

I had the CSR pull up the SKU and it shows none in stock in 14 stores, none in-bound, and no release date.

Just had one of my Best Buy people basically pull every store in the north east. None has stock but what’s stranger is that none show any in transit… oh well.

Do you all REALLY think that Bestbuy was going to get them before the AT&T stores? Why on earth would AT&T do that? Going to be Nov 4th. Only a week away. Deal with it.

I love all the hate that BG receives, as if they created this rumor. It was created from the BS that we send in and BG kindly posted it. What if the Bold had mysteriously become available at Best Buy, would the comments then become: BG, your ninjas suck, why didn’t you tell us about Best Buy getting Bolds early?

On another subject, the capability to manually switch between EDGE and 3G was one of the things holding up technical acceptance. RIM wanted it included (like it was for iPhone 3G) and AT&T balked. AT&T feels the 3G network is more stable and optimized. The constant switching between EDGE and 3G would provide a suboptimal user experience.

Before you jump on me with the comments about how horrendous the 3G network is, don’t. I agree. Take the above with a grain of salt because while our 1900 Mhz towers are optimized, our 850 Mhz roll out (at least in the LA region) won’t be complete until 1Q2009. Depending on the amount of spectrum we have in each market, we have to reallocate the spectrum for each freq. Not to mention the fact that we have to reoptimize the different antennas as the frequencies propagate differently.

Knowing all of this is going on, I would prefer to allow my users to optimize on the best frequency based on THEIR experiences, but doing so would put more pressure on the network. Unfortunately, both options are lose/lose for the consumer.

Sacramento, California said no locations have the Bold as of yet. They received the papers today and expect a display in this week. The rep told me that they expect to start selling next week and that several people have called the store asking for the Bold.

AT&T is not as incompetent as we think. I’m sure this isn’t the first time this has crossed your mind but peed this: sell as many iPhones as you can, saturate the market with your 3Q earnings. Then keep your monopoly alive by not releasing the thing and put yourself in a position to counter Verizon’s storm for your 4Q numbers. Even if they didn’t delay it intentionally they sure were not in a rush to push it out.

We’re all puppets here; myself included. Would not be surprised if the 8900 drops in Q2 of 2009.

I also have a theory about disabling the 2G, ATT lost out on what it could have made on the iphone due to people unlocking/jail breaking the device and using it T-mobile. If they lock out 2G on the Bold it would prevent if from working on T-mobiles network.
