Confirmed: Rogers Wireless will not carry the BlackBerry Storm

Okay, time to put the final nail in the coffin of a stupid rumor that we reported on yesterday, one that some took a little too seriously. When we reported the rumor of the BlackBerry Storm heading to Rogers for Christmas we were confident that it was nothing more than the word of a few uneducated customer service reps. However, as a lot of major blogs picked up the story we felt it needed to be addressed and put down. Turns out we were right in doing so. An email was sent to us today by Elizabeth Hamilton, spokesperson for Rogers Wireless confirmed that the Storm is not heading to Rogers.
Saw your post and you’re right, the customer service representative made a mistake. As you know, I won’t comment in advance on what our holiday lineup has in store, but I can confirm it does not include the BlackBerry Storm.
There you have it, folks. The Storm will not be coming to Rogers this year. End of story.

Correct. They are not getting the “Storm” they are getting something better……

Thunder is the RIM internal name for the Storm device. And Rogers will be getting/has gotten the 9000, 8900, and 8220

I suggest it makes more sense to refrain from reporting something unless there is credible evidence to believe it is true.

I wish AT&T would be as forthcoming with the Bold and just tell us it won’t be coming this year.

if u want a bold why not just important it from rogers. unless u want the subsidized version

i also second the idea that what she told you was true, but only technically. the Storm 9530is the CDMA world phone for the US. The GSM Only version, the Thunder (yes we know it is also the codename for both the 9500/9530)is the model that should be coming to Rogers. so while the rumor you had up may be “false” dont be surprised to see the 9500 variety on rogers. if they’re in on the action of the bold and pearl flip, what makes you think they’ll skip out on the 9500??

If you want to be technical and break down what she said, she said it wouldn’t be apart of their holiday lineup. Leaving anything after Jan 1st open for discussion…

Poor Doug. Must remind him of when he was in school and noone picked him to be on their team, then as he was walking away, someone pounded him in the nuts with the dodge ball. =-(

Um toasty, where ya been? The 9500 Vodafone is launching all over the world IS called “Storm”. Rogers has said “no advanced devices without 3G” and Storm’s 3G radios won’t work in North America.

And scene. Mike was right all along.

not surprising people. Do you think if the phone was planned to launch Rogers would sit back and let Bell and Telus announce it without making any noise of their own?? Rogers isnt getting this phone for a good while

Last sentence ended … this year.
That means anything is possible after x-mas.
RCI got the Bold and the Evil Empire (TELUS)and Bell too, will have the Storm for under the x-mas tree.
@BGR
Any word on how well the Bold sells versus the IPHONE???

From what I’ve seen at the stores I’ve got contact with the bold and the iPhone seem to be doing about the same. Some stores sell more of one than another but all in all it’s about the same.
My question about the 9500 is are any other companies anround the world picking it up before dec 31? I hadn’t heard of a release date on it from anyone, and considering we got the bold before AT&T I can’t see us getting the thunder before them.

rogers does not carry the 8900

@Joe
They will but they’re in no rush.

The storm wont be coming to rogers, because apple does not want another fully touch screen phone competing with it when its provided by the same cellular service provider. Also for those of you who claim rogers doesnt carry the 8900, think again its been there since last week.
