Spy shots of the Nokia E63 emerge
As part of the whole discussion on the leaked Nokia promotional video about a month ago, the existence of the mysterious Eseries phone, the E63, has come to light. Much of the phone still remains a mystery but we do have some new spy shots to confirm its existence and few leaked details on the handset itself courtesy of the Telefon-Tredd.de forums. This is all rumor so take it with a healthy grain of salt. The Nokia E63 is purported to come in three variants: the E63-1: for Europe, the E63-2: without a camera and more memory (?), and E63-3: for the Americas. According to a user agent profile on Nokia servers and from the spy shooter himself, the E63 will have the following specs:
- GSM and GPRS + EDGE
- UMTS + HSDPA
- Display: 240 x 320 Pixel, 18bit
- Camera: At least 2MP. No Front Camera.
- WLAN
- Bluetooth
- Symbian v9.1
- S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1
- MIDP 2.0 and CLDC 1.1
- Has 3.5 mm jack connector
- Is thicker than E71
- Has a flashlight function (which by pressing the space bar immediately activated and can be disabled)
- No metal construction (plastic only) except Navikey and camera module
- No side buttons
- Left side: microSD slot and micro-USB connector (with hard plastic closure)
- The microphone is on the lower side (not front as E71)
- 2mm mains next to the microphone
- Bottom right (on the corner) is an eyelet
- Menu’s like E71, looks like FP1
So there you have it folks, the Nokia E63 as we know it today. Hit the jump for a few more spy shots.

Noooo! I just got my e72-2 like a month a go, the lack of 3.5 mm jack is driving me nuts… Adapters are so ugly too… sigh Nokia, sigh!

ugh, need my coffee.

That looks sweet! Hopefully it will be a cheaper version of the E71. Although paying $450 for the E71 isn’t that bad at all.

as niftydl said, the lack of a 3.5mm jack on e71 is absurd. so now we get this, and it seems to lack WiFi (tho I could have missed it). so we get our choice of music w/o wifi or wifi w/o music (unless you wanna rock a dumb dongle dumb dumb). grrr. nokia - update the e71 with a 3.5 and i will buy one. i promise.

The speakerphone is the biggest problem with the e71. No mention of this being changed. e63 just looks like a color change for the lady-boys.

yeah… for a sec i regretted my purchase of the e71…. then.. i noticed that the e63 has a plastic casing?!? gosh… if i’m gonna pay ~$400 i want something with class.. metal casing is the best!
2.5mm jack is a drag… luckily i had a spare adapter that looks nice… maybe i’ll try bluetooth headphones….

@Frank: what’s wrong the E71’s speakerphone? it’s VERY LOUD with reasonably good audio quality. I definitely wouldn’t call it E71’s biggest problem.
BTW, FP1 uses Symbian 9.2, although there’s really no point of specifying Symbian version since platform release maps directly to a specific OS version.

Ok, so this seems to be what the E71 should of been all along ie larger screen, usable keys, 3.5 jack and a n-series DAC.
Hope so cos it needs a jump in audio quality, my E71 audio stinks, so bad i have to use the BT Stereo. I would buy this for the 3.5 jack alone even though i love the build quality of my E71, i can live without it.

So a 3.5mm jack and N-series DAC are what constitutes a new model these days? How about calling it the E-71.5 ?

What are “2mm mains next to the microphone”?
