Pandora and Netflix, now streaming to a Samsung Blu-ray player near you

Samsung BD-P2550 owners, it’s time to get your firmware update on. Non-Samsung BD-P2550 owners, it’s time to add this puppy to your wishlist. Until this morning, we had our eye on the LG BD-300 as the player / set top box combo du jour. As it turns out however, we’re jumping ship faster than Lady de Rothschild. The BD-P2550 just got a major firmware update that brings not only Netflix streaming, but Pandora streaming as well. In other words, for $50 more than LG’s box you can throw Pandora streaming into the mix and add DTS-HD audio support in another firmware update coming on October 30. We’ll take two.

Zach or anyone else: Will this device be compatible with a wireless adapter that can hook into home wifi? I have looked around with no luck. Also, the Netflix site says that it streams in “near DVD quality” so not that hot. I imagine Netflix will eventually up their streaming quality, but can this player handle HD streaming? Not much info regarding that either.

If it can stream Pandora then it should be able to stream from slacker.com and others too, no?

Wow this is how I learn about think like Pandora that I never heard about before. Where is Hulu? Also CBS, ABC, CNN, etc… We need a device that can do all this and future stuff too.

Well the easy way is just hook up your laptop to all of that. Besides, all the shows you can watch on Hulu and CBS, ABC, CNN, etc. are on cable or satellite TV anyway. Wouldn’t having the set top box be duplicitous??

In any case, I would LOVE to get this. It’s about time my family adopted BluRay, and having Netflix and Pandora streaming just definitely takes the cake. Too bad it’s still $400.

The best blu-ray option has to be the PS3…sorry. Not only is it ranked the highest on CNet but you can upgrade it’s functionality and adopt any new blu ray formats easily. You can also use its browser to stream anything from Hulu, CNN,ABC,Youtube…especially with the Flash 9 update just released. It looks great in HD btw.

I think the point of Boxes like these is to free people from the whole CHOOSE CABLE OR SATELLITE war. People like free choices. I don’t pay for cable or satellite, but have a PS3 with Linux so I can watch Hulu, CBS, Netflix, YouTube, etc… on my HDTV. I don’t even need Linux for most of that with PlayOn (themediamall.com). Pandora is just the nice next thing to come along.
