T-Mobile holiday promotion: Free Companion Flight 2008

We’re sure there are a few more handsets to come from T-Mobile this holiday season, but we just got word that the boys in pink have special promotion planned as well. Dubbed Free Companion Flight 2008, T-Mobile has a special treat in store for new and existing customers alike. Here’s how it works:

When someone activates, renews or migrates to a new 2-year service agreement between November 19th and December 24th, he or she will be eligible to receive a Free Companion Flight, ie one free round trip flight, when an additional ticket is purchased at the full fare price through a special T-Mobile website (www.FlyWithT-Mobile.com - not yet live). 112 origins and 110 destinations will be covered by the promotion and they will be spread throughout the cities detailed on the image seen above.

Of course there are some restrictions involved but nothing too crazy. Essentially everyone is eligible as long as they’re not on a business / corporate account. Postpaid, FlexPay Annual Contract, Take Control, SmartAccess and KidConnect accounts are all fair game and each account is eligible for up to five free companion flights. Sweet!

Thanks Gman!

Buying a ticket at “full fare price” in order to get a free companion ticket is ridiculous. There are easily a dozen sites online (big names and small) where you can buy flight tickets at far less than half the “full fare price” and don’t have to sign up with TMO for service to qualify. I fail to see the deal here, unless TMO is going to be offering the paid ticket NOT at “full fare”.

If this is anything like the free domestic companion fare offer through Amex Platinum (which is being discontinued next month), it’s garbage. First, with the one through Amex, it’s near impossible to find a flight, and when you do, the fare — if you are lucky — might just be a few dollars cheaper than two separate discount fares. Also, you’d think *maybe* if you were buying a full-fare ticket and getting one free, it’d be with no restrictions like a normal full-fare ticket — but you’d be wrong there too.

Travel “deals” have been ruined by a lot of garbage. That has undoubtedly caused the cynicism I see posted here. But take a look at the deal they offered last year. That’s when I finally dumped the death star, and it was pretty darn good. This one is different it looks like, but I’m thinking it will be well worth it, too. Timing for me is perfect for an upgrade (didn’t pre-order G1, but may go that route if store demo is cool), so I’ll give it a shot.

This sounds exciting and I love T-MOBILE as far as marketing and campaigns that really relate to my lifestyle. (Free flights, couch surfing commercials, etc.)

Last year I took advantage of the free flight promo during Black Friday and went to Los Angeles this summer for $60 bucks in taxes when fuel costs were high. I’d prefer the free flight over the companion ticket, but I’m sure I’ll give it a shot.

    Thanks for the heads up!

This Free Flight is a scam! I sent in my forms on time and filled them our correctly only to received an automated message telling me I did it wrong. AFter 4 days of phone calling to tmobile and TLC, the travel company, no one will put me through to a booking agent, no one has a “supervisor” to talk to and they even told me they don’t have a phone number (maybe tmobile should get TLC a phone number!) Tmobile told me (Steve, a supervisor) that Tmobile doesn’t have a company president because “they are publicly traded” - but then recalled a Robert Poston who is the president. But, I was told Mr. Poston won’t take calls from customers. Pretty soon he won’t have to, as hopefully all who read this will cancel their tmobile accounts and pass the word on that they are unethical and involved in corporate scamming - can we spell ENRON?

P.S. Don’t believe this next promotion either!

This is just a scam like their Free Flight promotion last year during Black Friday. Never did get that ticket..had to contact the BBB to finally get a check for $200 bucks for this promotion. Beware of T-mobile…they suck!

I just checked a fare on the “free” companion flight site - it was over $800. I then checked the same airline, flight and date on Orbitz and it was under $350. Which means I could buy two tickets and have $50 left over compared to the fare T-Mobile is offering. Forget it. Or at least do a comparison! My husband signed up for a similar deal last year and we found that we could get two seats on a direct flight to Seattle for less then the “free companion ticket” site was offering for changing planes.

This offer is a scam. I checked it out and when I searched for flights it wouldn’t find any available except for cities that are only one hop away. Nothing that would require a connection, which from where I live is generally the only option. Plus the prices on the flight’s I did find were more than double the price of the flight’s I could book through other sites.

