MetroPCS to launch Screen-it, a wireless caller naming service

metroPCS

MetroPCS announced on Thursday that it will be the first carrier in the US to offer Screen-it, a wireless caller naming service. Screen-it basically brings mobile callerID up to land-based standards – it allows you to see the name associated with an incoming phone call, even if that name is not in your address book. The new service will be powered by TARGUSinfo, the company that already provides callerID service for 75% of U.S cable, telephone and VoIP companies. The Screen-it service will be available starting October 2008 and will be included with select wireless packages or as an enhanced option available to add a la carte on other packages. No pricing details for the a la carte option were released.

    ditto on the above.

Plus, Rogers has a web based application, Call Manager, which can filter calls before ever ringing your mobile.

    This is “old” technology.

Actually, ive had metro for about 5 years now & the review SPECIFICLY said its new among US mobile companies. no one said anything about canada. and as for the new phones, the motorola hint will be released february 13 in the SF bay area as far as i know and will be replacing the motoROKR Z6M, the touch screen(S) being released are the samsung r810 AND huawei C7500. i’m guessing they’d be released around late march or april. All 3 phones are confirmed in the Sf bay area. The samsung phone is reported to not have full HTML browser (no suprise from a metropcs samsung) and has seen resembling other phones such as Verizons Omnia and Alltels Delve . As for Huawei, no ones seem to have a lick of experience with these models that i know of so lets just see how metro takes this one. and i’m no phone expert, i’ve just had ALOT of experence with CDMA phones, read hundreds of reviews And heard people talk about their phones.
