AT&T BlackBerry Bold receives Technical Acceptance; Nov 4 launch, $300

We’ll get right to the point on this one. One of our sources notified us last night that as of 6:00 PM EST yesterday, the BlackBerry Bold has officially received Technical Acceptance from Big Blue, meaning the handset has been approved for sale by the phone gods of AT&T. Typically, TA means the handset is about two weeks from launching but we had our fingers crossed that AT&T would somehow be fast-tracking the release since the Bold has already been delayed so many times. Unfortunately it doesn’t look that that will be the case. Word is coming in now that AT&T has officially stated on this morning’s earnings call, that the Bold will be released on November 4th. We still have it on pretty good authority that October 27th was intended to be the date – looks like AT&T and RIM just had to keep the tradition of delays alive one last time before launch.

UPDATE: This just in – $300 price point yall! (Thanks Carlos)

Anyone know if AT&T is going to put it on their website before the 4th so you can do some form of pre-order?

I am also a gov. employee. My contract is not up for renewal until May 2009. By the sounds of it, yours is up in Dec to get it for “free”(?) how are you getting it on Nov. 4th for $199.00???????

BeBoldMa, that would be the ONLY way I would jump on the Bold now, with an $18 upgrade fee. How could they do that? Otherwise, I’m fine with my Curve until 6-12 months from now, when I can get the Bold for $50 or maybe even for free.

The official launch date has been set for November 4th.

    Here is my two cents:

I was told ten minutes ago from my rep that the Bold will launch on Nov. 4, the in-store price will be $399.99 with a $100 mail-in rebate.
I expect the no-contract price to be at least $599.99 because the dealer price for this device is rediculous, and we would prefer to hold our stock for people signing contracts.

I assume the “suggested retail” will be $549.99 and company stores with lots of stock will probably go ahead and sale at that price, so stick with the big company locations if you are not willing to sell your soul for two more years!

BeBoldMa it’s $75 on top of the 2 year price for an early upgrade. $18 is just the standard upgrade fee.

Any tips on how someone could get a deal on a Bold? Here comes the sob story, I’ve been out of work for quite some time and have been a Blackberry user since the little brick days. I use a Blackberry daily in my job search to keep me connected to potential opportunities and when I am working, it’s a very important tool. Couldn’t live without one. That being said, I think the Bold will be an incredibly useful tool in every part of my life and while I couldn’t afford the $300 price tag at this time, I could certainly spend $150 -$200 tops. Any suggestions? Thanks for any help in advance!

    @ AMY

Right now, if it’s coming out at $299, I get a gov discount. It’s $100 off of any phone. So I’ll be able to get it at $199.

If I wait until Dec, I’ll probably get a 7290, which is the pancake bb that doesn’t have all the cool features the Bold has.

So I either get a Bold for $199 or a free 7290 bb.

    @ George
Is that off the Premier site or do you have to go into a store? Does it deal with how far you are into your contract or not?

    George says:

    @ ASAPP

Well, I’m switching jobs. I’m going from a state employee to a federal employee. So the new blackberry 7290 will be for my new job in the federal government. But for my state employee discount, I can go into a store or I can buy through AT&T from the guy that handles government accounts.

I never asked about the contract status.

Was in my ATT store yesterday & they’ve already got the accessories & some of the display materials. Barring a delay from the shipper they’ll have the unit on sale on Nov.4. However, like me, they can’t figure out why the device is being released on election day.

The 4th, Angela, it’ll be the 4th, in properly stocked AT&T stores. Ideally, you want to go to a corporate store, and NOT one of those “Authorized Resellers”! :)
