Apple refreshing iMacs next month?
Apple’s notebook event has come and gone and while people are pretty polarized as far as Apple’s revamped MacBooks and MacBook Pros are concerned, it’s time to move on. So what’s next? It’s clearly time for a fresh crop of rumors to start making their way across the net. AI dug back to its hardware roadmap from a few months ago and decided to revisit the last stop on the tour, a refresh of Apple’s iMac line. Among the speculation is a likely processor upgrade, the addition of a DisplayPort (as El Jobso said, it will be the new Apple standard) and a possible NVIDIA graphics card upgrade. While an iMac refresh is certainly possible if not likely, we doubt Apple will make a terribly big deal out of it. The notebook event covered the new Cinema Display which isn’t due until next month so if the Cupertino crew wanted to make a big deal out of the new iMacs, they likely would have hosted a “computer event” as opposed to a “notebook event”. We shall see…

How about a MacMini with a Mag-Safe power supply and DisplayPort for video?
Apple could choose not to supply an AC adapter with the MacMini — that would cost-reduce the MacMini BOM and encourage buyers to purchase Apple displays…
Maybe even a mounting kit to bolt the MacMini onto the back of the Cinema Display?
Jobs also said Apple was moving to LED back lighting. Only problem is, LED backlit LCD monitors are expensive. $899 for a 24″ monitor is a little high. Given those prices, it may push the already high price of the iMacs. Unless Apple is going to give up on it’s 90% profit margin.
I don’t think Apple will do anything until Macworld 2009.
they can’t gouge anymore cuas nobodys willing to spend the money let alon has it lol
i just went and got my macbook pro last night. now ill have to replace my home computer as well. =]
I’m waiting for the 17″. Which is actually good because with the Indexes dropping and spiking by more than 500 points, I’ve been playing with the $5k I saved up for a new MBP. My goal is to make enough to buy the laptop with everything and then have enough left over to take my wife to the Bahamas for 10 days. I found some great all inclusive packages. The only problem is that airfare sucks right now. However, I’ve been hearing that because of the “crisis” that they might drop flight prices for the Holiday season to get at least some patronage.
If Apple updates their iMac line next month, they will have nothing to talk about at their ‘09 MacWorld. I doubt this will happen and let’s hope not, considering I just bought an iMac in July.
@JR:
I disagree. If they “clear the deck” by announcing iMac updates now then it will signal they have something really big for Macworld.
Maybe a tivo like upgrade to appleTV or a tablet, etc.
What about the MacMini?? I have been holding off to buy one since July. I want a Mac but I am not ready to get rid of my Windows PC. I need a transtion Mac and maybe later move completely to a Mac… but not until I know the ins and outs of Mac OS.
Thanks!
@Miguel: Honestly, the rumor mill has been silent about the mini for a while. It’s not dead yet, but nothing has been reported either.
You may see a Pre-Holiday refresh with some newer hardware, you may not. Obviously though, no later than MacWorld 2009 which is early January.
I think Apple will re-fresh their iMac line up before Christmas. Nothing for the Mini.
I think MacWorld 2009 will be special for the Mac Mini. Could it be turned into a Apple Tv Pro? I could maybe see a non stylus tablet net book.
Blu-Ray will not be until the Developers conference, or October 2009. Apple would like to see Blu-ray sales over Christmas as well as entire 2008.
