BlackBerry 9100 waiting in the wings?

Look, with the model numbers floating around, this wouldn’t surprise us much. Since, well, we’ve heard it before in our inner-circles. If what we’re told is to be believed, the logical assumption is that the BlackBerry 9100 is a 3G-enabled Pearl. No other information is currently available on the device, but as you’re well aware, we’ll keep ya’ updated! Larger shot after the jump.
UPDATE: We did some double checking and this might just be the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 since it was internally referred to as the 9100 previously.

What? No release date from your sources BGR?

The Pearl Flip 8220 was briefly given the 9100 designation internally….

@DewDuck
Even if there was, prob no use posting it…80% of the comments on this thread anyways are probably gonna be people bitching about the Bold release.

I’ve had a 3G Pearl since last January on Sprint. GSM is for silly geese…

@ Mark
Until they realized it was as big a POS as the 8100 and decided to keep it as an 8 series.
The Pearl needs an over-haul….And an over-haul is not turning it into a flip.
There’s a new non-flip sure-type a comin’.

$500.00 says we see 91 model number sure-type device info leaked by end of Q2 2009, and on the market by end of Q3 ‘09.

Agreed. Just a little tongue in cheek considering the accuracy of BGR’s sources regarding the Bold.

It could simply be that the 9100 is the 1.7 GHz version of the 9000, i.e., the one which will operate on T-Mobile USA starting 3Q09, and which will include UMA software.

Could be the Blackberry Apex(cdma pearl flip) which will have 3G.

E-V-E-R-Y CDMA-based Blackberry has been “3G” (aka EV-DO and later EV-DO rev.A) since about May 2003, if memory serves me right.

So how will this differ, other than form factor from the bold?
I absolutely love my bold - totally kicks ass, though I would love a functional skype and truphone client….

If the 9100 simply is a 9000 with 1.7 GHz (and UMA software), it would be physically invisible from a hardware standpoint. If the 9100 is a future HSPA-capable Pearl or Pearl Flip, then look for those basic form factors. I doubt the 9100 is a future Curve. The next Curve is the 8900 and it will be available on T-Mobile some time between December and February, as well as on AT&T probably in a similar time frame.

Question which may be dumb, but I gotta ask:
Technically…what is 3G?
Is 3G just referring to high speed data transfer? I always thought 3G meant the ability to use data and voice features simultaneously?
@curtis: 3G refers from a legal standpoint to the standards IMT-2000 as defined by the International Telecommunications Union. No one really uses that definition, though, because it includes EDGE and 1xRTT as 3G.
Usually it just means either UMTS/HSDPA or CDMA EV-DO… (throw in TD-SCDMA if you’re in China) I’ve never heard it being defined as “using data and voice simultaneously” before, and that would I believe exclude EV-DO.

Why would a pearl use the Bold code number? I think it might be a mod of the current Bold with either a fancy shmancy upgrade, or the T-Mobile version…I think so…

@ Amir…
The 2nd number indicates SureType.
IE: 8100, 7100, 7130, 8120…all sure-type.
