RIM brags to employees about celeb BlackBerry users
Throughout the ages, mothers have always lectured their kids about the virtues of modesty, but it looks like some employees working at RIM never got that little nugget of advice. In a PowerPoint presentation courtesy of a RIM ninja, RIM shamefully proudly displays images of Lindsay Lohan, Michael Phelps, Cameron Diaz, John Mayer, Brad & Angelina, and Jessica Alba. But it gets even more lame. In a presentation note the following is written:
“In Australia, we have celebrities such as Jennifer Hawkins and Jamie Jury using BB
Micheal Phelps got a message on his BB from the president after winning 8 gold medals at recent olympics!!!!” [sic]
Look, all companies are proud when celebrities use and endorse their products because it means that they 1) have a degree of “cool” to them (whatevz, but it’s true), and 2) there are legions of obsessive fans out there who buy whatever their favorite starlets have. But the fact that there are people at RIM who get such a hard-on from celebrities that they start using paparazzi photos, misspelling names like Michael, and have to include not one but three exclamation marks is just absurd.

I wonder how many celebs use iPhone. Not that the functions of bb compare to iPhone, but still. My company gives a BB for paging out and waking me up and I wake up people in the middle of the night, who would wake all these celebs lol.They don’t know the true use of BB. BB needs to brag about many enterprises using them.!! What if huge enterprises are offended by this lol. Or they need to start investing in large enterprises to save the economy so that they can sell more of BB lol.

Just a reason NOT to have one….I can’t figure out why people have to “keep up with the Jones’s”…gotta have the same thing other people use,do, live, etc….
If a blackberry is what you need, then so be it, but to have one just because a celeb has one, is just SAD.

I never understood what the fascination was with celebrities and what product they use, who they’re voting for, or what cause they support. Most of these people are complete douches, far removed from reality. It almost makes me want to do just the opposite.

Learn to count, I see four exclamatory marks. Also, in some countries/languages, Michael is spelled Micheal. Not sure if this is the case in Canada or for the French speaking Canadians, but still… Get a life and stop bashing RIM because you have nothing better to write about.

Since it is internal they can do this all they want. F that, if they wanted to make a commercial with all these celebrities using blackberries they can do that. Microsoft got celebrities in their commercials and so does about every big name company once in a while. They all know what it means and what it can do for their brand so if they choose to do so then so be it.

BGR is beginning to lose its way. This is just a dumb article that means nothing. What happened to the old days of just bringing great scoops? I miss the days of BG posting on blackberry forums dropping excellent knowledge without all the editorializing.

As silly as the presentation seems, RIM seems to be off point on an even stronger seller:
Celebrities of all kinds use Blackberries because they just work.
RIM designed a solid product in terms of reliability, intuitiveness, and effectiveness.

BGR, as much as I love this site certain topics boil down to “who the hell cares” and this is one of those topics. Did you guys run out of material to report on?
