Thank you for this comment – too often people just look at the basic price and forget about the technology.

I have no doubt this display will offer a fantastic PROFESSIONAL viewing environment, and I will be purchasing one for my MacPro as soon as a DVI version is available. The LED backlight combined with one of the best IPS panels in the business (see 24″ iMAC) is a winning combo. FFS, who cares about the number of USB ports it has…

I don’t understand why people are whining about the price point for new LED backlight display. From the specs, and judging from the previous Apple Cinema Displays, this new Cinema Display is most-likely an In-Plane-Switching (IPS) display, which has much better specifications for things like high-end graphics (e.g. photography and video). If you price out IPS displays, $900 for a 24″ model is pretty good. I don’t know why Apple doesn’t market it in a more targeted way. Just do A/B comparisons between that and your average TN display. Sure, TN displays are inexpensive and have low response times, but unless you are only doing game playing, you’re going to want the IPS panel for any serious photography. I will be looking to purchase one of these as soon as I can find an appropriate adapter for my DVI display board. Please do some research on different panel designs and manufacturing techniques before immediately blasting away that it is stupid or too expensive.

@Jeremiah The DisplayPort is popping up on all kinds of monitors and small laptops. The DVI and VGA connectors are designs from a bygone era of computing. Much the way HDMI has come on scene, DisplayPort will be defacto very shortly. Apple has always led the way in adoption and creation of new standards.

It’s sucks because I have a Pro already that has a standard DVI so I will have to suck it up if I want this monitor and get the adapter. Apple has traditionally catered to their machines and others find a way to connect. It would be nice (but un-Apple like) for them to have multiple ports like a Dell Display… the 30″ Dell for example has every port you can want including DisplayPort.

The cable based USB needs to be attached to your laptop (or other computer) so the iSight and audio can be picked up. Apple will likely have a $29 adapter for the DisplayPort to DVI connection. MagSafe is a nice touch if you have a MacBook.

Look for the DisplayPort on future products from all vendors. It’s better in every respect to the old DVI plug.

There are three USB 2.0 ports on the back of the monitor.

There is also one USB 2.0 connector on the cable, as stated.

Ok, if I took the time to read the Apple site instead of just the BGR posting, I would have seen *3* USB’s on the monitor.

Still…$900 for what they call an “accessory” is kind of steep.

lmao…this is the shittiest upgrade/refresh from Apple. These “upgrades/refresh” are century old based on technology years and how far the PC industry is. Once again, Apple doesn’t deliver the upgrades people were expecting.

However, their design is definitely one of the best in the industry.

Yup… $900 is overpriced. Does it really have *a* USB connector, or more than one?

I used to think the USB ports “hidden” next to the power cord on my Dell monitors were silly, but they offer the best location for wireless keyboard or mouse transmitter, or even a Bluetooth transmitter.

At least the new Apple display *looks* cool.

On their website it mentions that the LED display is only for Macbooks and MacbookPros with the DisplayPort.

This all sounds good, but “F” apple, they need a REAL Media Center… i have over 400 DVDs i would like on my iTunes sometime in the next 100 years…
