BlackBerry Bold nearing release on AT&T?
If you have a BlackBerry Bold operating on AT&T, this morning you would have woke to a few new icons and service books for YellowPages.com Mobile and TeleNav AT&T Navigator. In fact, some of us have had those icons for a couple days now. Given the name of the YellowPages.com Mobile service book, we’re wondering if this is a good indicator that AT&T may very well be getting ready to finally launch the BlackBerry Bold. That or they’re just getting their ducks in a row, and you’ll have to wait until 2009 to get a Bold, which is entirely possible. You know what for a fact? If you know for a fact that it’s going to be available/released/delayedagain/whatever on Thursday, I suggest you provide some kind of proof…. This is a tough crowd.
I gotta say, it’s nice to beat the Americans with a gadget release. Were usually a few weeks or months behind you guys. I’ve had my BB Bold for about 3 weeks now and it is amazing. In my humble opinion it leaves the iphone for dead in almost every way. I’m still learning all it’s features.
I really hope you guys get it soon though, there might be a few more apps pop-up on the market when you get your fingers on this gizmo.
The heck with the bold….just give me the new OS for my 8120 BB….I will be happy with that….8120 has wifi…. I am always connected to a wifi network somewhere….

All I know is that if the Storm gets released before the Bold then forget about it. No one will pick it up. I’m not saying that people will switch for the Storm, although some will. But those who do not switch will be too mad at the simple fact that the Storm got released first that they won’t bother picking it up. The Storm just came out of nowhere it’s its about to be released before this ancient ass phone. And if AT&T is so worried about their network not being able to handle two 3G phones then why don’t they do what Verizon is doing and spend money increasing their 3G bands and getting more towers? Verizon has a lot of 3G phones with no problem so if the largest network can’t use their money wisely and expand that shit then they can’t blame no one but themselves. I still think it’s them sucking up to the iPhone that’s causing this nonsense. And the GPS is not locked on the Storm for Verizon, plus their data pricing is the same as AT&Ts.

PERHAPS BOLD SITE DOWN FOR SOME EXTRA WORK…PERHAPS THE ADDITION OF A RELEASE DATE…OTHER THAN “LATER THIS YEAR”
PROBABLY CHANGING IT FROM “LATER THIS YEAR” TO “LATER NEXT YEAR”. STORM RELEASE IS GOING TO KILL THEM. THEY NEED TO GET THIS DEVICE OUT OR FACE TONS OF JUMPERS.

This really is frustrating…. but I guess AT&T really wants to “get it right”. No sense releasing it if that will only create a Customer Service nightmare.

I have a friend working at AT&T and she is getting SO tired of me asking her.
No one wins with this debacle. I fear a lot of would-be Bold customers will now pass and just wait it out for the Storm.

We may be on to something… unload inventory prior to a new release.
We know 4.5 software is coming, so that may account for the service books, but I have a sneaking feeling if we don’t see Bold by next week, we’ll at least get the 8320.
Let’s dispense with the 2009, Nov’08 and Dec’08 speculations. It’ll be here in Oct…this Oct….the one we’re experiencing right now. We’ve got more Oct dates floating around than any other. We got AT&T claiming 30%+ complete on 3g network upgrades to support iPhone & BBB. We’ve got an AT&T announced set of launch parties happening this month. ….AND my local AT&T store JUST finished their Bold training this past weekend. So…..it’s coming…this month…very soon. Most likely by Oct-27th…as previously reported.

Is that in a non-eternal October sense? Or will we be looking at 4-digit days of October 2008 for the actual release? (google “eternal september” for the reference… today is Sep 5523, 1993…)

Want to pick up a BBB when they go on sale in Dec. (and, they will). BBB will suit my needs just lovely…forget the Joneses.
Other sites suggest Rogers is doing OK with the 3G and, I suspect that because RIM is in Waterloo (and Rogers is sort of East-ish in terms of national focus) there might be some collaboration there…

No offense to anyone, but I honestly do not think that AT&T reps know anything about releases. When i was in the At&t store I asked about when the official OS 4.5 would be available for blackberry curves and was told it had already been released some time ago..although I know it has not, and was told they had no idea when the Bold would be available..so there you have it..At&t employees are also kept in the dark.
I want the Bold, but if I have to resort to a 8820, I will. Question is, will I be losing anything other that onboard memory and a bit nicer screen?
@Swede: you’ll be losing 3G, a camera, streaming video (I think…), 3.5mm headphone jack, too.
The only thing on that list that really bugs me is the loss of a camera, because while at times I can justify not having one, most of the time it’s handy for those “OMG! NEED PIC!” moments, like a pet doing something goofy, documenting accident damage (and license plates of those involved), and other random events for which carrying even a p/s camera can be a pain.
