LG Lotus, Samsung Rant and Highnote now available at Sprint

Ready for your buying pleasure from Sprint are two new QWERTY texting phones and one dual-sliding music phone. The LG Lotus and the Samsung Rant give texting fanatics two new choices for finger flying messaging. The LG Lotus is the more compelling of the two with a square design that looks like a someone took a steamroller to a flip phone. The flattened, wide phone enables LG to fit a full QWERTY keyboard and widescreen display in a flip form factor. Impressive if not a bit ugly looking, the LG Lotus is available in purple and black for $149 with a contract. Rounding out their QWERTY-enabled offering is the Samsung Rant. The Rant is a standard candy bar QWERTY slider with EV-DO, SprintTV and GPS that comes in at a low $49.99 contract price. Bright Red and Black are your choice of colors. If you prefer music to messaging then the Samsung Highnote may be your cup of tea. The Highnote features a dual slide that reveals stereo speakers when the LCD is slid down and a standard keypad when the LCD is slid up. It also has a rotating 5-way navigation ring for your music playing pleasure. The Highnote comes in Red and Blue and will set you back a reasonable $99 with contract. Nice to see Sprint getting some interesting new phones this season – what do you guys think?

    Neat… I guess.

Sure would be nice if Sprint announced a next-gen Blackberry. May be too much for a Goat to hope for.

Not gonna lie, for some strange reason that LG Lotus caught my eye. I’m 99.9% sure I’d never buy it (Actually 100% b/c Sprint has ZERO coverage where I live), but it looks really appealing. I think I’d at least want to play with it. :)

The Lotus is definitely awkward looking. Not necessarily ugly, but awkward. I guess you can’t really do much with the proportions when you’re trying to make a QWERTY flip phone, but it looks really boring on the inside.

The Rant is pretty cool, although I think it looks way too similar to the Rumor.

The Highnote is pretty cool, although it’s pretty sad that it’s the first dual-slider phone released by an American carrier, considering Nokia pioneered it.

The Lotus looks like a cartoon kid’s phone. It’s like the Fisher Price BlackBerry. What is LG smoking? Life must REALLY be good for this phone to enter production.

Ordered the Lotus last night for my wife, we went to the store to play with one, it’s a solid phone that performs nicely, and has a nice camera. Probably the first LG phone on Sprint that I’ve seen that isn’t a complete pile of garbage right out of the gate.

If I didn’t have my heart set on the Pro, I’d have ordered the black Lotus.

having been a sprint customer for almost 9 years, i am at my wits end with them. a friend of mine works at their corporate office and he even says they suck! anyway, i was reading the comments above and to address one of them, i was listening to the morning talk show here last year and he said the best way to get out of a sprint contract is to basically call everyday and complain about anything. they will cancel your account just to not deal with you anymore. as for the insurance, you have to SPECIFY that you want the upgraded maintenance insurance or they won’t do anything if you break your phone. i learned that the hard way! i went to a retail store yesterday and looked at these new phones (still think verizon has them beat in this arena) and the best one of the three is the rat..i mean rant. the price is reasonable than the other two and it has a qwerty. the lg phone looks ridiculous and if you are a man with jumbo thumbs, texting on it is hopeless and the highnote didn’t get good reviews on the sound quality. i played with the rant and the keyboard is nice…slanted and not straight like the rumor. i was tempted to get the instinct but why spend that much money when i’m leaving sprint as soon as my contract it up. their customer service has gone straight to hell! i used to get a nice free phone after the 24 months and using the $150 credit. now the phones are so high and crappy that it doesn’t make sense to stick around!
what is this pro everyone keeps talking about on here?

never mind i found it…the touch pro. yeah it was due out 4Q2008. probably trying to work out the kinks so that people won’t complain like they did with the instinct that has had 2-3 upgrades since it came out.

Don’t hate on Sprint-the Moto Q is a horrible handset on any carrier. Two of my friends threatened to kill VZ over it too. It is an awful device.

Tonya-ask for a manager or try another store. Seriously, anyone who knows a Sprint employee will tell you that they have changed their customer service stuff completely in the last eight months cause it WAS BAD! As someone who’s had both Sprint and VZ at the same time, it seems in my case that Sprint is improving and VZ is starting to disappoint-though I understand your frustration. Try another store-someone saved me from really getting mad and leaving with a credit and actually fixing my issue-what a concept.

Employee of an independently owned Sprint store here….don’t get me started. Who do they screw worse, us or their customers? OK, the cusomers but we’re a close second, with the sweetheart deals they give Best Buy and Radio Shack which make us look like morons (”Why should I deal with a rebate? Best Buy has it for the net price, no rebate”). Boo hoo, right? We barely survive by offering an antiquated concept called “service” – we take very good care of anyone who walks in the door, like neighbors.

HTC TOUCH PRO – Tried it for two days (given to me FREE after HTC training), went back to my beloved Blackberry Peal with swiftness. Touch interface is difficult. My son sez “You just gotta practice” – anybody have to practice to use an iPhone? I didn’t think so.

MOTOROLA Q9c – thankfully no longer being marketed to the victims, I mean customers. 100% crash, pure garbage. The only device running Windows Mobile that doesn’t come back to the store is the SAMSUNG ACE, but I still would never get stuck in a Windows Mobile unit, because…….it’s WINDOWS! The same bloated crash-prone experience can now be in your pocket, yeehaa!

SAMSUNG RANT looks like a LG RUMOR clone: It IS a LG Rumor clone. The Rumor is the most popular form factor for a text-friendly phone we’ve ever seen, if I was running Samsung/Sanyo/Motorola etc I’d copy it too. Gosh it was fun when they introduced the Rumor and then the Instinct – (”No, we can’t get any. They forgot to order enough from the manufacturer. Maybe in a month”) over and over and over…

Heyy just throwin this out there the rant seems like a good phone up front but when u get it nothing but trouble comes out of it. I had this phone 3 times the first time the camera broke, the second time it froze and never turned back on and the same thing happened the third time in my opion this is the worst out of the three new phones that are in a reasonable price range you can buy, after dealing with sprint about it you wont even want a new phone, the third time it broke it was two days out of the 30 days that i had it the manager and i called sprint custmor service and they didnt really help then finally i dont know what he did but the manager asked me which phone i would like to get and i asked for the lotus and i have had this one for more then two weeks without it breaking! this is a good quality phone and also has the ability to multi-task and has some cooler features and hold wayy more texts if u ask me
