AT&T BlackBerry Bold receives Technical Acceptance; Nov 4 launch, $300

We’ll get right to the point on this one. One of our sources notified us last night that as of 6:00 PM EST yesterday, the BlackBerry Bold has officially received Technical Acceptance from Big Blue, meaning the handset has been approved for sale by the phone gods of AT&T. Typically, TA means the handset is about two weeks from launching but we had our fingers crossed that AT&T would somehow be fast-tracking the release since the Bold has already been delayed so many times. Unfortunately it doesn’t look that that will be the case. Word is coming in now that AT&T has officially stated on this morning’s earnings call, that the Bold will be released on November 4th. We still have it on pretty good authority that October 27th was intended to be the date – looks like AT&T and RIM just had to keep the tradition of delays alive one last time before launch.

UPDATE: This just in – $300 price point yall! (Thanks Carlos)

Good man, Andy Bernard is a demi god on campus, some students even tried to start a ” here comes treble” tribute band, don’t think it went anywhere though.

Very Surprised on Nov 4th launch date.

The AT&T/RIM PR folks will go nuts when the remember that 11/4 is ELECTION DAY here in the States. They will get zero press on this. Every reporter on the planet will be covering the elections!

Unless they can get Obama to endorse the Bold during his victory speech, no one will even know that it’s been released.

I heard from an employee at an AT&T store that AT&T wanted to make sure the next round of 3G cell tower upgrades were done before releasing the BOLD, as they know it – like the iphone in June – will create another surge in 3G usage, and they want to reduce complaints if possible… Who knows if that is true? Anyone?

Finally… Well after the long wait, I have to say I’m not too happy about the price. I thought at&t would try to at least match this device with the iPhone 3G at $199.99 but I guess not.

Bad release day, bad price point, lots more competition since Rim last introduced a big product – and their own Storm will be stealing some of their thunder shortly (no pun intended, really). Add in a genuine recession and I think sales will be lackluster at best.

Not a good time to buy RIMM, IMHO.

Nov. 4 eh? Way to control the news cycle RIM. There shouldn’t be anything going on that day that’s going to overshadow that release.

You guy’s make the elections sound like such a big deal. Weird since in your last election only 43.6% of the population showed up to vote; what a joke.

November 4th looks to be a good date. Based on what was shown in another story, looks like we’ll get both the Fuze and Bold on the same day. Nice!

This is great! I can take the time off to go vote and stop to get the Bold on my way. Maybe once I’m activated I should just take the rest of the day off and work mobile. Love it.

Black pres or Bold? Too funny…

How about both on the same day?

Yes Rim is a canadian company and yes 43% of people voted last time around. That being said, the release is in the USA, so that is the relevant marketplace, Remember the Nova car release in Mexico? Nova = No go in Spanish.

Just like politics good marketing is local.

Also whether 30% or 80% of people vote, the isuue is that, the press coverage will be GUARANTEED to be zero as all the press will be focused on the election. Duh.
Sounds like someone has a chip on their shoulder about Canadians getting the shaft vs Americans.

Seriously this is symbolic of how much the US telcom system sucks. First ATT holds this phone hostage for like 6 months while they push Iphones on the market. Then they realize Verizon is going to release an “updated” version in the since that the Storm is a touch screen. So they rush it to market. Seriously if there were software problems to the point the phone could not be released then updated 2 weeks ago they weren’t fixed that quickly. Verizon has the habit of disabling phones so they can milk money from people so you don’t know what to expect from the storm. Tmobile is handicapped as a foreign owned company so they get the the short end of the stick. And Sprint is inept. So the American consumer is fucked. If they UAE offers this phones data and everything for $60/mon, and Chile had it months ago and Japan and Korea have phones with TVs and everything else in them who is really behind?

Sorry if this seems like a stupid question…but why do people line up for hours at the store to get the phone if you can just order it online through AT&T(I think, right)? Is it just to have it in hand and not wait for shipping? Is there any other differences?

It will be interesting to see what stock levels are available on release day.

They have had plenty of time to build them while the software being fixed. There should be a lot of stock on day-1.
