Confirmed: Apple notebook event Tuesday October 14
Well, it looks like those who have been skeptical with regards to a new breed of Apple laptops coming next week are now silenced. Whether or not the flurry of leaked Brick images are real, Apple has indeed sent out a round of press invites to a special Town Hall event that will be held in San Francisco on Tuesday, October 14. “The spotlight turns to notebooks,” as stated in the invitation, pretty much eliminates any mystery as to the subject of next Tuesday’s event and solidifies the rumor that a refresh is coming. Will the new MacBook cases be constructed of aluminum like the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air? Will a new fourth Apple notebook model be introduced? Will we really see an entry price point of $800? Will Jobs have gained some weight back? Will the phrase “my Mac is bricked” no longer have a negative connotation? We shall see…

If it’s a touchscreen laptop, don’t other manufacturers do this on windows machines?

As an aside, I just heard that RIM has scheduled an event for Wed Oct 15 in which they will announce the Blackberry Gustav, a new RIM laptop in which the screen is one giant button. Though it won’t ship with a decent sized hard drive it will include a 128GB thumb drive.The built-in software includes the “iWishIWasDead” group of apps (no relation to Apple’s iLife). Unfortunately, the included “Trek” browser still sucks, and it’s really only good for calls and the chain-yanking your boss calls “e-mail.” Cheers.

It would be cool for apple to introduce, a Macbook Tablet like machine into their line up.
Yeah you can hack a Windows base tablet in put OSX on it, or buy a 3rd party modified one but it’s not the same as if Apple had one in the line up.
Mainly it’s for people like me, who have a kinda of need for a tablet, but want to get away from Windows.
I had a Toshiba Tablet, and I loved it, until the thing wear out.
But an Apple MACTablet, or something would be amazing.

I used to be big on Linux and FreeBSD in college. After college though, Business was “Windows Only.” For a long while, I only used Windows. I ended up getting a Mac, two years ago to do some image work. I was blown away. I had used some Macs in college, but that was over ten years ago before Steve Jobs came back and I wasn’t impressed.
But now, it’s all I use. I went out and bought a Macbook Pro and have been using it ever since.
I am interested to see what they come out with. I’ve already saved up enough for a new 17″ or 18.4″ Macbook Pro.
You get a lot of pundits. But with PC’s you have the “Microsoft Tax” and to get Mac OS X you have to pay the “Apple Tax.”
This is exciting news. I hope the macbooks start at $799. I doubt it, but that would be nice. Hook it up Steve!!
