Windows Mobile hits the iPhone 3G
Remember that rumor about Steve Jobs having a heart attack that went around not too long ago? Well, it might just be true as soon as Stevo catches wind of this one. The video above shows a brief interview from MyPhone 2008 with a young Norweigan developer named Erik Kristiansen. While Kristiansen might not be the smoothest talker in Vegas, he has managed to put together quite a piece of software. As he explains in the video, he has essentially created bootcamp for the iPhone. When the phone powers on, the user must select between booting OS X and Windows Mobile. No you didn’t misread anything there, we said Windows Mobile! Woh. We’re not sure if iPhone users will exactly be clamoring get Windows Mobile fired up on their iPhones but it might actually be pretty nice to rock an iPhone with an OS that allows things like copy / paste and background processes for third-party apps. Kristiansen is aiming to release his work to the public this coming January and it will be open source. Of course you shouldn’t expect to see this one hit the app store – only jailbroken iPhones need apply. By the way, pretty harsh final question from Ms. Young, no? At least the kid responded politely. We might have commented on Jessica’s slight manliness as opposed to taking the high road as young Kristiansen did. No, seriously – she’s a maaaaaaaaan, maaaaaaaaan.

UPDATE: After watching the video a bunch of times, things aren’t linking up. Anyone else doubting the authenticity of this?
Considering we know Apple is working on copy and paste for the iPhone the lack of it is only valid until the update for that feature. The same can be said about background processes and push technology.
People keep forgetting that unlike other mobile phone companies Apple has been updating their mobile OS for hardware that is even 1+ years old and not requiring you to get a new model.
Right on David! Living w/o cut and paste is a small price to pay for stability and usability. Don’t you WM lovers see with the the recent HTC WM devices that they are trying to HIDE that junk ass WM OS with something that looks like the iPhone?

iPhone is miles ahead of WinMo mostly, but stability..I will give it to WinMo. Had both, my AT&T Tilt never had reboots and hangups like my iPhone. Yeah..

HillBill: Then you had a faulty iPhone. WM is infamous for locking up. Also, and I’m not saying that you did, but if you iPhone is jailbroken as so many are, then you can’t blame the device or the OS for that. I’ve seen people complain about problems on jailbroken devices and it drives me nuts. I’m not doubting you had a good experience with WM but the iPhone is miles ahead in the stability department.
David the iPhone has years to go before it can catch up to WinMo…the sheer amount of advantages it has over the iPhone is completely beyond copy and paste and MMS messaging. The OS itself is lightyears ahead of Apple’s 2 year old product. Let’s be realistic here. You connect it to your computer and literally drag and drop files onto the phone and be on your way. The iPhone is irrelevant in terms of getting anything on it if itunes is not in the picture. Anything one can put on their iPhone has to go through iTunes. You cannot connect your iPhone to your computer and use it’s internet access simply by connecting through USB, which I do all the time with my Windows Mobile 6700 phone, which is on WinMo 6 mind you. There are numerous file extensions that you can’t view or listen to on the iPhone that is easily accessible when using Windows Mobile phone. That’s just the tip of the iceberg. Not to mention simple things like recording a damn video, there is just no comparison. I’ve had my phone for 3 years now with no issues so I don’t know what you guys are talking about. I’m not saying that it does not crash and you can’t say that about the iPhone either. You’re delusional if you think it has fast internet or doesn’t crash or drop calls more than any smartphone out there. Let’s be realistic people. And too bad Apple can’t do the same for the iPod and you have to buy a new one to get the new features, while MS pushes all the new features on the old Zunes free of charge.
The idea of having both OSs on the iPhone is pretty great. Might have been a hoax but just the idea of it is wonderful.

@hipkik: Maybe fake, but you can program buttons to open specific applications in WinMo, and to go ‘home’ (actually called ‘today’ on WinMo) you actually do open the start menu and hit ‘Today’

umm. Apple did a kick ass job with the UI on iphone. Why would anyone ruin it with WiMo

Apple screwed up the most basic application of the phone: phoning somebody up. Windows Mobile lets you just type the name (or last name, or number – doesn’t matter) of the person – four letters are usually enough. With iPhone, you have to scroll… now imagine scrolling through 50 phone numbers of guys named John… or last names that begin with Van (well, I live in Belgium – that’s an issue here
)
