I’ve always maintained that I would buy a touchscreen BlackBerry if there ever was one. And now there is, but it’s going to Verizon — a company that I swore I would never do business with even if hell froze over. Here comes the 9000 (which is STILL not out yet) and it’s going to AT&T, a company that is worlds better than Verizon but still far worse than T-Mobile. T-Mobile, on the other hand, has the first Android handset. Except that given the HTC G1 (enough said) and the review on BGR, I’m willing to wait until the Version 2.0 handsets come out.
I obviously need to upgrade my BlackBerry 8700g, and I’ve been waiting for the 9000 now for (what seems to be) a long time. For all the good a mobile phone will (or won’t) do me here in Iraq, I don’t have to make a decision until I get back stateside. Fortunately …
I like the idea of the BlackBerry 9000’s physical keyboard to type messages but having the Storms’s touchscreen for selecting apps, pressing buttons, etc. (I love my iPod Touch for this reason: I can select things very easily. But having used it for two months texting and E-Mailing, it was a nightmare because the virtual keyboard couldn’t keep up with my rate of typing.)
So if they announce a BlackBerry 9000+Storm Hybrid, with a physical keyboard and a touchscreen … I wouldn’t be hard pressed to wait ANOTHER year to get a new BlackBerry. After all, there’s always the Android Version 2.0 handsets in the interim when they come out.
If only RIM would make the BlackBerry 10,000 have a physical keyboard, a touch screen, *and* run Android, I would be in heaven … (And, of course, make the blasted camera OPTIONAL! Some of us have jobs where we can’t have cameras!)
Now this is the form-factor that I want… I’m loving the Bold so far, but it teases me to touch it’s lovely screen. This will work out perfectly!
And it should launch just about when I’m ready to upgrade in 2 years…
Gotta say, I’m not that impressed. I bought the Curve, liked it but hated how slow and small it was. Then upgraded to the Bold, hated the initial bugs (now corrected with upgrade .162), but loved the bigger device and all the cool features. Touchscreen is best left for devices that have a full screen and a slide-out keyboard.
Grow up? Hah.
It has nothing to do with a grainy pic, even if its a bad photoshop hack. It has to do with being a greasy little bitch and trying to remove the original bgr watermark and replacing it with blackberrynews logo. Then, anyone who sees it on bbnews will use that pic and bbnews will be acted as “the originator”.
What the fuck? Are you and Douglas over at BBCool working together to figure out how to steal traffic from other sites by these types of car salesmen and bogus story posting tactics?
with that 1XEV @ the top right hand corner loks like its bound for cdma market sprint alltel or vzw…. unless att going to get it to roam onto vzw’s 3g network until it’s own 3g network gets larger?
@ Outsider–Oh, big boys can use the F word on the internet!
The image was removed immediately, get over it. And get over yourself.
@ Others: BGR is a great site, I know it fully. There was no intention to deceive anyone by stealing an image, just a screw-up with a (still) screwed up image. BGR was given full credit for breaking the story. BGR just didn’t know the name of the device, and we posted that at BlackBerryNews.com to complete the story.
Why don’t you morons take your argument somewhere else and let the rest of us disucss this photoshopped image of this supposedly HSPA enabled BlackBerry that for some reason shows a 1xEV symbol at the top.
Honestly, this device doesn’t grab my attention at all. Don’t want it now and I won’t want it when it comes out (if it comes out).
I’ve always liked blackberry in general, just wasn’t a fan of the keyboards. Hints why I am soooo excited for the Storm. I get the BlackBerry w/o the keyboard I dislike so much.
Can’t wait till next month to go to the “First look, first touch” event!!!
This definitely makes me want to wait… but I was going to be doing that anyway, since my contract with my Curve on TMo has me locked in until next October. I do like the hope of multiple Blackberries, Android phones, possibly WinMo 7 phones, and the iPhone on multiple carriers to give me a very interesting choice once my contract expires
The upcoming devices sounds great. A Palm-like touch/keyboard Blackberry is ideal. I’ll still get the Storm when it comes out.
In RIM time a May 2009 announcement means a holiday 2009 or later launch. Might as well go with the Storm for 1.5 years and pick up whatever is next 6 months after it comes out & had all of its important patches.
hehe I have a bold sitting right next to me on my desk here in Paris
I feel rather conflicted here.

Waiting patiently until 2009 … *sigh*
2 years… Good so I can get a new phone now, then in 2 years I can upgrade to the one you speak of.
Oh grow up, Zach. You aren’t proud of that low-res faked image?
Now this is the form-factor that I want… I’m loving the Bold so far, but it teases me to touch it’s lovely screen. This will work out perfectly!

Not a big fan of touchscreen with keyboards. One or the other not both.
Waiting for the storm to launch!

Storm storm storm!
is a little 4.5 love too mach to ask for?

hey everyone
with that 1XEV @ the top right hand corner loks like its bound for cdma market sprint alltel or vzw…. unless att going to get it to roam onto vzw’s 3g network until it’s own 3g network gets larger?
Why buy any new device? Wait until 2028 and you’ll have something way better than any of these.
info is a little off.
its a bold with a touch screen.
yeah well I will say this, the bold party last night was a joke, handing out IOU for a bold, like wtf is that??
Looking at this photo hurts my eyes.
Sharpen that image up, shrink it down or remove it. For reals.
Ok spelling lesson #1. It is “we’ve” not we’re just got word!! NOT to mention inncorrect grammer!!

Hah…Removed immediately? Riiight. It was removed after you were caught and had to go photoshop up a new one.
Just a screw-up? Sure man. How do you “just a screw up” try and remove an original logo and then put yours on top of it.
A screwup is accidently hitting the #2 when hittin it doggy-style, not something that is intentionally done.
And yeah, the F-Bomb usually comes flying out when dealing with thieves and cheats.

Why do people get so pumped up over touchscreens? Am i the only one that find them impossible to use?>
Lol@dand’s mcdonalds comment. Lmfao!