Hey Bozo’s if you would have read the FAQ’s you would be a little more informed before you start bad mouthing someone/something!

    READ ON:

Will TLC honor a lower rate found online, or other published travel rates?

TLC guarantees that if a fare listed in the Zone Chart exceeds a published rate, on an available flight by 25%, the Zone Fare will be reduced to match the competition, plus 15%. (Example: If TLC’s Zone Fare Chart lists a fare of $250, and you find the same flight for $150, which is 60% more, the Zone Fare will be considered for adjustment. Upon TLC’s verification of the fare and availability, TLC will match the $150 fare plus 15%; therefore, for this example, the zone fare would be $172.50. You can then book the flight, pay $172.50 for the first fare, and get the Companion Flight for Free. The combination of two (2) flights/tickets through the T-Mobile Free Companion Flight promotion presents a savings of $127.50 or 43%. All standard taxes and fees will apply. If you would like to submit a price match for consideration please fax the find to 617-671-0500 or email it to pricematch@tlcwm.com.

Not sure if this is a scam or not, but it’s starting to feel like one.

I registered a few days ago, and received an e-mail telling me that I was registered. Today, I try to check my status, and it tells me that my phone number is not a valid one.

    What?!

So I called the Customer Service number, and the rep tells me that, they’ve been having glitches and will “reset” my account, however, in a few days, I will need to re-register again. What is this?!

Anytime you have to go through a marketing agency, be prepared to invest in Rogaine because you’ll be pulling out your hair. One of the posts said that TLC will match the price but good luck getting someone to work with. The T-Mobile rep I know personally who will remain nameless–said he’s heard lots of complaints already so just passing that on. I love T-Mobile and have it but they could do better. These promotions are never simple. How but just handing us a travel voucher at point of purchase to exchange directly with an airlines.

I researched dates online only a week ago and found round trip flights for 171 per person including tax and fees on a different travel site. I researched the same dates on the tmobile flight website and the price of one round trip ticket at the cheapest rate was 540 plus tax and fees!!!!! I could buy almost 4 tickets on the other site for the same price? I also received a free flight for the promotion they did in 2007 and they ruined my trip by declining my request b/c I only included one destination city b/c lets be honest I can’t just fly anywhere by myself I needed a planed trip to a certin destination. Anyways they managed to contact me and tell me I needed to re submit my request on the day that made it 29 days from the dates of travel I selected so It was no longer an acceptable time frame. They really ripped me off twice, TRUST ME WHEN I SAY: THIS IS A SCAM. I am however a proud owner of the G1 which actually glitches a lot though… :-(

I am so glad I found this site..and conversation. I have a free flight from the 2007 promotion. However, the options of the cities I can fly to are very limited for me. I am married, and would prefer to fly with my spouse.

Curious–does anyone know if I can give my “booking request form” away or trade it for something (ex: craigslist).

I have contemplated adding a second line with the newer free flight promotion–but worry I will be stuck with a scam. Considering, all the fine print with the 2007 promotion.

If anyone has any ideas, let me know. The 2007 ends in March and you have to book 30 days in advance. I just would hate to waste it if I could give it to someone else.

T-Mobile’s “free companion ticket” didn’t pass the “smell test” when they didn’t allow one to use “sky miles” for the companion flight. In addition, the fares that they provide are MORE than double what one would find using the many easily available flight sites. We tried to contact them concerning this issue and we got the usual customer no-service reply stating “there is nothing we can do about this”. Shame on this (still good) company for telling its customers (or potential customers)that it is giving away something that is, in reality, just another rip-off.

BTW, I am a 10 year plus subscriber to T-mobile.

I just looked and to go from Denver to Atlanta in April they want $754, the exact same flight on United’s website (I even verified the flight numbers) is $379. The only thing that would remotely make sense is that the $754 is for two flights and you don’t see the discount until the very last moment, but I went pretty far through the process and my “Final Price” remained $754, so that seems doubtful. I’m glad I didn’t do anything to get this, I got it for being in their top 5% longtime customers, what a scam…
